i am turning into your signature...wish there was a way for u to slap me to my senses ... lemme go back and check all 29 status again tata

Haha, stay strong, my friend. I'm still not complete at JHU.

Interview Invite!!!! I can't even contain myself now! So excited!!!!

For perspective, do you have Secondary Submitted/Secondary Complete/Interview Invite dates and GPA/MCAT?

not much of that floating around these parts.

Yay, interview 😀

Didn't expect one on the Sunday before Labor Day... Crazy that they're still working!

Secondary submitted July 10th. Complete August 6th. Interview invites for Sept 14th. GPA > 3.8, and MCAT >33. Sorry, I wasn't having my excel file of what dates I submitted secondary for each school when I got the interview invite to post here.

Congrats to everyone just receiving an interview invite!!! I remember how great interview day was last year and how impressed I felt by the end of it! I remember being truly amazed by the amount of faculty and older students that invested so much of their time to show us around and to get to know us (by a long shot more than anywhere else I interviewed at). The brand new medical education building, the brand new hospital, the brand new this and that (the list really goes on and on)...yet the same legendary school and hospital that revolutionized medicine.

Now that we've just finished our first week of anatomy (started with thorax), I have to say that this place just keeps getting me more excited about medicine. Only a week in and I can't believe how much I've learned. The courses are so well coordinated that information just flows in (I don't know how it works exactly, but somehow I'm learning). For example, this week we started dissecting the chest cavity (heart, lungs, etc) and we 1) had the chief of cardiothoracic surgery come to talk to us about surgical techniques, brought in a patient, 2) learned about the relevant diagnostic radiology from one of the coolest radiologists who is committed to make us believe that radiology is the sun around which all other fields revolve 3) went to the sim center and learned how to use bronchoscope and how to place chest tubes for pneumothorax 4) had team based learning session where we problem solved with students and a clinician 5) had lectures on clinically relevant embryology, which really helped in learning about atrial septal defects and yeah, dissected a cadaver but was introduced to him/her with the guidance of great mentors that made sure everything was ok and taught us the importance of respecting our first patient.

Medicine will be a lot of work, regardless of where you decide to go, but there's nowhere else where learning it could be so much fun and where you will get so much support from the faculty, the colleges system (our class is divided into 4 colleges, yes, like Harry Potter), and your fellow classmates. We have a true P/F system the first two years and I truly believe this makes studying medicine enjoyable. We will still work hard, but in a very relaxed environment, we all help each other. It's hard to keep track of all the resources all my classmates are sharing and the sense of collegiality that exists is unparalleled.

I really love this place.

Congrats again to everyone that's received an invite and good luck if you're still waiting!!!

Totally okay! Thanks for the info 🙂

I'm still waiting on my July submission to get to completion, unfortunately.

+1 I suffered through your chemBE major...come on Hop ...at least complete my application!

Got an interview invite today. Anyone know how they are about rescheduling tentatively? basically, I live on West Coast and applied to a number of East Coast schools. They scheduled me for October 5th but I'll be in NY for Mount Sinai on October 16 and want to possibly group dates together. But I also might get other interviews in NYC. So I'd want to interview with Johns Hopkins around that week but don't know the exact day of the week. I have to get back to them within 24 hours. Anyone got any advice on how to approach it? Should I explain or no?

The cheapest way from Baltimore to NY is the Chinatown bus for around $20 (try to hop on one that has free wifi!) ... it takes about 4 hours without significant traffic...so I think it's very reasonable to want to group Mt. Sinai with JHU... and I hope they understand the expense of having to fly again from the west coast.

If it was me, I would try to group these two for now...and if you get more interviews in the area within the next few weeks...try to group them along with these two if possible. I hope that helps and congrats!

One other note about rescheduling-- I think it would be wise to include the exact date you want to change your interview to when you do send an email to admissions. I sent a generic email saying "this date doesn't work for me, could I reschedule?" and I received an email with another date that was "locked in." Fortunately, it works for me, but that might have been a problem.

