Woo! II today (well, 10/16). Secondary submitted on 7/24. Complete on 7/26. OOS, 29Q, 3.78 (AMCAS), also at GU for my Master's in Biochem & Molecular Bio.

The next available interview session I can register for is January 22. Oo; Is that correct?

I got a II on the 16th as well and the earliest free date for me is January 28th. Not when I was hoping for, but it's better than no interview at all! I'm going to call admissions soon just to double check.

That does seem right. Grown seems to have later interview dates for the interview invitations. Mine was over 2 months away from my ii

i sent an email...and they said my application is still under review and i interviewed on the 9/6...just to give you guys a time frame

Sounds about right. It got an II mid-August and the dates I had were for the end of October/early November

Damn, I wonder why it's taking so long. I interviewed on 9/18 and they said we'd have a decision by the end of October.

Interviewed on 10/15 and was told I would hear back mid-december, for anyone who wanted more info on expected time frames.

Interviewed 10/5 and they said we could expect decisions before Thanksgiving. Also, their admissions committee meets on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month so I'm guessing there might not be any decisions until after 10/25

I think it's roughly a two month wait from interview to decision.

I interviewed 10/15, and remember Mrs. Sullivan told us we could expect to hear back by mid-December.

Either way, the wait is too long!

I guess I won't be hearing until the 11/5 then. Chances are I'll have jumped ship by then anyway...

Finally got rejected from this school this morning. Way to start the week. Thanks for stringing me along an extra month, Georgetown? 😕

Rejected. Probably spent way more time on this secondary than any other school's too. What a kick in the gut to start the week.

Joining the rejection party today too. Complete 8/30 3.64 32O

Probably spent more time on this secondary than any other, in fact I was just about to send a LOI... guess not. 🙁

Yep, I got the rejection notice too. My secondary essay to their school took forever to write. Oh well, at least I have a seat at another school already.

do most people think that they dont even look at applications that are submitted towards the end of august or beginning of spetember. i have a few friends who submitted applications in july with mcats 28 and 29 and they recieved invites with very little ECS and research. they were not URM while I was completed around sept 8 with 30+ MCAT and I am a bilingual URM with two years of research and one publication

I was complete late August and received an II early Sept.

You have to keep in mind the school's mission and fit as well. EG a hypothetical person with lots of research experience probably wants to continue working in research in the future. That person is not really a good fit at Georgetown (a very service-oriented school), no matter how good his stats or how much eloquence he puts into the secondary. The person with a low 30s MCAT but a longitudinal commitment to community service activities is probably a better fit.

All the above people getting rejected, keep your heads up. I am sure that in a few months you will all have acceptances from great research-centered schools.

Is anybody that was complete in early September still waiting for news? I seemed to have survived this most recent round of rejections, but it kind of feels like they've forgotten about me...

One thing that you didn't mention is Georgetown's secondary essay. They told us on our interview day that the essay is very important. In my case, I am a re-applicant to Georgetown this year; last year I was rejected pre-interview, but this year, I scored an interview. My stats/extra-curriculars are largely unchanged since the last application cycle, so the big difference for me seems to be the effort I put into the essay.

Maybe your friends wrote something that grabbed someone's attention coincidentally? Also, bear in mind...this process is somewhat random, especially at schools like Georgetown that receive >10,000 applications.

Pre-interview rejection this morning, as well. Complete 9/25, OOS, 3.55, 36M. Well, I am 0 for 2 in this application cycle so far 🙁 I wonder if my heavy interest in the potential for stem cell treatment did not "fit" with the school's Jesuit foundation.

Nope. Mrs. Sullivan made it clear on our interview day that we would be taught about "controversial" procedures and techniques through affiliated hospitals, if not directly on campus. Stem cell research was specifically mentioned.

The religious presence at Georgetown will not have a negative impact on anyone's medical training.

Rejected here today as well. Stats are 3.56/3.57/39R. Complete around 8/23

I have been rejected from the top 3 schools in terms of applications received: GWU, Georgetown, and Boston University. Oh well. Looking over my essays for those places, I don't think I wrote anything that really stood out.

Anyone have any idea when we should be hearing back with a decision? Interviewed mid-September.

