Accepted 9/25? IMPOSSIBRU!

No but really, unless firedoc was an Early Decision Application (which makes them an exception anyways), the first acceptances weren't allowed to be given out until 10/15 at any allopathic medical school.

:troll:?

Yea, I was EDP. Best decision I ever made.

Have any non-EDP applicants interviewed in EL and been accepted? (congrats firedoc!)

That'll teach you to be specific. Thanks gang! Best of luck to everyone!

how long after our interviews should we expect a decision? I interviewed on 10/26 at EL.
It appears the trend is 2-3 adcom meetings. There was one of the 30th for the 31st decision day and another on the 12th for the 13th decision day. You may here then or, more likely, after next adcom meeting (I don't remember the date of that one but your follow-up e-mail should have a link).

Does anyone have the dates of the adcom meetings? I don't believe I received a follow up email after my interview day.

I found the dates on their website after a little bit of research...

Except last year there was no MMI, so I believe they interviewed ~30 per week as opposed to >60 this year. So I wouldn't be surprised if that percentage went down...

Yes there are more applicants per interview day, but there are also half as many interview days this year. I'm guessing the number of students that are interviewed this year will be extraordinarily comparable to the number of students interviewed last year.

I remember being told at the interview that they interview 10% of applicants -- I think they get just over 6,000 and interview about 600. Then they accept about somewhere between 250-300 to fill their class of 200.

I would caution you guys not to "rest" on the "60% chance of acceptance after interview" statistic that someone threw out there. You are invited to interview based on what you look like on paper, so if your personality does not match that (which is *very* difficult to hide, no matter how good of an actor you think you may be), that 60% chance is out the window.

I will not be interviewing tomorrow, but I know some great people who are. You'll have fun!

Which campus do you like the best and why?

Not that I'm in the position to make this decision for myself (fingers crossed!), but I'm curious as to if there is an advantage to one campus over another?

The campuses are different in some ways, but the education you receive will be the same at either one. I suggest reading through the 2011-2012 MSU application thread. I know this question was addressed there multiple times. The building in GR is newer than EL, but EL is situated on the main MSU campus. I think students are pretty happy at their respective campuses... I love GR, but my EL classmates love their campus as well.

Typcially, what stats do oos people need to have some shot at msu? (Gpa and mcat subsections)

Thanks for the insight! If I get an acceptance, I think I would be happy in GR or EL! I should probably wait until I hear back from the adcom before I start thinking about these things.... wishful thinking!

Does anyone know how big MSU's waitlist is? or how many typically are accepted off of it? Thanks

Should the interviewees from 10/26 expect to possibly hear a decision tomorrow?

That's what I'm hoping for! :xf:

According to old threads and looking back in this one, accepted students usually receive phone calls the night before the release date, which would be tonight 😱

Hopefully we are both lucky enough to receive one tonight!

...eeek, seriously?? haha. what time/timeframe should we be "expecting" the call?

Well I didn't receive anything tonight so lets hope either they didn't get to the 10/26 batch of students or I was wrong on my timing.

Right after posting this I got a call from the 517 area code...just about died!

Answered it...........................student calling from Michigan State to ask me to donate. : /

Meaning, does michigan state send out statuses that say you have been rejected pre interview?

hmm, not sure.. idk if they just keep you waiting or they tell you.

I believe that date may be a misprint. If you notice all other dates are Wednesdays (they said decision days would be Wednesdays) which would mean that hopefully many of you will get calls tomorrow night (they come after 7).

For the question about OOS stats I would highly recommend you look past stats with MSU. MSU is really devoted to its mission (which I advise you look through). I was accepted OOS with 33/3.7 but I really think they focus on meeting their mission as I know people who got in with much lower stats (25/26 etc) and people rejected with much higher.

Good call. Tomorrow night it is! Hopefully.

Love MSU! Glad they showed me some love in return!

Good luck to everyone else and I hope to see you in the fall!

nice! when did you guys interview?

I interviewed 10/5. They said that if we didn't hear by 12/12 to call. They also said that individual people have to complete an applicants' file before it goes to committee (and some are just faster than others) so I'm not sure the date has much to do with it. Hope this helps. Good luck to those waiting and congrats to those with good news.

Congrats!! Lots of time now to enjoy what's left of our lives 😉

Congrats to those that were accepted tonight!! Does anyone know what happens next if I didn't hear tonight? I interviewed 10/19 ...so maybe they are just a little behind ...? Or maybe I'll hear tomorrow with a waitlist or rejection?

Your file can be reviewed at any time, so don't get upset if you don't hear back quickly. It was 6 weeks before I heard and I know someone that waited 3 months before they were called. Others only had to wait two weeks. Just try and relax! Congrats to those accepted!

I know someone who got accepted in 11 days, and wasn't an EDP applicant! Congrats everyone!

hmmm. I am thinking as an OOS'er I should give up on MSU. I have been complete since late July and haven't heard a peep.

ISer and I haven't hear since the start of August. They have very particular interests aside from stats.

Don't give up! There is still a lot of time left to hear back! I think they do interviews through April or so!

I am most def gonna do that; i'm planning on taking a trip to India early next year!

Awesome! I'm taking the plunge and moving to the south of France this summer. 'Tis the season to check off some bucket list items!

I wouldn't give up on them either. There are SEVERAL OOS M2 students that didn't interview until very late in the cycle. We're talking interviews in February and March.

BTW, I'm currently an M2 here at MSU and can answer any questions if people have them. I don't come on here often, so direct messages are probably the best way to let me know you have a question.

Good luck everyone!

I love the GR campus. GR has a bit more of a professional atmosphere in my opinion, and it's not a college town. I did my undergrad at a Big Ten Uni, so I was pretty over that atmosphere, and I just didn't have any great love for EL. A lot of people who didn't have a Big Ten experience, or aren't ready to leave the Big Ten really love the EL campus for that though. It really depends on what you're looking for for the first 2 years. Everyone seems to love where they ended up.

Hope you all don't mind that I jump on the thread a little late. Secondary was completed 10/22. Still waiting to hear about interview.

Congrats to all accepted and good luck to those still waiting.

For those who have had an interview already, I noticed on the schedule for the interview day that there is a Team-Building Exercise. What exactly is this exercise? If it is supposed to be a secret, then please do not share but I am just curious. Thanks.

In terms of interviewing at either Grand Rapids or East Lansing:

1. Does it make a difference where an applicant interviews? Eg. Do applicants interview for that particular campus only? Is one of the campuses more research oriented, and the other more primary care oriented?

2. Is there a particular reason why applicants are invited to interview at one of the sites rather than the other?

I don't have all the answers to your questions, but I'll help where I can:

1. No it does not matter. You interview for MSUCHM in general. In the spring they have selected applicants select their preferred campus and then try to match requests (obviously not everyone gets their chosen campus). Sorry, don't know much about their differences. I did my undergrad at East Lansing--big ten campus, lots of activities and resources. I did my interview in GR--newer facilities, near the medical mile.

2. Not sure!
