Seemed like the students here were more concerned with being good doctors instead of gunning to be at the top of the class.

Man your Mother's day comment got me. I also have a mother who would love to see me to home for school. And I definitely feel your comment about it being sort of good news in a way. I had similar feelings when I got waitlisted at other schools.

Congrats on your acceptance elsewhere and best of luck!

I think you have a really good shot with a 52. Fwiw, I think you'll be home for med school.

Withdrew my acceptance today 🙁. This was the hardest decision of the cycle but financially it just doesn't make sense.... Oh well, I hope someone from this thread gets the spot, good luck to everyone still waiting!

Was anyone rejected (as in not ranked)? It seems like they wait listed almost all of the people that didn't get accepted. So did they rank 300 people or what? I'm killing time by worrying about this until I get my letter today or tomorrow.

The original waitlist letter I received seemed to allude to the possibility that you might not be ranked, but I'm not sure if that's actually the case.

I know of multiple people who were rejected off the waitlist before they sent out the ranked alternate list.

Thanks, mine was similar. I wonder if they actually rejected more people post interview than SDN reflected.

Oh, well that explains it then. Thank you. Congrats on the 11 by the way, ericksonj15!

So is a ranking like 11 pretty much mean that it will lead to an acceptance?

Unless something is drastically different this year, the answer is yes. Previous years were around 50-60.

I guess we will know more about the status of the waitlist early this week....hopefully something isn't drastically different this year

Does anybody know when the movement will start? maybe based on past years? you don't think they'll wait until May 27th, or whatever the date was on the form to accept your spot?

If SDN threads from the past two application cycles provide any guide, a good deal of movement could start any day now. 2010-2011 cycle: number 31 on the wait list accepted by 5/16. 2011-2012 cycle: number 26 on the wait list was accepted by 5/16.

Thanks a lot! Even though past years have got to the 50-60 range I'm not celebrating yet, just staying cautiously optimistic. If this whole process has taught me anything, it's to not count your chickens before they hatch. Good luck to everyone else this week, hopefully there's some major waitlist movement again!

Ya and I think that is what they look for in alot of applicants, seeing as how people with very high stats and scores are low on the waitlist. I had a 3.7 and 30 but got accepted a few months ago, maybe I am an exception though. So for those applying in future years just make sure you know why you want to be a doctor and show those reasons through your extracurricular activities instead of worrying too much about tests.

That is wise.

Got my letter just now - high number, unfortunately. Will be withdrawing from the alternate list. Obviously bummed, but I hope the next few months bring joy to those waiting near the top.

Just withdrew my acceptance. Good luck to all of you!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you to everyone that is posting status type updates here. Best of luck to everyone taking acceptances elsewhere. I'm sure you would've been great additions to the U's class of 2017 - for which I am on the wait list.

Also wondering.....how long do you get to make a decision once taken off the waitlist?

Did anyone else not get their waitlist number yet? The overly-anxious pre-med side of me is getting concerned.

Ummm 155. That's good right? Just kidding, time to start reapplying. Good luck to all.

Sorry to hear that. If it makes you feel better, I was rejected by the U last year (no interview) but was accepted this year (no wait list). Good luck and I wish you the best!

Finally got my letter here on the East coast - Lucky #13! This will be my first (fingers crossed still) and only acceptance. (MN is my home state and went to UMN for undergrad - it is def my first choice school.)

Wishing everyone else the best of luck!

Sorry, I posted thanking posters for status updates and I didn't include my wait list details. #31, with the U being my first choice over my only other acceptance.

Thanks. I think next year will be better. I've done a lot in the past year to improve my clinical experience, which was almost none exsistant this time. I'm just really disappointed that 3 schools of such high quality interviewed me and I didn't get a single acceptance. Let round two begin! Have fun next year guys and live up the summer.

That's what made the difference for me IMO.

Has anyone else tried the hotline number yet? I foolishly tried on Friday afternoon, but was instead routed to someone's voicemail. Foolishly again, I left a message, to which I have not yet received a response ha.

Is this how the hotline was in previous years? As we approach May 15th, I wanna know where I stand!

It worked for me, dial 1 1 4 after you call the number. They put a new message up yesterday for this year saying the original number 1 is still the number 1.

Oh thank you for the update! I suspect with most letters only going out on Friday and Saturday, most people have not yet sent back the letter accepting the waitlist spot.

I suppose that means more waiting! Its funny how several weeks can go by easily when you aren't expecting to hear news, but since getting my number, every day seems to tick by slowly as I wonder if they'll get above 50 this year!

What do you guys thing of a # like 75?

I am really disappointed that I was placed at a high # 🙁

Does anyone know if they need to get the blue sheet back (the notification that you accept your spot on the waitlist) before they can accept you from the waitlist?

Not sure. I didn't want to take any chances and I spent a few extra bucks at the post office to make sure it got from the north metro to Minneapolis in 1 day with delivery confimation

Sorry to ask again, but can anyone please tell me how long you have to accept your decision once taken off the waitlist??

When you call the number to find the current acceptance spot on the alternative waitlist, do you talk to a person or does a machine tell you?

Its a voice message, though its still mondays message right now

I think it might start later this year based on how behind they have been the entire process.

Well the waitlist number letter came out on Friday and Saturday and said to return it by May 28th.

If they give everyone until May 28th to accept their number then they can't really start moving through the list until they hear back from everyone correct?

we will not have to wait until May 28th. They will offer positions as spots open up, which begs the question are there any spots since there has been no movement yet?

Well 3 people posted about withdrawing on here in the last few days, but I suppose if they overfilled the class this year it's possible that there's no spots. I can't imagine they would fill the waitlist with over 150 people though if that were the case, but who knows...

yes that is true. I wish someone could enlighten us with what is going on

Well they finally updated the hotline, and they haven't offered any spots. Original #1 is still #1...this is very different from last year's movement...

They also sent out rankings a few days earlier last year. I hope that's the only reason for the delay :X

It makes since that #1 is still #1. I would assume they're not going to start accepting people off the waitlist until May 28. What if #1 or #2 or #3 doesn't return their form until March 28? They're not going to pass them up.

After speaking with the admissions office, I confirmed that they will NOT wait until May 28th to offer spots, rather they will make acceptances as vacancies arise

Thanks for the info! Although if they are offering spots only as they open up, its looking like they are going to stay pretty low on the waitlist this year then. By this time last year they were already into the 20s right?

I wouldn't look too much into the timing, I think it's likely they're just a little behind this year given they have been with most everything else thus far. Seems to me there isn't much of a reason, outside of natural variation from year to year (and increasing competition for spots everywhere) that waitlist movement won't be similar to years past (even if slightly reduced). Given that the U was offering spots to people off the waitlist as late a May 3rd, which previous posts seem to indicate, it stands to reason they haven't drastically overfilled the class this year or why would they be taking people who were waitlisted so late in the year? At least this is the reasoning I'm using to quell my fears...lets hope it stands up. I guess the next couple weeks will tell...
