I can personally attest to the fact that numbers are not everything. While I don't have top flight numbers myself, in discussion with the former dean of admissions, they absolutely consider applications holistically. You can have a perfect MCAT and GPA, but if you're missing other things or the committee sees a deficit elsewhere, they'll take that into consideration.

It sounds like chajjohnson has the whole package, maybe he/she just didn't communicate experiences well. Who knows.

Interviewed last week (IS). Would love to go here! Hoping for some good news in the next 6-12 weeks...

the U is big on exposure to medicine. if you havent had substantial interaction in a medical setting (i know you said you did hospice) that could have been it. they have said many times numbers + research doesnt cut it. you need to show that you have developed an understanding medicine, through shadowing, working/volunteering in medical environments, etc.

I'm by no means saying that's what the problem is, but just pointing this out so everyone doesn't think numbers are everything. For all we know, it could have also been a bad letter of rec or something, lol

Thanks! Very helpful!

Anybody know if the FB group is up and running yet?

Do acceptance calls usually come on a certain day of the week? has it really been 3 weeks since the last reported one? ahhhhh

Typically Wednesdays. At least that's been the pattern this cycle.

Yup, for at least the last 3 rounds of acceptances they've been on Wednesdays. It's been a pretty long time since the last round, though.

So I'll be choosing between Duluth and the Twin Cities. I'm interested in primary care and community/population health is important to me. Does anyone have thoughts on comparing the campuses in terms of public health integration into the curriculum and opportunities for social medicine?

oos ii this week (complete late Nov)
VERY excited about their flexible program. Cant wait to visit twin cities!🙂

It is. There should be a link to it in the email they send you. Then the admins have to approve you. took like two days for me.

I heard of one acceptance given out this week. I guess no SDN members got the call tho? 🙁

I was accepted to the Twin Cities on Wednesday (exactly 8 weeks after interviewing)! I didn't actually get a phone call, but received an email from my student interviewer congratulating me on my recent acceptance. I recently switched phone numbers, so I'm guessing the admission's office didn't update my info. It was the best email I've ever received. I did call to confirm, however 🙂

Good luck to everyone waiting to hear back!

IS, interviewed 12/07/12

Congrats! Next week will be 8 weeks after my interview for me. Also IS. Hoping to hear some good news soon.

It looks like OOS and IS are definitely on different timelines though. I've heard most OOS acceptances and waitlists are going out later than 8 weeks post-interview. A friend received an acceptance (OOS) at about 12 weeks a bit ago.

Can I ask your stats please?

I'm hoping the IS timeline sticks to 8 weeks haha

Haha, agreed. Being outside of the deliberation, I can't imagine what makes AdComs (not just Minnesota's) take so long to accept post-interview. I know the quantity of interviewers is higher than other professions, but most programs (e.g. PT/PhD) take less than a week to get back to you. Some are even the next day!

Basically what I'm saying is they're about as anxious to get through the applications as I am to study for my history test.

So if I just interviewed as OOS, I'm not going to hear back until mid April? I heard there's only about 20 spots left...

I heard back from a few other schools less than two weeks after my interviews. I don't know what the U is doing haha

I received the interview date confirmation email, but no information about student host.
Does the U have a student host program? Or do they expect us to count on our own?

You should have queried about hosting with your date request email. However, they should still be able to hook you up if you email them.

Has there been any out of state movement? There haven't seemed to be any SDNers reporting anything since early November and late October interviews...

Since that's like, three months ago, is that really the incubation period on post-interview decisions now? 🙁

I interviewed at the end of November and was accepted 4 weeks ago (OOS).

Wait listed via snail mail today. Interviewed @ Tc on 12/14.

Thanks! I have a friend who interviewed OoS back in early November and still hasn't heard (good or bad) about it. That seemed abnormally long to me, even for the U.

I was accepted last week to UMN! So ridiculously pumped. I haven't scrolled through this whole thread, but does anyone know if there's like an official accepted student page? I'm really anxious to apply to the med frats, but would also like to start meeting future classmates!!!!

Good luck to everyone still waiting! :luck:

oh baby, just got the acceptance package yesterday 🙂

to everyone who is still waiting to hear a decision, i know what it feels like. this is my second time applying and i was rejected from the U during my first application cycle. once you get that large envelope in the mail not just from here, but from any school, you'll realize it was worth the wait. go gophers!

December 10! I've been told that (a) MN is notoriously slow and (b) if you interview before/during the pseudo-holiday season, 6-8 weeks turns into 8-10-don'tbealarmedifit's12.....!

I got an interview invite from Duluth three weeks after I submitted my secondary. The interview was 3 weeks after the invite. That's pretty quick I think.

Otherwise, I do hear that TC is pretty slow. But taking the time to read and consider applications isn't always a bad thing.

Just got the acceptance call!!! IS. Interviewed 1/25 so I wasn't expecting anything for another 4 or 5 weeks. Needless to say it was a pleasant surprise for an otherwise boring Wednesday.