Not 100% sure, but a couple posts back someone said the next ADCOM meeting is supposed to be on 10/25. You would think they would have met before then though right? But maybe after October 25th we'll hear something. I too interviewed in mid-September and am excitedly awaiting a decision!

Sorry to all the recent rejections. Just wanted to say my interview day/ experience was pretty awesome. I was impressed their emphasis to patient care wasn't just lip service to cura personalis but seems to be a genuine overarching goal of the med school. For those of you interviewing, definitely take notes during Mrs Sullivan's talk in the morning, and please pm me if you do 🙂 I didn't have a pen or paper during it but it was great advice for applying and med school in general but also why Georgetown. So really do take notes or just sit back and soak it all in. Interview was pretty laid back and DC and gtown were awesome.

For those flying in, I flew in to Reagan, took the blue line to Rosslyn, then walked over the bridge to Geoegetown. It was really easy and I actually loved the walk over the river. Georgetown looks like Hogwarts when you come in that way and the dean introduced himself as the headmaster of Hogwarts during lunch ha! However it was perfect weather outside so a cab would prob be a better option in the winter. Feel free to pm (especially if you have notes from the Sullivan talk!)

Rejected this morning--complete 8/15, 3.8/3.65/37Q
Got into UNC thus far so I'm happy enough.

Better luck to everyone still in the game!

Hi everyone, to pile on to that... also had an awesome interview day and was very very impressed by the school. i had a very relaxed interview with a really nice and friendly M4. hearing her experience really encouraged me about med school in general so i definitely enjoyed the opportunity to talk to her. it was a really great day... some key points Mrs. Sullivan mentioned that stood out to me were:

that georgetown allows you to arrange your clinical rotations in an order that interests you...so you get a chance to not schedule your specialty of choice first (while you are still green) etc....and you get your choice of sites (out of five options) so you can stay at the university hospital...or go elsewhere based on your interests

another thing was one-on-one clinical exposure ... so you get your own patients third and fourth years where you get to treat them from start to finish plus two one-month acting internships... and you get one-on-one clinical exposure during your first year! our tour guides confirmed that the "doctoring" courses first year really reaffirms and inspires you...and really reminds you of your overall goal of becoming a capable physician which i think is really important as we dive into anatomy and our basic science courses

there is also a really really strong support system in place for various faiths ... sabbath dinners, islamic prayer services etc. so that was something that was really important to me personally

i had an amazing experience overall and to everyone interviewing...you guys will really fall in love with the school. the opportunities are endless and they give you an abundance of tools for you to design your journey through med school so i was very very very impressed.

really hoping for some good news and want to wish everyone else luck as well! if you guys have specific questions feel free to pm me 🙂

and rejeeeeeeected....re-applicant with no interviews yet, got wait-listed at another school last year...submitted my primary app early july, didnt think that extra 3-4 weeks would make a difference but now im kicking my self over it everyday .. I was complete most schools mid august, some early september and some early october.... good luck to the rest of y'all

To all those with rejections, I'm sorry, and keep your head up and keep at it!

To all those who interviewed.....any news yet? I interviewed 9/5, and I'm dying over here waiting for news!

Also rejected this morning (fun way to wake up right before my first interview, thanks Georgetown). Glad to see I'm on the rejection express with some great applicants

Same here, even the bit about waking up to that email right before I headed off to a different school's interview. Ah well... I'm totally into cura personalis, but they definitely have way more applicants than spots. Anyway, good luck to those rejected today at all those other schools out there, and good luck to those still in the game for Georgetown!

Did anyone ever figure out why Georgetown has 2-3x more placements into ortho than almost any other school? Is drilling and sawing the essence of cura personalis??

Hahahah care of the whole person... DOWN TO THE BONE, baby!!

If I had to guess, I would probably say the cost plays a factor, no? Ortho being one of the better paying specialties probably is more attractive when you have 250,000 in debt?

Quote from my student host, "Georgetown is known for cranking out specialists, but I think that is just due to the type of student we attract."

The two physician-faculty I interacted with last week during interviews were ortho & derm. This confused me as well with all the emphasis on "cura personalis" and community service. I also think it has something to do with cost of attendance and the type of students attending (private, Catholic?). The latter could be due to ability to overcome the price tag. Students I talked to didn't seem to care much about the cost of the school or cost of living.
