II today! Struggling to find a way to attend either of the first two dates, might have to reschedule to Oct 5. Do chances decrease not being an early interviewee at Cincinnati? Previous posts made it seem as if the earliest interviews have significant advantages for OOS applicants.

When did you complete?

I think Oct. 5th is still early. If I remember correctly, they accept a very high percentage of interviewees leading up to the January interview dates.

OOS interviewing in October here! (Picked that date because it coincides with another interview.) I don't believe early October is very late...surely not enough to put us at a disadvantage, I would hope.

October 5th? If so, I'll see you there!

II! Complete 8/3, in-state.

Was invited for 9/14, which seems pretty short notice... still trying to decide whether or not to reschedule. Anyone else going 9/14?

So how high is the early interview acceptance rate that I keep reading about?

Anyone that is out of state get an interview recently? If so when were you complete

Thanks

Hey everyone!

So due to various (stupid) reasons, my application was not submitted to AMCAS for verification until September 1, so the schools won't be receiving my application until mid-October.

Stats: 36Q, GPA - 3.8, sGPA - 3.825, strong extracurriculars (shadowing experiences in 4 locations domestically and 2 internationally, alongside volunteer work, leadership roles, and unpublished chemistry research)

Anyway, how bad is it that I'm applying so late in the cycle for Cinci, which is currently one of my top 3 choices? Anything I can do during verification to help my odds (calling in, letter of intent)?

1. Pretty bad, even with your stats
2. No

If your in state though you probably still have a chance at an interview with your gpa/mcat. Your just at a considerable disadvantage applying this late.

Congrats on the II's!! I'm IS, hoping for one. When did you submit?

Does Cincinnati offer invites pretty late after holding onto apps for a while? I've been complete since 7/25 and haven't heard back yet.

I sure hope so because I've been complete since around 7/23 I think (that's when they received my AMCAS and already had my secondary submitted). I'm assuming they start dividing applicants into tiers. Once they finish the most qualified applicants from IS/OOS, they probably move down to the next subgroup. We, assumably, were placed in a tier that hasn't been reach yet? Or we keep getting reviewed and moved down 🙁

Also, maybe I'm missing it, but is there a way to actually check your status? I go on the secondary website but don't really see a status tab anywhere.

I submitted my secondary on July 10th, but the last letter of Rec. didn't get in till the 25th. I am unsure which date they would have used for reviewing my app.

Not sure if this is what you mean, but you can click the link under status. I think it says "MD Program." There's another link that says the same thing and takes you to your secondary...click the other one

I.. feel dumb hahah. Yeah I kept clicking the application one and never even noticed the status link. Thanks! 👍

I interviewed at UC on Friday. I was pretty apprehensive about the MMI, but it actually went really well, and was even kind of fun! The rest of the day was okay... I was happy but not blown away with the school, people, etc. I was most impressed with the presentation/q&a with Dr. Manuel, the assistant dean of admissions, who was very willing to talk openly about all parts of the admissions process. One thing that I appreciated that was different from my last interview experience was that we did the interview in the morning (like 10:30-11:30) so we could be more relaxed during lunch and the afternoon info sessions. I think UC is a great school and I'm from Cincinnati so I know I would be very comfortable there... hoping to hear good news on Oct. 15!

Thanks for the feedback...I interview here this Friday and am pretty nervous about the MMI, so I'm glad to hear that it wasn't too bad for you. What time were you done for the day? My schedule says that I need to be there at 9, not sure if that's the same for everyone, seems like they may have different start times based on the wording.

Does anyone else have any more info about their interview experience?

Seems like most of the IIs going out at this point are for IS applicants. Any numbers on how many OOS people get IIs?

Also, anyone know if Cinci is receptive to in-the-area emails?

There are different start times. I had to be there at 9 as well, but there was a group who got there earlier. The earlier group was done around 1:30 and I was done around 2:30

I'm OOS. Cinci scheduled me for 10/17, but I'll be at Wright State on 10/10. Going to try and reschedule so I don't have to make two trips up there. I'm kind of scared of the MMI.

