Was it just me or was January 15th supposed to be the magic day that we hear whether we are accepted/final pooled/rejected?? For some reason I thought we were told this date...

I was thinking about calling, but I don't want to bother the admissions staff if this wasn't true.. does anyone know/has anyone heard anything back today??

Thanks!🙂

Don't quote me here, but I think that if your application hadn't gone before the committee by the 15th of January then it was automatically in the final pool.

Which is a bummer. I interviewed 11/19 and am sick of waiting 🙁 I also have a DO deposit due the 28th, so I probably still won't know anything before I have to fork that over.

But what does that mean we're automatically in final pool? When do we hear? May?!?!?!
I interviewed 10/29...

Mmm, I also am not totally sure, but at my interview in early Dec, I thought we were told we'd hear by the end of January.

Oh thankfully that could be the case... that would be nice to hear!

I read through this thread today and noticed that many people said they had to be at MERF by 10:30. My interview tab and the information there says to be there at 8:30. Do they just change the times up for some interview days? Just making sure I'm not misinformed or anything!

I had a 10:30a Monday interview, but I know that a few of the other dates I had to choose from started at 8:30

I interviewed yesterday (Friday) and it started at 8:30. It sounded like all Friday interviews start at 8:30 and other days of the week start at 10:30. Good luck!

Also, the director of admissions said they were done with the rolling admissions process, and all applicants left would go directly to the final pool. The decisions for the final pool will be released in March, and alternate spots will be ranked.

Awwwwww was really hoping there would be one more round! Oh well...

What exactly is the final pool & how does it work? I haven't interviewed yet and I'm sure they'll explain it when i do, but now I'm curious!

So everyone that interviewed but wasn't accepted is placed in the final pool?

For those who were reimbursed for travel expenses, did they tell you during the interview day that they would do this or did you find this information somewhere else?

They made no mention of it during my interview day and I haven't been able to find information about it on their site.

They should have spoken to you and given you the proper forms when you checked in before the interview day.

Looks like no more reimbursements then ha because all I got was a name tag when I checked in.

Just got the email! Accepted!!!! Interviewed December 3rd. Woohoo 🙂

Accepted earlier today! I didn't put this in my mdapps yet but I am a third time applicant and my 35 is from a retake of a sub 30 score. This is my first acceptance and I would be very happy here!!! Not many people get to do what they want to do for the rest of their life and I feel very fortunate to have that chance.

I'm def not getting in lol. They dnt take that many minorities. You and I have the same mcat and we are from the same state lol. I'm done....

+1

What does this mean, held for review again in the final pool?

Final pool e-mail today also. Interviewed 12/14, oos.

Yes definitely final pool >> rejection....

Better than a straight up rejection I guess. 2 more months of waiting here we go.

Final pool as well. Interviewed 9/20. Definitely better than a straight up rejection. Iowa really hasn't accepted that many people so far. From what I've heard over the years, especially for IS, most people end up in the final pool and then get a decision in March.

Has anyone been rejected post interview?

Yeah that's what I was wondering as well. Do all the interviewees get placed into the final pool or are some rejected as well. I thought I remembered them saying that you can either be final pooled, rejected or accepted right away. I also got an email for the final pool. I'm a bit bummed considering Iowa is my one of my top choices and I was thoroughly impressed with everything they have to offer!

We all have to stay positive though, we've made it this far for an amazing school in a ridiculously competitive applicant pool overall! I was on the alternate list at another MD program last cycle and waited an excruciating 4 months just to be rejected in June. It was definitely devastating and I felt like I hit bottom. I had to scramble for a masters postbac program and retake the MCAT with only a month and a half to study and I ended up increasing my score by 4 points! So yeah, just keep fighting, we'll get to where we want to be!🙂

That seems to be my recollection as well, so if we're final pooled, it means we didn't get rejected post interview...

But for OOS, the chances of getting selected aren't terribly high 🙁 Only 40 seats.

Crosses fingers.

Final pooled as well. IS, interviewed 11/14. Most of my med student friends from iowa have said similar things about their previous situations. Not sure if everyone gets final pooled or if they send out some rejections today too.

But see, most of the Iowa people will make it in. There are 100 seats for IS.

Does anyone have any idea how many IS applicants they put in the final pool? I was also curious as to how many IS applications get accepted into rolling, because it seemed like OOS was favored during the rolling process (from what I've seen from SDN)-- anyone know if this is true?

If I remember correctly they give out at least 80 acceptances to OOS applicants even though theres only 40 OOS seats

80 stilllll isn't a lot. We have to consider that there's like 200-300 possible OOS interviewees...

I was under the impression that rolling favored OOS, maybe because those OOS students are probably interviewing at many different schools and Iowa would want to offer attractive OOS students fairly early in the cycle. Being the only in state MD program, there's less pressure to admit IS during rolling phase, assuming those IS students would prefer to stay in state. The advantage is spending more energy during the rolling phase on attracting OOS while saving energy to look at the majority of IS during final pool.

This is purely speculative, but I think I made pretty logical assumptions.

I definitely agree. This is logical! I'm hoping its true, too.

Welll... that means it's going to be unfavorable to me being OOS to be in final pool =/ Since there was such movement for the OOS to get accepted during rolling...

So much speculation! I was final pooled at Iowa in 2011 and rejected in the middle of March (IS). Here's hoping for better results this time around!

What were your stats the first time around? If you don't mind me asking...

Small pooled here too. OOS interviewed mid october

Good luck you guys! I'm rooting for all of you!

Yep, this is the case. I've been told this by many who are connected to Iowa's program.

I'm IS and was final pooled yesterday, also. Bummed of course, but realize it's better than rejection and most IS acceptances come from final pool. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Good luck to all of you!
