Just to ease some of your worries, I got an interview invite on July 29th for September 7. I was also "on hold for review" twice since my application completion in early July.

My numbers also are not high at all: 3.55 cGPA, 3.1 sGPA and 30 MCAT (8 PS 11 V 11 BS).

Don't freak out 🙂

That does give me some hope! Congratulations! 👍 Did you do anything special, like an "in the area" letter or an early LOI?

Not at all actually. I honestly think it's the narrative of my personal statement, my letters of rec from professors who are very close to me, and the things I did outside of school and after I graduated that spoke to my commitment to medicine because my undergraduate years were quite rough. At least for GW, it seems like they look for more than just numbers. Plus, applicants go on and off the "re-review" status all the time. I was on hold for two weeks, then back to complete, then on re-review again for another week before I got an invite. So sit back and live your life while all this goes down!

Thanks a lot. I'm trying to plan a trip that'll keep me in DC for 2 days just in case they want to offer me an interview Thurs. or Fri. How late should I expect to be at the interview if I'm there on a Friday? I can get a flight back home at about 6:30pm and want to see if that's do-able. DC traffic is nuts correct? (I'll be taking a cab/public transportation between the airport-hotel-campus)

II just now! I was on hold for re-review forever it seemed like haha.

There's hope fellas!

INTERVIEW INVITE!!! Ah this is my first one!!!! I submitted 7/24

No status updates - just straight from "Under Review" to an invite email.

I'M SO EXCITED I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH MYSELF!!!!!

INTERVIEW INVITE!!!! First one too!

Complete July 5, on hold for re-review since July 6. There's hope!

This was part of my invitation email:
"The interview day lasts from 9:15 a.m. - 3 p.m. The day will include informal visits with students, a tour of the Medical School and GWU Hospital, and presentations on Financial Aid and Student Opportunities. Lunch will be provided. You will receive two interviews; one with a faculty member and one with a current student. Each interview will last approximately 25 minutes. Please be aware that interviews are blind and your application has not been reviewed by your interviewers prior to the interview. We cannot provide information to you about your interviewers prior to your interview date."

I'm from Portland, but I assume the traffic is crazy. If your flight leaves at 6:30 pm, you should be fine. Good luck! 🙂

congrats everyone who got interviews recently!

YAYYYYY. hold is a status MANY people get but many people get interviews.

GW interviews up to 1000 people.

Earlier the invite, the more the adcoms favor your app? Is this true?

Yeah sourD I did. Not sure it made a difference but I'm sure it didn't hurt!

Hi Guys,

So I just caught up on all 14 pages of the thread and thank you for that "airconditioned pants" post... my grandmother was SO happy to see it hahaha really made our day

I just got an interview from Gtown yesterday and am praying for a GW invite soon so that I can schedule them both at the same time (as many of you are as well)...

I'm wondering if anyone has speculations on how often the waves of interview invites go out? Is it every week or every two weeks? I am thinking of maybe waiting till the next cycle of invites to see if I get one before sending a letter. I submitted 7/28 and was marked complete soon after...

Let me know what you guys think! thanks 🙂

I am in exactly the opposite position. I have GWU but no Georgetown. I think I'm going to send an in the area email on Monday and just be as polite as possible. I'm just worried all the slots will fill up on the day I need if I'm not careful since GWU scheduled me fairly early, and I really don't want to pay for two $300 plane tickets.

Hey,

Soooo how early did they schedule you? I just received the invite yesterday and I think Gtown is already filled until October 13th or 14th ish.... I ended up getting options mid to late october and scheduled for the second to last week of october ... i really hope your schedule works out! good luck!

However, i also mentioned in my application that I will be out of the country until mid october, so I am not sure if that's the reason they sent me those dates... I recommend asking on the Gtown thread for what the range was for others with interview invites

Hi! I'm interviewing on 9/13 and was wondering if any females would like to share a hotel room for 9/12? PM me!

Makes sense, yes. However, not the case at all schools, no.

