Hi guys! I have my interview tomorrow at the TC campus. I'm so scared! I'm OOS and I heard that chances aren't too bright for us OOS huh?
Is there any advice that you guys can give me about what to look for? I'm so nervous but I would REALLY like to go here! Thank you!

I have been looking over this thread and a lot of people from the Duluth campus talked about the interview, but not so much from the TC campus. Do you guys know if the interviews are similar?

I had a great experience at the TC interview (although I did recently get accepted here, so maybe my perspective is a little different now than 6-8 weeks ago!).Do you have any specific questions? As an OOS, you really need to communicate "Why MN?" and any connections you have to the school/state.

Congratulations on your acceptance! You must be really happy! 😀

Is the interview pretty much conversational or do they have specific questions to drill you on?
I'm afraid that if i'm not very knowledgable on whatever specific question that they drill me on, it won't leave a very good impression. I'm very nervous because Minnesota is definitely one of my top choices and I don't want to screw it up...

They do have specific questions to ask you, but they are all about you and your experiences. This makes it slightly more difficult to get a good conversation going because they are trying to hit all the points on their list. However, my interviewers tried to make it more conversational. The first interviewer does see your file, so they may even have specific questions prepared for you! Be sure to look over the website, focusing on what the school looks for in a medical student. Think about how your experiences fit into these qualities. My theory is that if you are a good fit for the school, your experiences will already fit well into these qualities and it will be easy to show admissions why you would be a good addition to their school. You have made it to the interview, so they must like you. Now you just have to show them what makes you unique and sets you apart from all the other applicants.

Ahhhh I see. That makes sense, I will try to look up their website and see how I best fit. Thank you so much!!! That was very helpful!!

I'm an OOS and just got accepted together with the scholarship to pay in-state tuition. It's definitely possible. You just have to let them know that you truly want to go there.

Anyone happen to know the TC and UMD-specific OOS stats for Applications-to-Interviews-to-Acceptances-to-Matriculants?

MSAR neither gives them separated nor gives acceptance statistics.

Anyone else interviewing on 11/19?

EDIT: I'm especially wondering if there are Native Americans who will be interviewing that day, besides me.

wow that's so good! Congratulations!
I think there are definitely a lot of OOS applicants this year. At least in my interview group, there was only 1 native grown Minnesotan and the rest are OOS.

I would be very interested in seeing this too.

I haven't been very successful with my carpooling attempts, but I'm heading up to the Cities to interview on December 6. If anyone else coming from or through southeast/south central MN wants to share a ride, let me know.

I am in Minneapolis following my Mayo interview and I am kicking myself in the ass for not applying to U Minn. Is their secondary competitive or will they take my money no matter what? I'm OOS so I understand that applying is kind of unreasonable at this point.

I would give it a try. A friend of mine got an interview in March last year.

Oh heck, somehow I thought it was still before the November 15 deadline. TIme for more coffee. At least Minneapolis isn't too much of a drive from Rochester if I get in there. Good luck everyone!

Oh never mind. I guess there are only two of us interviewing on 11/19.

Talk about a very personal interview 😛

For the curious, here are some numbers, though I have no idea how reputable they are since I just found them on a random website. This is TC/Duluth campus combined, Percents are recorded as (% prev, % total).

Total admissions data

3444 applied , 505 interviewed (15%, 15%) , 367
were accepted (73%, 11%), 229 enrolled (62%, 7%)

In-state admissions data
985 applied, 337 interviewed (34%, 34%), 272
were accepted (81%, 28%), 200 enrolled (74%, 20%)

Out-of-state admissions data
2459 applied, 168 interviewed (7%!!!, 7%), 95
were accepted (57%, 4%), 29 enrolled (31%, 1.2%!!!)

Wow, being out of state looks pretty bleak. Good luck, everyone!

...For the curious, here are some numbers, though I have no idea how reputable they are since I just found them on a random website. This is TC/Duluth campus combined, Percents are recorded as (% prev, % total)...

1) I think most interview dates are about ten or less applicants... My two interviews here have had 4 and 7 each.

2) Those numbers seem wrong... But I don't have an MSAR. I think the MSAR numbers were posted earlier in this thread.

1) Ah, I didn't know that (did not interview here). My friend who did said it was small, I didn't think it was that small. That's pretty neat. 🙂

2) They don't line up perfectly with the MSAR, but are within a couple of spots on each cutoff. I don't think they're this past year's stats. Like I said, found it online, but they look pretty accurate as a whole. Last year had over 4,000 applications (the posted have ~3500), so if anything, it's more competitive than shown.

Very interesting stats. Yay for being IS haha. Now if I could just get a call lol. Approaching 9 weeks post TC interview. Sigh..

I'm telling you, you just have to assume they mean 8-12 weeks. 😀

I'm sitting at 7 weeks post-interview, but I'll start panicking when I hit 13 weeks--or get the little envelope.

I vote TC just gives us both acceptances now and calls it par for the course 😀

Good luck to you and others waiting to hear back. I finaly hit a stroke of luck - Duluth acceptance last week and TC II today! For a number of reasons, including plans to practice RFM, Duluth has always been my top choice. That said, I know that studying on the TC campus would also afford me this opportunity and there are more research opportunities there. I'm excited as all get out to get a first-hand look.

Anyway, I'm hoping those who have already interviewed can tell me what time they ask you to be there and when the day wraps up. Thanks!

Wow, OOS sure has low interview invite rates... Thank goodness I got an interview...
My group had 9 people, and I was the only girl. Talk about pressure. Lol

It was over a week for me. I ended up calling after 4 days, and they sent me a tentative date confirmation, but I didn't get the official one for another 4 days.

Thanks. I guess I can stop checking my email every 30 minutes. Luckily I live in Minneapolis so most of their dates work for me

Congrats! And thanks! I'm so relieved that I am finally able to interview at my alma mater.

...And given your user name, if you are accepted I fully expect you to get student tickets for hockey. 😀

Thank you! I agree, it would be a good idea for them to give you a good number! 👍

There isn't one, but sometimes I really think that there should be. How did your interview go?