You should probably just pick a specific date around the 16th (or pick a date range) and ask them if you can reschedule because of flight costs. I think most of them are well aware of the difficulty and expense of interviewing from any location, let alone the west coast. Just make sure your email is polite and specific. However, I definitely think you should simply try to schedule future NYC interviews around these two. GL 👍

I just sent an email requesting the Friday after the Mt Sinai. I just said I would be on the east coast that week and it would help me a lot to be able to schedule for then.

SO excited!

Has anyone received an email after confirming your date or a schedule of the interview day?

Has anyone received an email after confirming your date or a schedule of the interview day?

I sent them an email saying that I wanted to reschedule my interview date, and got a reply email with my new interview date already locked in. I assume that's the confirmation email. Haven't got the schedule of the interview day yet.

Any idea until when the interview day lasts?

I have to be somewhere the night of the day they rescheduled me for, so trying to make sure this will work out 😉

Has anyone complete in August received an MSTP interview invite?

Also, I am having a hard time coming up with a topic for the essay dealing with not being in the majority. How did y'all handle this question?

The original e-mail they sent with the invitation says it's from 11:00-5:00.

Has anyone gotten any e-mail about the "greeters program" they mention? I got my invite a few weeks ago and haven't heard anything more about it.

I started at 11 and was out by 4. They seem to let out by 5 at the latest. Optional tour of 929 last year before 11am, not sure if it's happening this year. But yeah, interview day is quick and efficient 🙂

Awesome. I'm really excited to visit, and good to hear from you again Silverwing 🙂

You should (hopefully) be hearing soon about the details. Greeters for the first week will be second years, and then I believe it will transition to mostly first year students.

I am AA, but I don't like writing essays about race all the time. It places divisions between me and other people. I would like to be judged based on my character and accomplishments and not race. I did figure out something to write about though. I chose to write about being one of few women chem majors in my classes. Thanks.

Anyone got a good recommendation on a hotel? I know they give you a list, but I'm not sure how accurate it is?

A friend at JHU recommended the Fairfield Inn. I wasn't able to book it because it was full on my interview day. In fact, a lot of the cheaper hotels on the list they gave were full and I booked everything right after I heard about the interview so I wouldn't wait long if I were you. Congrats on the interview!

Are they offering student hosts this year? I ask because I'm a first year and haven't seen any signups to be a student host yet... so if they do offer it, take advantage! If not I stayed at the Mt Vernon hotel during revisit weekend and it was a decent price and clean. Cheap taxi ride to campus.

Wondering this same exact thing as well... I have yet to receive a "complete email"

I submitted late July and had everything in. I have also not received a completion here.

There is a complete e-mail, I submitted mid-July and got the complete e-mail 2 weeks later. People have posted that in previous years it has taken awhile.

It seems like their completion speed may have slowed down a bit, but no way for us to know for sure. It's been about six weeks for me thus far. We'll just have to be patient. I trust JHU knows what they're doing and I'll respect their eventual rejection 😉

its definitely a long wait to the completion email. i submitted mine around july 23rd or so and didn't get the email til almost four weeks later.

I was just completed, so that makes my wait just under six weeks. I was a late July submission.

i did not get a complete email. But when I checked my status on line today, it says complete on 9/4. I submitted on 8/5

Yeah, I've also been wondering about this.

Also, the fact that they call for interview invites makes me jump every time my phone rings.

I submitted 7/12, but didn't get a complete email until 8/8 (almost a month later) even though all my rec letters were in when I submitted my AMCAS!

Congratulations to everyone who's received an II! Hopkins is an incredible place and our class is having a really amazing experience so far. I really encourage you to attend the greeters program if only to meet current students in a fun, relaxed setting! We'd be happy to give you advice and answer any questions you have. You will get an email the weekend before your interview, but typically the greeters is from 8-9 pm on the night before your interview (i.e. wednesday night for a thursday interview).

Looking forward to meeting all of you and good luck!

for MSTP applicants: i got the email too (where they will call us for interview or mail us the rejection. but never got a complete email even tho my app. page says submitted... is that email the completion email?

Did anyone receive an email with an attached letter inviting you to apply to JHUSOM? I don't have JHUSOM as one my choices on my AMCAS application.
