stats please? did you send a LOI? how long were you on hold?

sorry for the questions, but I'm hoping I'll get one too, been on hold for a few months.

It was competitive stats, no LOI. hold for couple of months. good luck!! :luck:

Thank you! So you still got time. I'm not comfortable sharing my stats on here, but pretty average. My advice would be to stay persistent and patient. It's a long process. Have you spoken to the AdCom about your interests in GW?

:luck: Good luck, bud

I have not, did you send a letter? email? call? GW is one of my top choices so I'd really love the opportunity to interview there.

Congrats to all those accepted! I'm really hoping to join you in the coming months!

I'll be returning to DC to get a better feel for the area around January 11th if anyone is local or in the area and wants to grab some drinks. 🙂

For those of you who have sent update letters or letters of interest who did you address it to? Thanks!

Accepted today!!!! On my way home from a different interview!! I've been freaking out all day and I don't think it has totally sunk in. GW is my number one. This is the best day of my life.

For all of you who are losing hope for this school and others, don't give up yet. I had gotten several post-secondary rejections from schools that are not as good as GW in my opinion.

My MCAT was < 30, and my GPA was < 3.5. I had some great outside experience and a varsity sport in college. But my numbers are SO LOW compared to the average. If you do not get in next year, do a life-changing experience like AmeriCorps!

Congrats! When did you interview?

👍 That's awesome, NYYanks! Congratulations! I would give anything to be in your shoes; I can only imagine the relief and joy you must be feeling to have gotten into your #1 school!

Did you write an LOI at any point?

Congrats! It's always nice to hear stories like yours. Go out and celebrate 🙂

Dude, that is AWESOME! Congrats mi amigo!

Thanks everyone I really appreciate it. I'm just celebrating by not checking statuses everyday haha. And a little actual celebrating tonight.

I didn't write a LOI, but did send out a general update letter to a bunch of schools, including to GW after my II, but before my interview. Nowhere in my update letter did I talk about why I'd be a good fit individually for each school...I just said what I am doing now.

I interviewed only a few weeks ago on 11/20.

I really hope you guys get in here or somewhere else because 3 days ago I was still in the phase where I was thinking about applying for a job next year in case, not to mention having to retake the mcat and reapply..

Does anyone know how many ii are typical for GW? What is your percentage chance of an acceptance after an interview? Sorry if this has already been answered, but there are 30 pages on this thread (!!!!)

~1000 interviews and about 330 acceptances last year

It looks like most offers go out on Wednesdays. Is this the last offer going out before the new year?

That doesn't sound like very good odds, but I am not giving up my shot to interview here.

Definitely do not give up your spot! 33% chances post-interview is a pretty good chance considering the astronomically long shot the statistics are for receiving an interview in the first place. You've already overcome the hardest obstacle by receiving an II! Congrats! You'll enjoy the interview day here, it's very conversational and low stress. They do a great job at selling the school, and my interviewers were extremely laid back and I enjoyed speaking with both.

Did you send in a letter of interest or anything?
Congrats!!

Is the admissions committee receptive to letters of interest or will they not make an impact? My application is on hold....Any info would be appreciated!

I am under the impression that they want letters of interest, and updates and really anything significant to add to your file. With so many applicants they need something to set them apart and those that keep updating their file show continued interest.

Nice! Got an acceptance email from GWU...on the day the world ends. I guess it is a new beginning for me because it's my first MD acceptance.

Application initially on hold for re-review in late August
Interview invite 10/23
Interview 11/16
Acceptance 12/21

Hi All,

First of all, Congrats to all who have been accepted.

I have been waitlisted as of today and I interviewed on Nov 9th. Now I would like to have an idea of how many students go on waitlist on average and what is the movement like on waitlist? Is there a ranking system for people getting accepted off the waitlist? Does almost everyone get accepted off the waitlist? Those who are not accepted, are they offered admission next year?

For the current student portion of the interview, anyone know what year the GW med student is who performs this?

