Just got the acceptance call!!! IS. Interviewed 1/25 so I wasn't expecting anything for another 4 or 5 weeks. Needless to say it was a pleasant surprise for an otherwise boring Wednesday.

Thats amazing! Congrats. Must've blown them away w/ your interview! Anyone know how late they make calls? Doing my best to not think about it. yeah right....

Congrats to all who were accepted today!! If you are pretty set on U of MN and are in the Twin Cities area, PM me. We are having our first happy hour get together for the class of 2017 this Friday and you are welcome to come!

ACCEPTED!! Congrats to everyone who got the call, the U is my number 1 choice as well!!

IS interviewed 12/13

🙁 UMN was really one of the FIRST secondaries I should have finished. I'm from SC, went to USC, and came back to USC for some post-bacc refresher work (although I never really left Columbia). There is nothing that ties me Minnesota except that I love being there for my mom's side of the family whenever I get the chance :/... Seeing that I've been a SC resident for most of my life (and educated here too, which I don't think I need to elaborate on 😛), I doubt I really stand a snowball's chance but I'd at least be thrilled for an interview -- any reason to get back up there for a week!

Anyway, sorry to poke my head in on the whole discussion but I just wanted to get it out there that UMN is my pipe dream! I think I cleared the absolute deadline by like 2 weeks, so definitely a pipe dream... crossing my fingers that someone makes a clerical error and invites me for an interview. Other than that, I'll be starting at USC sch. of medicine this fall (excited regardless!)

For any of y'all who made it in: Congratulations! and stay warm!

For anyone reapplying (been through it before myself, it sucks), I have a pro-tip: USC-Columbia and Greenville both relatively OOS-friendly 😉

Does anyone know how many students are typically on the waitlist? Is everyone who interviews placed on it?

Congrats to all the accepted!!
To those who interviewed, could you please fill out interview feedback survey?
Want to gain more insight about the U.

Pretty sure everyone who is not accepted is placed on the WL. I haven't heard of anyone being rejected post interview.

IS and interviewed 12/14. I have not heard anything back at all. Anyone have a better idea of what this means? I'm starting to get confused because people from date after my interview are hearing back.

Thanks

Saw some of you updated the interview feedback page.
Really appreciated your input 😉

I was really worried too when I was not hearing back, but people who had interviewed after my date had. Lola (the secretary) explained to me that each of your interviewers has a deadline in which they have to submit their review of you. As soon as it gets done, you are added to the queue to be looked over by the committee again. The queue is organized by date in which both of your reviews have been submitted and the committee reviews the files in that order.

Just got the acceptance package in the mail today. Do I have to do anything more than send in the declaration of intent form and pay the deposit to hold my spot?

Does Minnesota want and/or accept post-interview updates or letters of intent?

No, they're pretty vocal about not accepting updates. For them, the interview is pretty much their final evaluation of you as an applicant. The admissions office is very friendly though, so if you have any specific questions, you can always give them a call.

Yeahhhhhh maybe just send one through e-mail. If they take it, they take it. If they don't, they don't...but maybe it will help you feel more in control of this process.....? Good luck!

I got some help from others. I thought I could contribute some when it is my turn. Hope it would be helpful to someone in the future.
The people are really nice and friendly, even people beyond school in airport, hotel, etc. As someone who came to the TC for the first time, I was impressed. Another interesting thing I found out, when I asked faculty what their favorite things about the school, they always said people. People are competitive but supportive. On the other hand, medical students would say the program. It's interesting to see how faculty and students have different views, probably related to the stage in their life. People really like their school, but they didn't exaggerate or pretend. You can feel they are really down to earth.
You will learn a lot about the school during the presentation in the morning. That's good arrangement b/c you have things to talk about in the interview. What I heard most are the various opportunities open to medical students in the area and pre-clinical experience. B/c UMN is the only school in TC area, most hospitals/programs are open to medical students, i.e. rotations/research/community service etc. Also M1 get in contact with patients, which is pretty cool.
In terms of interview, the advice I received is to get to know myself. I think it's really helpful. I feel more confident when I walk in, b/c I know my stuff. My interviews were really laid-back. I didn't have a single hard question. I didn't get asked healthcare, ethics, etc. But I heard people were asked more difficult questions. I think SDN interview survey should cover a pretty good amount of questions.

