Are the interviews one-on-one with faculty or are they in groups with other students? The interview review online says that a lot of people had individual and a lot had group as well

There are 2 one-on-one interviews for about 20 minutes each.

I've been at Secondary App Complete since 9/24....how long does it take to get to Preliminary Review? It's been almost two months 🙁

Wow...that's crazy. Looks like I'll be waiting a lot longer lol

Come on FIU, lets get it together...

How does FIU determine class rank? Are pre-clinical grades used to determine rank?

Yes. All grades count. With regard to residency programs, grades on rotations matter more, but pre-clinicals count for a large part of your class rank so they clearly matter as well. We will have an AOA chapter here soon, but AOA does not matter as much as pre-meds generally assume (though it is obviously a very good thing).

Your confusion might be because we are interviewing different this year than we did in previous years. It used to be an interview with 2 faculty members at the same time, but it is now two shorter interviews with 1 faculty member at a time. Interviewees are divided into two main groups, but you always interview individually.

Accepted today just past noon via email, interviewed November 16th. 🙂

Looks like a lot of us got good news today 🙂 glad to get an in state acceptance 🙂
Congrats to everyone!
3.72/ 32

Anyone get any strange/difficult questions during the interview? I know SDN has the interview feedback but I was wondering if other people had any additional experiences to add

The 2 interviews were extremely relaxed and conversational for me. Mostly just questions about myself- hobbies and personality type stuff, my past, and why I chose medicine. Only "hard" one I got was what I think the biggest issue in healthcare is. And the most strange was "describe a time you got angry". No hard or off the wall questions for me at least.

Interviewing here tomorrow! OMG OMG OMG

Interview Invite!! My third and so excited to come visit 🙂

OOS, 3.64/33, complete...end of September sometime.

Accepted here last week as well! First MD acceptance so I'm pretty freaking excited. Stats are 3.6/32 and I interviewed a little over a month ago. I am OOS so the tuition scares me a lot, but I liked the school a lot so we'll see what happens.

Congratulations. I've been in the 'Preliminary Review Completed' since November 9. How long did it take for you to get the II from this status?

I actually never got that exact status or never saw it. I'm not sure of the exact wording but my status went from something like "secondary submitted" to "invited for interview". Its possible I had that review status for a couple days between the interview invite and the last time I checked my status. I'm not even sure when my application was complete because of that, but I got the II about a month and a half after submitting the secondary.

I checked last night and never saw that status....basically went from "secondary complete" to "interview invite" as well.

Interviewed here a while back and status page changed to "ADCOM Review Completed" but still no word from the school. Should I just assume that I've been waitlisted/rejected?

No, I had that status too and was accepted. It just means that they havent gotten around to notifying you yet--they probably release e-mails or call applicants in batches

+1 I had that status for 2 weeks before I got the acceptance email.

I interviewed at FIU this passed Friday 11/30/12. It went well and my status updated today to "Admissions Committee Scheduled". Does anyone know how long it usually takes to go from this status to "Admissions Committee Review Completed"?

I would really appreciate any input. Thank you.

My friend went from "Admissions Committee Scheduled" to "Admissions Committee Review Completed" in about two weeks. I'm sure it could vary though. Hope that helps. In the end it took about a month for her to find out whether or not she was accepted.....she got in! 🙂 Good luck and I wish you the best!

Congrats to your friend! If you don't mind me asking, do you know when she interviewed and her stats? Thanks, this was my first interview so I'm very anxious to find out whether I got in. 🙂

She interviewed on Oct. 29th and was accepted on Nov. 30th. She had 29N/3.95 at UF and tons of research/volunteer experience.

Nice, I just hope there are still spots remaining by the time the admissions committee gets to me. I heard from M1's there that many of the matriculants last year were from the alternate list and had to wait even into May to get accepted.

I just got an interview invite today OOS. Real pumped. What's the word on the street about Fiu. Also, what are the acceptance stats for oos. On Msar it shows that only 136 of 2000 ops applicants received ii"s and that 15 matriculated but how many actually got accepted. Also I know his year the class is larger 120 instead of 80 so what are my out of states acceptance odds?

Thanks

Congrats!Do you mind telling me when you submitted your secondary and when you're status changed to complete.

How is priority determined when you have the "Admissions Committee Scheduled" status because, from looking at last year's thread, there was a wide variance in when people finally moved to the "Admissions Committee Complete" status

I noticed the same thing Viola05. When did you interview and how long have you been waiting for the "Admissions Committee Complete" status?

From the looks of it, the same day as you actually

So I wanted to ask a question to the FIU students here:

Why did you personally choose FIU? I've heard a lot of concerns about clinical rotations and STEP I scheduling, so I was wondering what the positives were.

Interviewed here a while back and status page changed to "ADCOM Review Completed" but still no word from the school. Should I just assume that I've been waitlisted/rejected?

I interviewed here last month and I believe they said after the initial review you are either put in an acceptable group or rejected. They also said they meet every 2 weeks to go over the acceptable applicants as well as the ones that were newly interviewed. So it seemed like there is no actual "waitlist," there is just one big group they choose to accept people from as the weeks go by. (I could be wrong about this). So I don't think this means rejection! I just means you're waiting a little longer 🙂 I'm sure they don't accept very many people on that preliminary review date.

(Again, take this with a grain of salt, but this is how I understood the process. If anyone would like to correct me or add more insight about the post-interview acceptance/waitlist/rejection process, please do!)

How long after you were interviewed did your status change to "Admissions Committee Review Completed" and have they given you their decision already?

My status changed to the "Review Completed" status about 2 weeks after my interview and I have not heard a decision yet.

Got the acceptance call today! My first one! 🙂

I got the acceptance call today as well. Interviewed on November 19th, admissions committee review was complete about two weeks ago for those wondering.

Congrats to everyone accepted! Would you mind posting some of your stats? I'm wondering if I'm still competitive at this point in the application cycle. Was anyone that interviewed on November 30 accepted yet?

Congratulations, guys. I hope to see you all in Miami next year!

Congratulations on the acceptances!!

Let me know if you have any questions about the school that I can help answer, PM me or post here. I'll try to offer any information I can. It's important that you pick the school that is the best fit for you.

my portal says my application has been complete since 9.10 but status hasn't changed since then. Does that mean my application hasn't even been reviewed yet? I'm confused with all of these different statuses everyone is talking about

First of all, congrats on the acceptances!! 🙂

I interviewed back in November but haven't heard anything yet...since there seem to be a lot of acceptances going out for people who interviewed around the time I did, should I assume I've been waitlisted? Does anyone have insight into this situation? Stressing out big time!!

I received an interview invitation for Jan 14. I kind of freaking out right now since it is my first interview ever. Anyone please share with me your experience of doing the interview with FIU. Thanks a lot. Merry Christmas.
Also, congrats to all that get accepted.
