Anyone know when we have to accept financial aid by?

I was accepted as of the 14th. Thanks to people who withdrew. I was #10 on the list.

I called and talked with Alison Martin on Tuesday and she said they have taken 34 people from the waitlist as of that afternoon. Maybe somebody else can call next week and ask again!

She also gave me my exact number on the waitlist which was unexpected!

If you don't mind me asking, which third were you on? I emailed Alison and she wouldn't tell me which exact number I was. Perhaps if I called and asked where they were on the wait list, then asked which spot I was, she would tell me.

I am in the middle third. I called and asked how many people have been pulled from the wait list and she asked my name and told me my number and how many have been taken.

Thanks. Is that a standard amount?
Yeah, they always take 96 and wait list 96. Good news for future applicants is that they will expand the class to 128 some time soon. The state approved funds to have 32 M3/M4's go to Springfield for those last two years, allowing the school to take 128 instead of 96. Too bad they couldn't have gotten that done for this year!

Anyone have any guesses when that will happen?

The article I read said it could be as early as the 2015 entering class. However, I heard directly from a member of the AdCom that the reps in Springfield were pushing to up it to 128 this year, so by 2015 they would have a group of M3's ready to go down there. I don't think that will happen, and if it did, I am assuming they would just go off the wait list. Apparently there is ~$30 million that needs to be allocated to add on to Mizzou's med school to accommodate the extra students. I would think this would be the biggest delay, and can't imagine it would take effect this year, but like I said this came from a member of the AdCom.

😍😍😍 this! even more motiviation for my pesky mcat

Is anyone planning on doing the Medprep III primer things? Also, do any current students have any opinions about them?

Mixed reviews on how helpful they are. Some students said they were immensely useful while others did not think they were very helpful. Remember that they are NOT required at all. They are simply a tool for students that haven't had this exposure (e.g. English or History majors that have never taken biochemistry) to get some background.

Honestly, I personally think you should travel/make money/do something fun. Once you get into medical school, free time becomes a precious commodity. I think you should spend it however you want. You'll spend enough time studying once you get here. But this is my personal opinion and not necessarily shared by my classmates.

If you are in the facebook group, make a post and my classmates will be sure to give you some input!

M1 here (well, maybe M2 now). I never took Medprep because I'm lazy and wanted to spend my summer goofing off. Apparently it's a pretty good basic prep for biochem so that you don't come to class the first few weeks and be completely confused. One thing that you guys should all know is usually at other med schools, their first week consists of "this is a cell and these are the different organelles", whereas at Mizzou they assume that you have the basics (due to the time constraint of a PBL curriculum) and go straight into molecular signaling pathways and carbohydrate metabolism. From what I've heard from my classmates who are biochem majors, it's essentially an entire year of biochem condensed into 5x1 hour lectures.

So it's kind of a toss up. On one hand Medprep is supposed to be super helpful, on the other hand you could totally spend your summer actually doing fun things and saving yourself $275.

Anyone have any idea of where the wait list is at?
