good luck you guys! i got the acceptance call this past monday (10/15) and am super stoked because the U is my first choice. now i gotta wait for the acceptance package 🙂
 
Just gotan email from duluth with interview evaluation in the title. Heart skipped a beat. Then opened and read its a link to a survey. Grrrrrrfr

Do you mind asking when you interviewed? I had mine 9/13, and am getting so anxious waiting for a response!

Haha I got the same e-mail today too. Susan will call you if you are accepted. I found out I was waitlisted (for the second year in a row) on Wednesday via snail mail, but I also got my first acceptance elsewhere so the long wait to figure out where I stand on the list won't be too bad I suppose..
 
I'm flying into Minneapolis today for a Monday interview. Anyone in the area interested in doing some rock climbing or other fun activity?

I interviewed on 9/20. It was really unexpected when I got the phone call from Theresa cause she said it would be 6-8 weeks to hear a decision from them. I hope you hear good news too!

I am very happy for you! Though to be honest, I am now very paranoid haha Here's to hoping for good news soon!

I interviewed on the 12th of sept and they emailed me on the 15th of oct and said that they hadn't had a chance to review my file. Its possible they are running behind. I was told I would be informed of my status next Mon
 
This thread is too quiet for having two full medical schools 😛
 
The U was kind enough to put on an information session last night for nontraditional students. The student panel was great. Can't wait to apply !!!! Good luck folks!!:luck:
 
that means an automatic acceptance right (as does second, even though I'm not applying this year, lol ?)
 
II Today! (Duluth campus) Interviewing Nov 8! So excited!
 
Just got the acceptance call today from the TC campus. So excited. I interviewed back in the later half of September, so I didn't expect anything this early.
 
Also got the acceptance call today! So excited, first acceptance! Interviewed 9/21
 
How long does it normally take for TC secondaries to be sent out? My primary was in nearly seven weeks ago.... :/

Congratulations! Here's to hoping they get to decisions on the 9/28 interview group in a week or two then! I'm on pins and needles over here.
 
Just got the call for acceptance from Duluth! Interviewed on the 12th of Sept! So excited!

Got a letter today, Waitlisted. Gotta say, I'm a bit disappointed that my alma mater didn't give me a nod, but I suppose that's how these go sometimes!

Congrats to all those with acceptances and good luck to everyone else!
 
Congrats to everyone who was accepted, must be very exciting and I wonder if I interviewed with any of you...and hey, getting waitlisted isn't the worst news, it should move quite a bit!

This. Wait list does move quite a bit. I started at 68 last year and made it to 4, and the year before I heard it went into the low 70's.
 
So is it safe to say if TC is accepting people after your interview day you are either rejected or waitlisted?

Not to be a creeper, but naturally I looked at last year's thread after getting the letter haha and I saw the movement looked pretty good. Though I definitely feel for ya man, 68 to 4, so close!

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for ya this time, keep the hope alive!

Any idea when they will put the ranked list out this year? Seems like they are moving a bit quicker this year than previous years..
 
So has everyone bee told their wait list position? And do people get put in behind everyone currently on the wait list or can they be inserted ahead of you? Also, is this different at different schools?
 
1) Yeah it was quite rough, especially considering that they have a phone hotline that they update with movement, so you always know exactly where you stand.

2) Thanks! Yeah I am anxiously awaiting my decision, hopefully I hear soon!

3) Well last year the ranked waitlist came out in the second week in March, if I can remember correctly..

All schools do wait lists differently. Some rank and some don't. The ones that don't rank base their choices off of what type of applicant you are to keep their class balanced, or so they say.

They generate a ranked alternate list in March. From what I remember from last year, after being placed on the waitlist post-interview you can be rejected still until they make the ranked list. I don't believe people are accepted off of the waitlist until after they rank you (if they rank you. I had a friend who ended up being rejected before they came out with the number rankings.)
 
Got a secondary from TC today, my stats are not impressive, so I'm a little confused. This is a good thing, right?? Yay for self-doubt....

It's nice to know TC ranks. I like knowing my chances of ending up in a city for the next four years so I can plan my life accordingly. Some schools don't afford you this convenience. All part of the processes I guess.
If it's any consolation, two of the 2nd years I talked to at my interview got in off the wait list. I hope it works out for you.

Yes it's good, but you need abysmal stats to be screened out pre-secondary. Less than 24 MCAT bad.
 
does anyone know roughly what % of IS people who interview get in? I saw something on the MSAR, but I wasn't sure if that was people who were actually accepted or matriculants.

MSAR is matriculate only, not sure why. USNWR reports acceptances as well.

As a guide for MSAR, it seems [to me] that the general trend is they accept about twice as many as they matriculate at the high up private schools, and state schools tend to accept a bit less than that.

The UMN actually has one of the highest acceptance rates in the country (outside of a couple very small state schools). The UMN, including UMD, gave 516 interviews last year and matriculated 230 students. They likely accepted around 300-325 students, though I'm not sure exactly how many. Those are some pretty good odds, though they're quite a bit less for OOSers.

It would help if the numbers were split into their respective schools... For some reason I don't trust those interview numbers... I could have sworn they suggested the U gives out like 600-700 interviews.

However, I don't remember where I got that information, and don't have the MSAR data either, so I could easily be way off. :laugh:

EDIT: Although if they took about 64 off the wait list for a class of approximately 170 (if I remember correctly from years past), that puts it at about 234 accepted, plus the 60 for the UMD class, plus maybe about half the class size off the wait list... 300-325 sounds about right. But even if they give 600-700 interviews, that's still 40-50% acceptance rate post-interview.

If you look at the UMN-Twin Cities admissions page under the tab "Admissions: The Basics" it directly states that 281 acceptances were given from a pool of 476 interviewees (including MD/PhD) in 2011. For this past cycle (2012), the website states that 582 interviews were given out, and it would be reasonable to assume that they would have handed out a slightly higher number of acceptances. That's just speculation, though.

Yep I interviewed about 3 weeks ago. Anxiously awaiting a decision but I know that I have quite a bit of time to kill before I hear back!

Haha, yup... When I interviewed a few years ago, the attitude was:

Officially 4-6 weeks
Off the record 5-8 weeks
Realistically 6-12 weeks

:laugh:

It sounds like they've gotten a lot faster in recent years, which is great for applicants (and I'm sure it means it's a more streamlined process for the committee).

You may hear back sooner than you think. It took them 3 weeks exactly to give me the phone call. Great school, good luck.

Yep, I got the call less than 3 weeks after interviewing. It was a great surprise - so be on the lookout!