I had an M2

So did I. All the students at lunch were M2s too.

thanks guys.

couple more annoying interview questions, unsure if ya'll know the answers...

Is interviewing late a major disadvantage/does one still retain the same odds of ~33% acceptance, or are most spots already taken so they offer fewer acceptances per interview to people from the later interview dates?

Also, what factors go into the final decision following the interview? I know the student and faculty interviews are blind to your background/application, but are grades/mcat still in play after their assessment?

Disclaimer: I have no idea for sure about these things. These are just guesses.

Anyway, I think generally at rolling admissions schools, interviewing later tends to be a bit of a disadvantage since there are fewer spots available the later you interview. At GW, my impression is that they wait list perhaps more than other schools, which might serve to keep the acceptance rates roughly steady throughout the season. But again, really not sure.

About stats, I'd bet they do still matter after interview. I think that's the norm. Especially at a blind interview place I think it's likely they keep stats in consideration at the committee meeting.

I had an M4. I think they wait list the majority of applicants. It was stated earlier in the thread that they don't reject post interview and only invite the 1000 students they feel would be a good fit. It was also stated that they offer about 400 acceptances in total as people opt for cheaper tuition.

Good luck!

It was stated a couple pages ago that last year there were ~330 total acceptances.

And I think someone said that they do reject post-interview, but like <10%.

So, I'm extremely new to SDN, well new as in a newly registered member (because I've been reading this thread as a guest for months lol). I really enjoy reading all of your posts and they get me really excited for my interview. I am interviewing at GWU on January 11th and am super nervous. And general words of advice from anyone that interviewed? And if you were accepted, it would really great to get some words of encouragement!

Thanks and congrats to all those accepted, to GWU and any other great schools!

I interviewed in early November and was accepted a few weeks ago. My words of advice for the interview: have somewhat rehearsed answers to the standard questions about healthcare, life experiences, why you want to be a doctor, etc (I say rehearsed so you have some confidence/won't stutter or freeze) but be ready to talk about them in a conversation rather than just a question-answer standard interview.

The interviewers have not read your file and really don't know anything about you so your interview is your time to show them who you are - your parents and friends know who you and would probably agree that you'll make a great doctor so you need to paint that persona for your interviewers in 30 minutes. Similarly, the student interviewer's job is to gauge whether or not he/she thinks you will fit in with the current student body, basically, whether or not they'd be friends with you. Don't take this interview lightly because I think it can really help. Be yourself and don't let yourself seem like the total cliche premed (not a very good reputation to have).

Just a last thought - I remember myself starting out giving my rehearsed answers but halfway through I realized I was staying in a box and if I did not break out of it, I would be extremely disapointed with myself afterwards. Be conservative but don't be afraid to be 100% honest. I was asked about healthcare and the theme of my response was "I don't have the answer to that question" but I managed to carry on a conversation that exposed some of my genuine opinions which led to my interviewer expressing his personal thoughts as well. I remember thinking to myself, "you know what, I AM going to talk about this," which led me to talking about how the medical community, in my opinion, is the only force that is influential enough to change American culture in terms of self responsibility starting with personal health, i.e. smoking, unnecessary obesity. Right before we moved onto a new topic, my interviewer basically said "I didn't really expect you to have the answer anyway."

These are just the thoughts that come into mind when I recall my interview. I hope some of them are useful. Don't stress over it. The interviews are the last thing so after a long day of touring and talking to people, you'll be ready to go.

Thanks so much for that. I'll keep that in mind as I prepare. Congrats on getting in, and hopefully I have a similar fate! 🙂

Anyone know what dates they've been scheduling interviews lately? Worth sending an LOI at this point?

Congratulations.
I've been on hold since August as well. Did you send any updates/LOI before your invite.

I did not send an LOI. I was actually in the process of drafting one when I received the invitation.

Best of luck to you!

Hello everyone. I woke up today to find out I made it to the alternate list for George Washington University medical school. Is anyone else in this circumstance? Should I send a letter of intent? Cheers!