Let's keep it specific how GWU does it since this thread is for GWU.
Does anybody know? Seems to be you have about 25% chance of getting accepted(for every applicant invited) after the interview..

I mean not necessarily bc of.rolling admissions. a very desirable applicant that gw loves who applies late gets a later interview but might have a "better chance" of acceptance

For the achievement question, what if it's something you did when you were younger? Is that okay or should you stick with college age and older...? I used to be ridiculously shy, and it was a super big deal for me to go from terrified to talk to people, to outgoing and social. It changed my life in a lot of ways. I briefly mentioned it in my PS (1-2 sentences) - would it be too repetitive to use it again even though I'll be expanding on it more?

I talked about something that happened.between ages 14-16... Mine was also.something mentioned briefly in PS

hey guys just a word on my own experience applying here last year, with >14000 applicants obviously getting an interview is the biggest hurdle, but after that nearly everyone is either accepted or put on the WL post interview. i like to think of GW as an insecure significant other, meaning that they constantly need to hear reassurance from you about how much you love them, why you think the two of you should be together, what you'll do for each other, etc in the form of letters of interest and intent. sounds silly? well it is absolutely true haha, just ask anyone on the WL this year. if you end up getting on "hold" pre-interview, same rule applies. im unfortunately still on the WL, despite spilling my heart out in letters of interest for the last 6 months.

oh yeah and I got an interview in September last year just a couple of days after submitting my secondary, I am the epitome of an AVERAGE applicant. I'm white. I truly have no idea what this school looks for but if you don't get an interview right away just keep expressing interest!

Is this appropriate? Are "letters of interest" basically letters that you send to their dean of admissions saying something like "I really like your school - please accept me?"

If so, I need to be sending these out asap! 🙄

Does anyone know how often GW cycles through the apps on hold?

just curious.. are you URM? My stats are similar to yours though I submitted my secondary last week, so I'm not expecting to hear anything back just yet.

I wrote about the first marathon I completed. Just throwing out ideas. :/

Sorry if anyone has already asked this question, but is anyone aware of whether or not GW has student hosts for interviews?

I didn't find anything about it on the FAQ or interview information materials, so I don't think so. I'm planning to stay with friends, though, so I didn't ask.

Aww man and I thought I was being unique 😉

Couldn't think of anything else and my first marathon was pretty epic, so I went with it.

Actually, there is a student host program. I emailed the admissions office and they had me email the student in charge of organizing student hosts. Just call or email the admissions office and they can hook you up!

Same here. Now they have an entire office flooded with first time marathoners.🙄

Even so, it is a huge accomplishment. I've played soccer my entire life, so I thought my conditioning was top notch but man did I get a reality check. Training for that and actually doing it... Holyyyyy writing about it was a no brainer.

Just glad I found some really unique things for the other prompt to set myself apart from you two 😉 Good luck! I'm going to need it with my MCAT :/

Respect.

George Washington really seems to be stressing more than numbers, based on the II's so far. Many of the invitees so far are not superstar stats, and my GPA is definitely sub-par. 29 is a good score in everywhere except the SDN-verse. Hold in there and good luck! :luck: :luck:

I know how you feel man! I'm really worried about my MCAT but am trying to stay optimistic and confident about the rest of my application

lets hope adcoms look beyond the numbers this cycle!

I sent an in the area email and got a reply saying it's been added to the file. Anyone have a hunch as to how long it would take to go from hold to II/Rejected? My interview at G'town isn't until mid-October, but I want to book my flight ASAP as I'm getting some pretty cheap fares online right now. Might give it another week?

I'm on the same boat... and just received an email saying the info was added to my file. I think they've gotten a TON of these in the area emails lately. I'm hoping the next round of invites will come by the end of this week or next week!

good luck!

I can't wait for this secondary. Thank you to those who made it through this process last year with GW, and good luck to all others who are applying!
I got their secondary without verification. GW is a great school. I would love to attend.
