I was accepted last cycle, but chose to defer. Hopefully I'll be seeing some of you in 2013! Feel free to ask me if you have any questions. 🙂

how come you got to defer?

I think Georgetown was one of those medical schools that gave out too many acceptances. Just a hunch.

Sorry, couldn't help myself. I'm not sure how gay-friendly the SCHOOL is, but georgetown the area is wicked open minded, you shouldn't worry about that from a living conditions standpoint.

How gay-friendly is Georgetown?

One of the students from last year's thread said that there were definitely gays who came out to their interviewers who were starting as M1s with him.

What.. Secondary invite at 142 AM?

Cept it's the 2012 one..

I am having a lot of trouble with this app already. On the personal information section there is no field to enter my first, last, and middle name. I have tried chrome, IE, and firefox. Anyone else having this issue?

Yeap I have the same issue right now. Haven't tried it on other browsers yet, but I'm guessing it'll be the same.

I received a secondary for last year's application.... um.

I think it's autogenerated bro

except that its not filled out already, and first and last name are required fields - fields meaning spaces to enter info. in any case its confusing

bro

+2 maybe we dont have to fill it out???????

I think we do. Like chemsmith said, they're required fields. And, you can't submit the secondary without filling it out. And to top it all off, the tech support system is incredibly unwieldy.

I got mine from 2012 too. I'm sure georgetown will be scrambling pretty hard today to fix this and answer questions from the 10000 premeds who are gonna email and call them.

Mine is also 2012. The first fishy part of this all was when I logged in and the secondary page was absolutely empty except for a link to 'Technical Support'.

If you click "Application" it takes you to the thing. It's confusing though because it doesn't even look like a link.

What do the mean by "what is the latest mcat you will sit for, for this application?"

They are asking if you plan to take another MCAT and want those scores considered for this application cycle. If so, they want to know the date of the exam.

Well then why do they list dates all the way back to 2009. Would I select EA waiver? What does EA waiver mean? Thanks for your help.

you're making this way too difficult. if you're going to use your scores from 2/2009, select that date.

I called Georgetown, and talked to someone I believe was their IT guy. He said you shouldn't be able to edit your first/last name. But he did say you should be able to see your name as it appears on AMCAS. I can't, so he said he'd look into the problem. He also said he had one other person who had told him of this problem. I don't think it's a big deal, but Georgetown seemed fairly helpful. Everybody who's having issues right now might want to give them a call.

I called also, just minutes ago. The IT guy guessed the problem before I even said it. They are working on it and hope it will be done Monday. He said to check again Monday afternoon.

I can't submit without it, but did I miss the whole part about payment? I didn't see a tab for that. Maybe it doesn't come up before submission.

I'm not having any problems with mine now...

are there essays for Gtown's secondary? If so, can someone please copy/paste them!

Thanks!!

1. Georgetown University School of Medicine strives to ensure that its students become respectful physicians who embrace all dimensions of diversity. Please describe how any personal characteristics or life experiences will contribute to the diversity of, and bring educational benefits to, our student body. (1000)

2. Why have you chosen to apply to Georgetown University School of Medicine, and how do you think your education at Georgetown will prepare you to become a physician for the future? * Please note: Essays should not exceed one single-spaced page at 12 point font (c. 5,000 characters).

3. Is there any further information that you would like the Committee on Admissions to be aware of when reviewing your file that you were not able to notate in another section of this or the AMCAS Application?

Katt- there's a secondary thread from last year. Click Premed forums--->School specific threads 2011-12---> Secondary thread. Look it up before you post this 20 more times...puhlease.

I don't see the problem with just posting the secondaries in the current year's thread. Seeing as people have asked, this year's essays:

Looks like AiyaTuc beat me to it by about 30 seconds. Didn't see that.

what if my essay is under 5000 characters but over a page...do you think the page limit is more important and 5000characters is more of an estimate?

keep it on one page. change the margins or shorten it if needed.

I think Georgetown was one of those medical schools that gave out too many acceptances. Just a hunch.

This is not true.

As you will see in this process, Georgetown is very careful in who they accept. The 2012 incoming class is not even full yet.

Umm so I don't have any option to really fill anything out except editing my profile. I don't even see an option to give them my money or submit the application.

I am Jewish and really am interested in Georgetown (the Jesuit stuff doesn't turn me off at all). Do you think it's okay if I bring up values of my religion in the secondary essay and connect them to the cura personalis principle, or will the admissions committee not like this?

I'm sure that would be great. Of course I am not an adcom, but they obviously do not just accept Catholics, so to find someone of a different religion who is insightful enough to find correlations between their religion and Jesuit principles is great. Personally, I think it shows you are proud of what you believe in, but see the significance of what you can learn from another religious group's principles.
