Interview invite today! Pretty pumped as I was beginning to lose hope! IS 3.8/30Q reapplicant, but took last year's application cycle off to get more clinical experience.

In previous years, if you were placed on the waitlist, you had to wait until the final ranked list came out in mid-May. Once you were waitlisted, I believe you were then either accepted, rejected, or ranked when the final list came out--but no decision was made until then, and they did not accept any supplemental materials.

In anticipation of someone asking how the ranked wait list works (or how it has in the past):

Once the final list is ranked, you are sent a letter with your initial rank. A hotline is set up that you can call to determine which number on the list is next. For example, let's say I was ranked 37th on the final wait list--on day one, if I called the hotline, it would tell me that the admissions committee is at number one on the waitlist. That is, if someone who was offered a position in the class declines the seat, the next person to be called for an acceptance would be the individual ranked number one. I then call next week, and they are on number 15, etc.

Again, this is based on my previous experience with the waitlist (and friends who were on the waitlist), so I don't speak for the U in any way...

Congrats! When were you complete?

mid may or mid march? i thought they had said march but i might be wrong.

I checked last years thread a while back and I'm pretty sure people received their rank letters in mid-late April.

From what I understood from the letter -It says you can either be accepted, rejected, or put on the alternate list on May 15. Maybe I read that wrong.

I think last year the list came out before May as I posted above. I don't think they will randomly accept anyone who is on the WL in the next month or two. If that was what you were wondering. They might accept/reject a few people when they are making the ranked list in spring but I figure it doesn't really mater. My thinking was that once we get our rank number, you have a pretty good idea if you will be accepted or not. From past years, it seems like if you fall in the top 50 you should be good, 50-70 maybe, and higher than that is grim at best.

Sounds about right from my experiences!

I look forward to hearing about everyone's position on the waitlist, and hopefully I will be able to meet many of you as classmates this summer! 👍

For those of you accepted, are you planning on going to the re-visit day?

Yeah got it. I was referring to when they are re-reviewing and making the ranked list.

Anybody else who has interviewed nervously waiting to hear back from the U? Every time my phone rings or when I check the mail, my heart races.

Two weeks since the last acceptances...

So I know the admissions committee doesn't re-open applications of those who are placed on the wait-list, but is it appropriate to keep expressing interest while waiting for the rankings to come out in a few months?

Wait-listed 37M, 3.9, interviewed November 16th. I emailed the director of admissions and she said the U doesn't take letters of intent or anything and we won't find out about rank or anything until May.

Has anyone heard of someone deferring enrollment after being accepted off the waitlist at the U?

Wow, any idea why? Unfortunate interview? Gap in your ECs? You have excellent stats.

I think my EC's were pretty good ( about a year and a half of hospice volunteering, other service volunteering, 3 years research with a bunch of published abstracts, etc). I guess they just didn't like me a whole lot in the interview, but they are getting more selective now as it is a little late in the cycle.

I mean I'm sure they're getting more selective, but this isn't Harvard we're talking about. 3.9/37 is not common. Maybe they thought you were interested in elsewhere? Idk, I'm sorry though, hopefully you've had luck elsewhere!

Ha thanks, but I haven't really. I was pretty set on the U so I didn't apply many other places. Now to just wait for the ranking...

Can anybody tell me about how long it was to find out your interview date after you sent in your top 2 choices?

🙁

May your number low, and your hopes be high!

Do you know if schools really do waitlist students if they think they will go somewhere else? I guess I can see why they would but that idea just seems weird to me.

I was thinking the same thing. Unless you have any red flags in your application, I don't see why they would wait list you with those stats and IS status.

I hope that's the case anyway because I'm also IS and don't have anywhere near the same stats as you haha. Fingers crossed you get a GREAT wait list #!

has ANYONE received any decision, good or not so good, this week?

Probably a myth applicants choose to believe because it makes them feel better. There is no way a school would do that to one of their own residents.

Wait listing a 3.9/37 IS applicant is very odd however

Agreed, but I doubt that's the reason. I have completely given up on attempting to rationalize why committees make the decisions they do. Many of the decisions I have heard about during this cycle are very strange.

the U is big on exposure to medicine. if you havent had substantial interaction in a medical setting (i know you said you did hospice) that could have been it. they have said many times numbers + research doesnt cut it. you need to show that you have developed an understanding medicine, through shadowing, working/volunteering in medical environments, etc.

I'm by no means saying that's what the problem is, but just pointing this out so everyone doesn't think numbers are everything. For all we know, it could have also been a bad letter of rec or something, lol
