I believe that the waitlist goes out once all spots are filled. UMMS can't over accept, meaning they may only have 125 acceptances out at any given time. They are pretty consistent in their timing from year to year. Look at the prior year's threads and you can guage when the WL goes out. I don't remember off hand. Just because you haven't heard yet does not mean you won't get accepted either outright or off the WL. Stay strong.

To save the rest of you time, waitlists started going out last year in the first week of April, but it still seems relatively unpredictable. Straight acceptances still went out several weeks after that, and one guy who interviewed in September was waiting until the end of April for a waitlist. Either way, at least it seems the majority of us will have closure within a month.

edit: and would those of you dead-set on attending other schools please start to consider withdrawimg?

I just got a rejection this morning. I interviewed Jan 29th, and the interviews went well.

My stats were low,

GPA 3.3
MCAT 30R

Had lots of clinical and work experience, and a first authorship in Science Mag, and many mid-author papers. Almost 2 years of work in bush villages in Africa. Guess it didn't make up for the low stats. Good luck everyone. Here's to next year, and retaking the MCAT...

Accepted this morning- 3.9 42R ivy
Wow. Did it really take them 7 months? Lol.

does any know if umass has been rejecting post interview or do they start in march/april?

They have been rejecting post interview. Don't know how many but they have been.

Has anyone heard back recently for MD/PhD?

I haven't. On the interview day, I was told that we would hear back in late March/early April. But there was a post a few pages back saying that someone was accepted in late Feb. Does anyone have info on when we can expect to hear back?

the aamc suggests med schools send out enough acceptances to fill the school class by march 30. Do you think Umass has already sent out 125 acceptances?

For current UMMS students, I was wondering how feasible it would be to spend half the week in Cambridge and half in Worcester? Would this work with first year schedule and attendance requirements? If not, would one miss out on opportunities by not being in Worcester on the weekend?
Thanks!

There are several people in the class that commute from the Boston every day or regularly. Most lectures can be skipped and watched at home, really no benefit to going to class. There are a few small groups occasionally that are required, but other than that you should be fine. As for missing out on not being in Worcester, it depends.

i really thought that by the end of march more people would have heard something..or maybe they have but are not posting...?

Well supposedly, according to the aamc website (https://www.aamc.org/students/applying/recommendations/admissionofficers/) and from what I've read, they're supposed to have at least one full class worth of acceptances (~125) given out by March 30th. Apparently this just means they need to have sent out that many, not that they've had 125 people accept their offers. So, if that's the case, it would seem like people just aren't on SDN or aren't posting.

Hey everyone. Ive been following for a while but just decided to sign up today. I was interviewed fairly late in the season and was told that acceptances will likely be going out well into may. Rumor had it that a few people were unable to make their interviews and will be having them in April. Because of this, my suggestion is if you got accepted somewhere else take it rather than risking waiting on umass and not getting in.

*If any date falls on a weekend/holiday the recommendation(s) will begin on the following business day.

Also note that although they call them Traffic Rules, they immediately bail by using the very loose term "AAMC Recommendations"

I've been reading these posts forever, but I just made an account now. I interviewed 3/13 and got my acceptance 3/29.

If we interviewed in September/october and still haven't heard anything does that mean we most likely be waitlisted at least and not rejection since they do give out post interview rejections?

Congrats, but wow my jimmies are very rustled right now. How about some consideration UMass for those of us who have been waiting several months?

Hey guys I've been following the posts for a while now, but still have a hard time believing the class is full. If you look at the UMass class of 2017 page only 36 (+4 admins) were present. Even if we double that number to account for people not part of the group, that leaves about 50 spots...I interviewed in mid September and still haven't heard back but am using this logic to keep me goin haha

I like your logic, haha. 🙂 I interviewed mid-October, too, so I really hope you're right.

Well second look is in like 3 weeks, so they kinda have to have a full class of acceptances out by then, right?

Last year people were still getting accepted around this time...who knows maybe they continue that trend?

Congrats! Do you mind sharing your stats / credentials with us? I'm sure many of us that have been waiting for several months to hear back post-interview are curious what attracted UMASS to respond so quickly to your app.

Even that above student with a 42 MCAT & 3.9 Ivy GPA waited 7 months for a response. Did you have some extraordinary experience that UMASS highly values?

It's hard to believe that all acceptances have been given out because UMass is known to have relatively late decisions and no one here seems to get wait-listed yet. Hopefully we'll hear something tomorrow, assuming they don't want to send out decisions on Fool's Day? 🙂

A few more people were added to the facebook group today... maybe they are sending news on days besides Friday now? It was also around this time last year that waitlists started going out, and the waitlist letter does say that the class is filled at that point.

I think you need to be approved by the facebook group administrators in order to show up there so my guess is those were the people accepted friday and today one of the admins accepted their add.

Has anyone heard from MD/PhD? They said on the interview day that we would hear back in April.

Also if you guys don't mind saying when you interviewed?

Is the best we can hope for now a waitlist?

From last year and the two years before (someone last year compiled all the interview/waitlist/accept/reject posts on sdn from the two previous years), thats what it looks like unfortunately. It also seems like the list moves pretty fast, though. People were getting accepted two weeks after getting waitlisted. Thats just some speculation from the limited SDN sample, obviously, so take it with a grain of salt. But, unfortunately it does look like waitlist from here on out.

According to last year's thread, apparently a few people still got accepted without getting wait-listed in mid-April.

What a random process. I wish they would design an MCAT verbal passage about how the med school admission process works. 😛

Hey guys,
At 4:15 today I got an email that I am on the wait list. I interviewed mid September.
Stats: 3.96, 32Q.
Good luck!
