Thanks everyone for your input! I'll keep checking in if anybody else has any insights to share 🙂
I've always wanted to attend the U for med school being IS and having various connections here, but my acceptance to UW-Madison is starting to tempt me (fun mid-sized city, beautiful facilities, great research, etc.)... I would guess that many of you on this forum have looked at/considered Madison at some point, and I was wondering what differences stand out to you the most between the schools? Pros/cons/general opinions/personal stories
I know that we all have personal reasons and such, but if you're willing to share your experience I'd appreciate it because I'm struggling to make a decision... thanks! 🙂
I'm hoping I can share some relatively unbiased info for you, and please feel free to PM me if you want/need more answers. I grew up just outside Minneapolis, and I will be graduating (undergrad) from UW-Madison in May.
Since you already know all about Minneapolis, I'll focus on Madison. Madison is a great mid-sized city with plenty of things to do, but it is almost entirely undergraduate focused. I usually describe MN as a large university integrated into the Twin Cities, and Madison is a city dominated by UW. As a result of that, Minneapolis and St. Paul have a lot more going on culturally/socially that are not university/18-22 focused. With that being said, the med. school at UW is not too far away from downtown, but it is definitely not something I would walk on a regular basis. There is a great bus system and plenty of cheap cabs, but living near the med school would make getting to the bars and restaurants downtown for a drink or two a pain. I chose UW for my undergrad studies because I believe the campus is more compact and more beautiful, but the med school is not included in that "compactness," if you will. If you are really into sports, I believe UW has more of a sports culture than MN (especially football), but I don't care about sports too much. Academically, Madison is slightly better at research and has a larger emphasis on public health, but Minnesota is slightly better at primary care.
Although I was rejected by UWSMPH, I was not entirely disappointed. I love large cities, and Madison has started to feel too small after four years. I had a fantastic time as an undergrad, but it's definitely time for me to move on. I have an interview at the U-TC coming up, and I can't wait.
Hey all, sorry I'm behind on the game, but how does the U notify applicants about interview invites? Email or snail mail? Thanks!
That being said, I know nothing about Wisconsin's public health system, so I can't offer any insight into that. If anyone are interested in public health and population health, I would do a little more research before you choose!
EDIT: I should note that this is not intended as a shot at you or anyone else. I just want to make sure another perspective is heard. 👍
WEDNESDAY!!!!!
Course enrolment was on Monday for my school, and I was contemplating whether I should take fun classes cuz it's my last semester or more bio classes to raise my GPA. I guess it all depends on today. If I get the call, easy classes it is, if not then most likely I'm going to reapply so therefore more bio classes... We'll see we'll see... gosh can't get myself to do anything today...
Anybody got a call yet? Anxiously waiting here as well.
I just want to know, if anyone has any knowledge on this matter... Does anyone know if they've sent out any decisions since Mid-December?
All this stress can't be good for my heart... It has been way over 2 months since my interview. The only good news so far is that I haven't received the rejection letter yet...
I'm guessing you have been following the thread for some time now, but just in case, I thought I'd reiterate my first interview experience here:
It was a little over 13 weeks after my interview until I heard anything... At that time, they told me it would be 4-6 weeks, but expect 5-8. Now I tell people to follow this heuristic:
Officially 4-6 weeks.
They say 5-8 weeks.
Expect 7-13 weeks.
Good luck everyone who is awaiting that phone call!
GOT THE CALL GOT THE CALL GOT THE CALL!!!!
I GOT IN

I WAS READY TO CALL IT A DAY AND TURN MY PHONE ON SILENCE!!!

OOS interviewed 11/12😀
I'm thinking about canceling my interview with MCW this friday. This can't be a mistake right? When they call me I'm guaranteed acceptance right???? right??? OMG this does not even feel real...
Congrats! Sadly, didn't get the call today. 🙁
And yes, assuming you don't fail out or commit a felony or something, you're in! Feel free to withdraw and not spend more money! Congrats again 🙂
Thank you thank you!!
When was your interview? She called me at like 5:20pm central time, way after when the office is supposed to be closed. So maybe they're running late today 🙂 Hope for one tomorrow!Good luck!!
Mine was in +/- 2 weeks of yours. I know they take their sweet time, I'm just hoping them come through sooner than later. 😀 Did she say if they're giving acceptance calls on Thursdays as well? I thought they were only on Wednesdays after the committee meets.
no while I was being neurotic today waiting for the call, I scrolled through the whole 14 pages and I noticed some people getting acceptance calls on Thursdays 🙂 So that's what I told myself from 4:00pm-5:20pm... "it's okay jelliebeans, you'll get one tmr" lol
Good luck!
Congratulations JB! Such a wonderful feeling--it barely feels real! 👍
Does your excited post mean we'll be classmates this fall??
Well done, and thanks! I'll avoid the neuroticism by going to eat some cake and ice cream. 😎
Are you still waiting for any other schools to get back to you or are you set for August?
ACCEPTED! FIRST ONE! Call at 5:03pm central! Sooooo happy!!!
Interviewed 12/13. Surprised by the quick turnaround but the woman said they really liked my app. 32//3.76//3.83 IS. Research at the U for 1.5 years. Nothing that impressive in my mind but so so so pumped up!
Congrats Jelliebeans. Sadly I didn't get the call. We interviewed on the same week. I am hoping for one tomorrow or next Wednesday the latest.
Although I got excepted somewhere else already - The U is my first choice. I am IS, went to school there, and my family is there. So I am really hoping for a call soon - so I don't have to worry about preparing for the other school.

Interviewed early November; still heard nothing!! It appears that today's action pertained to December Interviewees. So Scared
I think it really depends on if you're IS or OOS (I think they have two different piles or something).
It seems like they're giving out mid december decisions to IS and the OOS are much slower. I'm OOS and I interviewed in early November too, so don't worry too much 🙂
Hey all, I have two questions if anyone could help me out
1) Has anyone received an interview from TC campus lately and if so when were you complete?
2) Has anyone recently received a letter from Duluth post interview, and if so, when did you interview?
Thanks!
Soooo I'm IS and I interviewed the second week of December and didn't receive a call this week..
Did I likely get waitlisted, or does the U not stick to a strict evaluation order by interview day? I thought my interview went well, and I have good stats (35+, 3.9+), so I think I have a good shot at getting in. Sorry to sweat my neuroticism all over this thread, but the U is definitely my top choice for med school... yeeeee
Congrats! By the way, when did you complete?
Does anyone know when the committee meets? I believe they are meeting this week, but I wasn't sure.
Congrats to all those accepted! I am quite envious!
For any of those on the waitlist, anyone know when we can expect to hear?
The waitlist letter said that no updates would be accpeted, but does anyone know if I can call about my status or express interest?
Thanks y'all! And to the acceptees, party it up!
Is it appropriate to send application updates if you've been put on the wait list? (In the hopes that it would help my app when they re-review it in March for the ranking.)
Out-of-state admissions data
2459 applied, 168 interviewed (7%!!!, 7%), 95
were accepted (57%, 4%), 29 enrolled (31%, 1.2%!!!)
Wow, being out of state looks pretty bleak. Good luck, everyone!
