LOL camaraderie, yes.

The newsletter that was sent to us said to only send them a LOI if you have something important to update them about such as good semester grades, publications, etc. It also said not to send them letter just to say how much you loved the school, etc.

So my guess is that they got several LOI updating them over menial stuff and they know we're just sending them to get off the deferred status.

+1 about taking anatomy, if I don't get off this deferred status soon I will have to withdraw, as I have a family to relocate and worry about.

Here is my LOI: "To update the admissions committee, I'm no longer just awesome, but I'm f#$%ing awesome."

I felt there was camaraderie on Monday night, for sure.

Does anyone know when the next call day is? I checked the forum, but I didn't see anything and apologize if it's already posted.

FYI: I called the admissions office and asked them what determines if a student gets off the deferred list. The woman I was talking to, Flow, mentioned that we have a interview score and a application score and that it's partially based on those numbers. I then asked her if we are on a listed based on these numbers and she said no. I asked her if we were tiered and she said no. I followed up by asking her if there was anything specific that OSU was looking for when picking an applicant and she didn't know. I then asked if I could send another letter of recommendation and she said no. My last question was if I could come in for another interview and she said no. Not sure if this is common knowledge, but I thought I should share if it was not.

Huh...well if they don't rank then how the hell do they pick who gets an acceptance from the deferred group? Just seems strange. Thanks for updating us though!

Yeah, I wasn't sure what to make of it... the lack of ranking that is. That's why I asked, "if there was anything specific that OSU was looking for when picking an applicant and she didn't know." I wanted to see if they were looking for anything else, but it wasn't hinted.

See this makes me uneasy. They don't want LOIs....they don't have a ranked waitlist....then how to they pull people off the waitlist? What is the tool they use? It seems silly to not have a ranking or SOMETHING to determine it because they said they do pull people off in April and then obviously in May when people turn down their acceptances.

I'm guessing they try to replace whoever drops with somebody demographically similar. So a ranked list wouldn't help them out much. If the deferree with the worst stats will best maintain the desired diversity of the class, then they'll get the nod.

All speculation, of course.

+1 with this.

I don't know if OSU does this specifically, but I know a lot of schools do. Also try to maintain the M:F ratio, among other things.

Ok all you Caucasian females from Ohio, there are so many better places you can go! Reach for the stars! Leave OSU behind!*

^ Well, it looks like OSU has more guys than girls to begin with so you might be in luck. At my interview day there were waaaay more guys than girls, I was really surprised at the imbalance...

+1!!!

I certainly hope so. This is my first choice! Are they receptive to LOI?

We applied to similar schools so I see you in a lot of the threads I lurk... this is like the 3rd or 4th different school that you have called your top choice lol

haha yeah unfortunately I wasn't interviewed at the others :-(

Einstein ... saw your MD apps... guess we're on the same boat sort off. Still waiting on decisions from UIC and Ohio State ... they just take their sweet time 😛

Anyone know what day school starts this fall?

Today is a call day ! I am not that optimistic tho, since they did not tweet about it, I am assuming there won't be any acceptances just like the past two call days.

So even those who interviewed and who were told their decision day would be a specific day were never contacted about acceptances? If there wasn't anyone accepted from the past two interview groups could it suggest the class is filled? I hope not.

It isn't true that the past 2 call days have had no acceptances. On the March 4th call day there were acceptances but I guess those people did not post here on SDN. I am sure they won't be giving out as many acceptances this late in the cycle but they probably will accept at least a few.

Do you think they will let a lot of people in on the May 15th date?

I wish! I know most schools begin to pull people off May 16 and onwards. People on the deferred list who aren't accepted or rejected will be put on their waitlist. I don't think OSU takes a lot of people from their waitlist, but I could be wrong...maybe a current medical student can chime in?

I'm hoping that there were so few acceptances because they wanted to ensure that there was a spot available for each and every interviewee, and now that interviews are over they can begin to offer those spots.

I have a feeling that this will be the case for most schools this cycle.

I'm also waitlisted at a couple of my instate schools even though I have good numbers. I applied pretty late but the waiting still sucks. I don't think I'm going to get lucky this cycle and have already found a job for next year.

Was this a high applicant year or something?

Applying late hurts our chances a lot ! I applied late also with an average stats ( 3.7 & 31M (11-9-11) ) I got accepted to one school that was a safety school for me and I do not really want to go there. I am thinking of replying again next cycle instead of matriculating this year. I am deferred here and wait listed at Temple. Hope some of us who are deferred get a call tonight! Best of luck !

I know there have been at least 2 call days since March 4th.. and I haven't heard (At least from SDN) that anyone got accepted. Fingers crossed for today though!

No rings here. Anyone heard anything?

It'd be funny if someone got the call and its their first med school acceptance. No one would believe it since its April Fools Day. xD

I haven't gotten a call (Waitlisted in December) but if I did get a call I'd think friends playing a joke on me.

I am telling you guys, no tweets = no calls. Dr. Caper please disprove my theory and show me some love !!lol

I keep hearing that OSU really loves high MCAT scores and primarily accepts those applicants... anyone have any input on this?

I dont know what you consider really high but I have a 31 (but it was a 3rd times the charm score). I think they prefer community service minded folks. That is what I have heard and I think their secondary questions really highlighted that. I know someone who got in with an MCAT below 29 so it is possible but you have to have the other goods to back up your applications (GPA and/or awesome ECs).

I think the MSAR said 30-36, but I have a below 30 and got an interview. Note, I'm URM, and they said they accepted like 17% URM last year in the presentation.

Are you deferred also ?

Accepted!!! I'm out of the country right now but my family got the call last night and my status changed this morning. Interviewed 3/13. So excited to start!!

Congrats, well at least someone got a phone call from my interview group! Just got deferred.

Any info on stats about # of applicants, # of applicants interviewed, # of deferred applicants each year, # of deferred applicants that end up getting accepted?

I have a 35 and was deferred on the very first day of acceptances

Will withdraw at this point.... nice knowin ya peeps. The only reason I was still on the run is because I was hoping for an acceptance on the last round and some mula.... seeing as how that is not going to happen, I've pretty much made up my mind and so has my family as to where I'll be headed next year.... good luck to all without acceptances and those on the deferred train that have Ohio State as their top choice!!! :luck:
