My status changed to "correspondence has been sent" almost immediately I think.

Thanks for the response! Apparently the status is the same for IIs, though. =/

Still hanging in there somehow... Maybe this means they'll send out another round of II's this week?

I really hope that's the case. The time seems to be right for some more invitations. The past two years, they've sent an e-mail to people in early February saying "There is a very slim chance we'll give out more interviews, but let us know if you want to stay in consideration for one". There was always another round of IIs a few days before that e-mail. But I'm not holding my breath. This school gets an insane number of applications, and this definitely isn't the last rejection round.

I guess they might send more ii after TX match day on Feb 1.

It's weird...I don't want a rejection but at this point, but I'm pretty sure GWU isn't sending me an interview. I'd almost rather be on the rejection list so that I can move on, but at the same time they're still doing interviews so there's still hope. Confusing situation :scared: and not a fan 👎

PS--GWU, if you're reading this, I still want an ii please thanks

Haha I feel exactly the same way!

Rejected from here today. I've been on hold since October.

Rejected as well. Complete 10/7, and I'd been on hold since December-ish.

AXED. Complete July, On hold since August

Good luck to everyone else!

Hi DrBarbie, I knew you already pre-matched to TX school. Are you still waiting for ii from OOS school?

Only this one. My boyfriend of many years lives in DC, so I agreed to give it my best shot.

Looks like the axe is still swinging today...maybe some more of us will get news in either direction...fingers crossed for everyone!

Still hanging in there--sent an LOI/update letter last week. I actually really lik GW (I'm from Chicago). I have been on hold for re-review since late fall--I am hoping to get an interview here. GW has a lot of what I'm looking for in a school. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE GW send me an II!!

Got this from GW this afternoon:

Dear MsPlasmodesmata:

Thank you for your sincere interest in The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. At this time, our interview season is beginning to come to a close for the 2013 admissions cycle. Your file has been placed in a pool of applicants that the Committee may review for remaining interviews.

In order to remain under consideration for any remaining interviews, we request that applicants send an email to [email protected]. Please note that your interest cannot be made known or tracked via telephone.

This email must include (in the body only, no attachments):
1. Your Name
2. AAMC ID #
3. A detailed explanation of your specific interest in our MD program

In addition, you are welcome to include in the email any updated grades for current coursework and any new experiences or activities. This email must be received by the Office of Admissions no later than February 8, 2013 at 5pm EST. After this time, those who have not responded will be withdrawn from consideration.

Although this does not end what we are sure is an unpleasant waiting period for you, your desire to become a physician, your understanding of the requirements, and your perseverance are commendable. In the event that your status changes, we will contact you immediately via email.

We greatly appreciate your patience and truly wish you success in achieving your career goal.

They've sent these e-mails in previous cycles, but usually not for a couple more weeks. I sent an update/LOI about a month ago, and I have nothing new to add. Should I basically just repeat myself?

Assistant Dean of Admissions

Same... which is awkward because I sent them an update a couple weeks ago. Anyone think I should re-send the same update? Not sure how to approach this...

I got the same email. This happened to me last year as well. I was eventually rejected in May although I remember a few people getting interviews after receiving this email.

I just got this email as well. I take it this is a good sign?

just got this email too. i wonder how many people got it and how many interview dates/spots are left?

Just got that letter. Kind of annoying since they asked for our interest in the program in the secondary. So basically, GW wants another secondary for a very slim chance at getting an interview.

Well, not being rejected is a good sign. But I think this is simply an attempt to further cull the herd; a lot of applicants have been accepted somewhere they'd attend over GW, but they haven't officially withdrawn.

I got a bit too optimistic before reading it, since the subject line said "reply requested" I thought it might be an II 🙁

ETA: Good grief, there are 70 people currently reading this thread?!

71 right now... I guess that's not surprising considering how many applications they get.

Just got this email.. its been a few weeks since I sent in a letter of updates/interest... I don't really know what else to say... but will definitely send something in. Does anyone know how many people who get the email eventually get II's? Thanks!

yeah i got this email too and it's definitely meant to narrow down the applicants for them. personally i will be withdrawing rather than gushing to the admissions staff after already doing so in the secondary and two update letters

I fully agree with this. Consider me: WITHDRAWN.

I received this e-mail as well. Sent a letter of interest/update last month. I have nothing to add, would it be bad to resend the letter? would a small email be more appropriate? any input would be greatly appreciated

On last year's thread and the year before, this e-mail said there is a "very slim chance that the committee will issue more invitations"...but this year they didn't say very slim, perhaps because they're doing this reply-or-you're-automatically-rejected move earlier than usual.
The chances of getting an II are still not good, though. They're probably scheduled already through much of February, so seats are extremely limited.

I am not sure what to do. I have been accepted to a state school that is what I believe to be the PERFECT fit for me...but how do I know GW isn't if I don't interview? Or at least go all the way through this. Also I paid so much to apply...I'd at least like to finish the process. Any thoughts/words of wisdom?

Will you be OOS at GW? And is your other acceptance to an in-state school?

got that same email. i'll be withdrawing. kind of mad that after filling out and paying for their secondary they won't even have to make a decision about me. i'm not gonna write a suck-up letter just for the ego boost of an II. still, i'd prefer it if they sent out II's instead of this nonsense. i don't think many people would actually go to the interview if they weren't interested in the school.

I'm going to play the game and write the letter despite being accepted somewhere I love too. In your case I think you have a little more to gain by writing the letter (being close to your bf), so I'd definitely go for it.

Thanks for the advice! I'll go ahead and send it in and see what happens.

Gah I was all prepared to be rejected and now this! Already sent in an update but I think I will send something another something in and see...already paid the money so it can't hurt!

Just some food for thought.. that I literally just thought of... They'll know where you have been accepted to already once February rolls around...

So I'm guessing these are going to need to be golden

They do?? I had no idea lol

That's even better. If they invite me to interview me I'll be thrilled, if not I go to Texas A&M. It's a win-win.

Oh, they won't know til February? I thought schools who have your application are always notified pretty quickly when you get accepted elsewhere.
In that case, should I specify that I'd go to GW over where I've already been accepted? Or is that kind of intent letter best for after an interview?

Yea.. I need to go back and find the link (not going to happen leaving on a trip), but Blais posted the info on what happens when in a thread. The later date is when they can see everywhere you applied, etc.

I have no idea about this. Search for the Official LOI/Letter of Interest thread in the pre-allo main and see if anyone posted anything helpful about that in there. This will be the first and only one I write.
