I interviewed Dec. 17 and have heard nothing (and I have a connection). Did anyone else interviewing on that date get accepted yet? It seems from thread that they are accepting a fairly good number of top candidates quickly and everyone else is waiting.....and I also saw that last year they "overaccepted" and had to take back some acceptances with guarantee those folks would be in next class = so that would mean there are even fewer spots for our class.....

what kind of fearmongering bs is this? people were accepted off the waitlist in July last year (just look on the last page of the 2011-2012 NYU thread). doubtful nyu overaccepted if this was the case.

Last interviews here are in two weeks. I am sure NYU finished sending IIs a while ago. Time to pack it up and move on people.

Anyone hear anything further about applying to the 3-yr MD program?

My understanding is that information will go out to accepted applicants a little later. It's a mix of "who's interested?" and those who the school thinks will be able to handle the rigor. I don't think it's 100% figured out yet but you definitely haven't missed anything.

I interviewed on that same day and did not hear anything yet.

Anyone interview late November and hear back? I only saw one acceptance from late Nov. a few pages back...

Just got an email about the 3 yr md program. Pretty crazy.

+1. So we have to commit to a particular residency? I'm not sure if I know enough to do that. 🙁

That's exactly what I was thinking but I doubt they can force you if you change your mind mid way. After all, I'm sure there are plenty of applicants for that residency spot, should you walk away from it.

Forgot to mention but I interviewed the 16th of october

if you change your mind, you go back to the traditional 4 year route.

Could you potentially do ANY residency? And get an edge to do something competitive like derm or rad onc or ortho?

How is NYU with scholarships/finaid? It is a great, GREAT school but I worry about the high cost of living and it apparently has one of the highest tuitions in the country.

I would like to check that, but you can't fill out the application till you pay the seat deposit and you can't pay the seat deposit cause an error occurs when you click the link. I think it's the same error some other ppl reported earlier in the thread.

Congrats on getting accepted!

If you have a lot of financial need, they are very generous. If you don't, then you'll probably end up with a lot of loans. Regardless, NYU offers some institutional loans that have better rates, but you'd still have to take out unsubsidized loans.

Additionally, there are a handful of full tuition merit scholarships (including room/board I believe) that they give out later on. I think there are somewhere between 5 and 10 of these students in the class of 2016.

Has anyone received an interview invite within the last week or so? (It seems to be so quiet on the II front, as compared to this week's wave of acceptances!) Congrats to those accepted!

From the FAQ website that NeuralNetwork linked:

"We are the first academic medical center in the nation to offer a three-year MD program that allows graduates to pursue a career in either primary care or the medical specialty of their choice. As such, all NYU Langone Medical Center residency programs are available. These include: Anesthesiology, Dermatology, Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedic Surgery, Otolaryngology (ENT), Pathology, Pediatrics, Plastic Surgery, Primary Care, Psychiatry, Radiation Oncology, Radiology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Surgery, Urology."

Ahh so everything is available but not necessarily guaranteed?

I mean, from the language it seems like anything is available. But the program as a whole is guaranteed to anyone who gets accepted (up to 10% of the class, or like 16 students), only if they maintain a high level of academic performance.

Does NYU have a second look weekend?
Yes, there is going to be a second look weekend this year. More details to come! Word on the street is that it'll be 3 days this year vs. the 2 last year (since some applicants interviewed post-Sandy when a lot of things were under construction)

Thanks for the info! It's impossible to find using Google lol. Can't wait to hear what's in store for it

How many people are seriously considering applying to the tertiary program? Do you think a majority of accepted applicants just haven't firmly decided upon a speciality?

I suspect a lot of the people will try to take advantage of the opportunity to automatically match into the competitive specialties (radiology, derm, surgery), even without actual experience in those fields. The application questions are quite specific and I feel like they could easily pick out the candidates that aren't serious.

I recently received an acceptance from NYU! Does anyone know if we have until May 15th to formally accept the acceptance offer on the website (and pay the deposit)? Or does the office outline a particular deadline such as ten days after receiving your award letter? I didn't see any deadline on the email or letter that I received, but I wanted to see if anyone else had a clue...Thanks!

I thought I remembered there being a 2 week deadline to pay the deposit. However, the deposit is refundable if you withdraw before May 15th.

Stick with the two week rule. That rings a bell for some reason for this acceptance. And congrats!

I'm fairly certain there is a two-week rule. After fixing the payment site, they sent me an email saying that the deadline to pay the deposit would be extended, leading me to believe that there was a deadline.

Has anyone who has been accepted recently receive any info about financial aid or other steps required after submitting the deposit?

So apparently the deadline to apply to the 3-yr program is feb 10. Kind of sucks, because it excludes people admitted between then and march 1 🙁

I spoke to admissions, who confirmed that this was the case. Here's hoping that they send out some decisions soon!!

And they didn't say if they'd be releasing more decisions between now and then?!? BAHHHH

No they didn't say, and didn't have any estimates for me either. I interviewed early Jan, though, so I'm not holding my breath. 👎thumbdown

GUYS! AH!

At the risk of completely outing myself to the NYU Office of Admissions (hey NYU folks, if by some remote chance you read SDN, I love you!) -- I just chatted with them too. And the info they gave me was somehow more optimistic?

I told them that on my interview day I was told that everyone from this class onwards could apply to the 3-year program (which is true, they didn't mention the deadline and the fact that later interviewees couldn't apply), and asked how that would be possible given that the deadline was so soon. She said sorry for the confusion, but asked me when my interview date was and I said January 2nd. Then she said "Oh, well in that case your application is with the committee right now and you should be hearing from us shortly."

I thanked her for the information profusely and said I hoped I'd be able to apply then! She seemed to be reassuring that I would at least get a chance.

Does that mean we can expect more decisions by the end of next week?!?! I THINK SO!!!

commence freak out!!! :xf::hardy::banana::scared::scared:

omg i hope this is true... my interview was 1/7- fingers crossed that mine is in that batch too!

not gonna get my hopes up TOO high though. need to wait and see if there's anything to celebrate 🙂