Several of us (on this thread) had the experience of being reviewed quickly after sending one.

Oops, sorry, you're totally right. I had done Ctrl-F for "area" to see if anyone had mentioned an in the area email and came up empty-handed, so that's why I posted again. Thanks for answering!

Geez. So I completed that II questionnaire thing and it took me to a page that said my application was incomplete.. Freaked me out, but when I logged in again it shows everything is fine!

Same thing happened to me but I also immediately received the email confirmation for the interview so I figured it was just glitch.

Getting really nervous about the MMI this Friday!

Seems not a lot of people aren't mentioning their interview invites. I'll add to the data:

Complete 8/30/12
II: 9/7/12 (Blazing quick, I know)

Scheduled for this Friday (9/21). My e-mail said I should be there by 7:45a. But, it also says I won't be finished 'til 5p or so. I hope I'm done sooner. Sheesh, that's a long day.

38S / 3.78c / 3.68s In State

If you are in the 7:45 group, you should be done by 2:30pm. That's one thing I wish they had told us beforehand. People who start at 10am will get done by 5.

Mmi is really fun. You will do fine. Mmi was the most fun part of the day for me. Good luck.

Wonderful--- Thanks for the heads up, now I can make plans for the rest of the day.

Good luck, friends.

cmon cinci! show me some IS love!!

I'm nervous about MMI too.

Anyone have any ideas of a good way to get from Dayton to Cinci? I'm interviewing at Wright State the day before Cincinnati and I flying to Dayton. Besides renting a car and flying home from Cinci is there another option? I'm <25 so renting a car is pretty expensive.

😕 I'm in the 9am group. Is it likely that I'll be done by 3?

I'm from outside Dayton and if you're looking for public transportation to get from Dayton to Cincy, I think you're outta luck, sorry!

Also, a bit of advice for those interviewing at UC, you might want to look at the Dayton airport because the one in Cincinnati is actually in northern Kentucky, and it's also among the most expensive in the US.

Ugh great. There also isn't an Amtrak, Greyhound, or Megabus.

Do you suggest flying into Dayton, renting a car, and returning it somewhere in Cincinnati?

It's starting to look like I have only two choices.. Drive to Dayton (7 hours), then to Cincinnati, then back home (6 hours). Or, fly and pay out the ass for a rental car to drive from Dayton to Cincinnati.

Yeah, I'm gonna be doing a similarly long road trip (~15 car hours). I like road trips, so I'm kind of looking forward to it. And hey, it'll definitely be much cheaper than flying!

P.S. +1 on the in-the-area email being effective for a quick turnaround! II yesterday, super excited!

So I also sent an "In The Area" email about 3 weeks ago and never heard a peep in response from Cincinnati. I was getting kinda upset/sad seeing all these successful emails, so I called them and they never received my email! I resent it just now and hopefully I hear back soon. Too bad that it took 3 weeks to figure out, but better late than never I suppose. 🙁

EDIT: HOLY COW! I just got an II 23 minutes after resending the email!!! AHHHHHH so happy

If you go to rental car websites about a week before you are going, they have last minute deals (usually a tab at the top). I got one for 2 days this weekend for a total of $60. (I am not under 25 though.) I haven't tried returning in a different place to see if it holds, but that's what I'll be doing in OH in a couple of weeks.

I'll be there tomorrow, too! First interview so a bit nervous. I'm in the earliest group. Is the MMI at the beginning or end of the day?

@foster033: We are MCAT twins, and we have the same age and the same hometown 🙂 That's interesting. I guess we might pass by each other tomorrow. But I'm in the 7:45 group (ugh).

Good luck, everyone.

Congrats on your success thus far man. Which DO school if you don't mind me asking? And would you rather go there than to Wright?

Thanks! Nova Southeastern. I'd probably attend Wright over NSU and that's why I'm only considering rescheduling rather than canceling.