Glad you enjoyed the Minnesota experience. We try to be nice here 🙂

"Minnesota nice" is not completely madeup 😉
I'm gonna sit back and relax. I'm glad the admission makes it explicit that no post-interview materials are accepted. So I won't be worrying about sending something all the time.

I hope thank you letters are okay. I just mailed them via snail mail.

When do ranked alternate list numbers usually come out?

Mid april usually. Anyone know where they are at for the IS interviewees? I'm 6 weeks p interview this week. Patience is a virtue....right?

Where is it made clear that they do not accept letters of interest? Thanks!

On my interview day, they said they don't accept post-interview update. Plus, I saw it here and there in the post. You can always check with admission office. It's better to be safe.

Just received the acceptance call!! I am an IS reapplicant and its 7 weeks post-interview. Look forward to enrolling with the rest of you this fall!

I just got the call about an hour ago! IS and interviewed ~five weeks ago!

I'm in too. Theresa must have been busy today! IS, interviewed 6 weeks ago. Wow. Thats all I can say. Congrats to everyone!

Sounds like IS are hearing back pretty quick...hope I get the call soon! 4 weeks post interview here.

Does anyone know if Duluth accepts updates? Also, do they have much movement off of the waitlist? I just wonder with them having such a small class...

I'm not sure about updates, but I feel like they don't because the process they described post interview sounded a lot like the Twin Cities process (I may be wrong).

I'm not sure when you interviewed, but I interviewed in early Dec and was told that by the time the committee reviewed my complete application, they wouldn't be accepting anymore until April when they were done with all interviews (because after they hit 45 acceptances they hold everyone else). They said what you wanted to receive was a high priority group letter which meant that you should ultimately be accepted in April (or off of the wait-list shortly after). I think they also said that they rank again in April for the actual wait-list after sending out the remaining acceptances and that most people in tier 1 get in eventually.

Hope this helps!

Congrats to all those accepted this week! I am anxiously sitting at 7 weeks post-interview. Hoping for good news this coming Wednesday or Thursday!

Hello ladies! I'm an OOS applicant (Florida to be specific) and I am looking for some cold weather attire tips from those who are IS and have interviewed already. I have lived up north before, but I have never had a professional interview north of the Mason Dixon line... let alone during the winter. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated 🙂 Thank you!!

PS I have a down coat. It's not exactly stylish, but it is incredibly warm!

Thanks for the help! I'm just a bit confused, is the high priority letter different from the regular waitlist letter? Or is that something that is sent out later?

The really bad cold is pretty much done for the year (hopefully) so you shouldn't need anything too heavy. I don't think you'll need a hat or gloves either. I wore a simple peacoat and was just fine. I'm sure a down coat would work as long as it looks somewhat nice. Hope that helps!

I interviewed last Tuesday and Susan in the admissions office said when they make the decision on your application, they will either put you on the waiting list or high priority waiting list. I don't think you can move up from the waiting list to the high priority waiting list. She also said there were a record number of interviewees this year and that they might not even make it down the list for accepting all the people on the high priority waiting list, which means they probably won't accept anyone off the waiting list this year. Rankings for these waiting lists will be released in early April, is what it sounded like to me.

Is this for Duluth or Twin Cities?

Anyone know if the TC uses a system like this?

Not sure, although there were a ton of people interviewing at TC on my interview day (17 or 18, I think - maybe a few more OOS than IS). I think that's pretty abnormal, although maybe not this year?

Hey, I was there the 18th too! And I was surprised by how many OOS applicants there were (maybe just because it is late in the season). I didn't think the group was too large, but maybe that's because I had one group of like 25 people at another interview.

I don't think TC is the same as Duluth. My understanding is that TC campus will accept, waitlist or reject you 4 - 12+ weeks after your interview. They don't put acceptances on hold until interviews are over (as is proof by those individuals who were recently accepted). I do believe TC tiers/numbers their waitlist when they release it in april/may, so I suppose you could kind of consider 1st tier "high priority" because from the sound of it from past years, most people in that tier seem to make it off. But overall they are pretty different (IMO).

TC just ranks their wait list. Based on last year, if you are in the top 50 you will probably get in.
