Hang tight for the next month! There is only one week of interviews left, and then the committee can make some final decisions about how many people to admit. I suspect that Pitt will still be somewhat cautious, but I would think that more initial acceptance offers will be made than in years past.

Best of luck to everyone waiting. 🙂

Pitt, stop sending us emails! My adrenal glands cannot handle this! AAAAAAAHHH.

Just for funsies, I just noticed a giant UPMC billboard in The Dark Knight Rises, didn't know they were expanding into Gotham 😀

Haha yeah that was at Heinz Field. Nice little advertising 😉

They filmed on campus two summers ago, everyone was flocking to see Bane and the batmobile 🙂 2-3 movies are filmed every year in Pittsburgh, often close to campus, and they usually call for students as paid extras. Some of my classmates got to be extras in that Channing Tatum/Steve Carrell wrestling movie that's coming out sometime in the future.

Saw the big UPMC building in the opening of Jack Reacher

anyone know where to send updated transcripts so that they make it into our file?

Thanks!

On the Pitt application site (where you submitted your secondary) there should be an FAQ section. One of those Q's is about sending updates, and it gives you instructions on how to do so.

all of this Pitt awesomeness is hyping me up to be super crushed when I get rejected :/ January 31st is creepin up

has the appearance of the secondary app changed for everyone? with a new "learning style survey" tab?

Interviews are done!
Hang in there - the wait is almost over. 🙂

Yes, the last interview day was Friday.

No more free lunches

Guaranteed admit days? Are we allowed to eat lunch with the hs kids? Their parents might be there...

I still have some Scaifeteria cards left though. 😎

Thankfully their parents aren't there. I actually don't remember whether we had lunch with them last yr or not. It's awkward enough talking to a 17 year old whose entire life has been pointed toward medical school and has done a ton more than you have and you're in medical school. I just wanted to tell them not to worry and go enjoy college!

So, any of the lovely Pitt people here feel like striking up a conversation with some adcoms and half way through give them wink and a nudge and inquire as to how many straight admits they were looking to do with the new set up this year?

call 'em continuously from an anonymous number and harass them until they tell you :naughty:

Via snail mail, right?

I was pretty sure it was email. She said something about we need to add Pittsburgh admissions in contacts cuz they're gonna send a mass email and our email might put it in junk mail 🙂

Last year it was email followed by a hard copy sent to your permanent address.

Good luck guys! 2 more weeks!

These two weeks are about to be extremely grueling, I don't even have exams to take my mind off this yet

Yeah, I don't recall a time.

To be clear, do we all get decisions on this day or do we start to get decisions from 1/31 onward?

Oh gawd, I must know this or I'm gonna be devastated if I don't hear back from UPSOM on the 31st 🙁

I didn't know they gave us an exact time 😱

Yeah, I don't recall a time.

Yeah the email didn't give us a time and made it seem like they start accepting on the 1/31 via snail mail. Directly from the email:

"it was decided that the first round of admissions decisions will be mailed on January 31, 2013 rather than December 1, 2012."

I was under the impression they said they would start releasing decisions the 31st, but there's like a final response date on the 14th or something. I don't know if they'll be releasing them in waves throughout that time period.

If they made the change to non-rolling and made everyone wait (some nearing in on 6 months), they better not dare release their decisions in "waves"! 😡

Of course, I say this with absolutely no authority/leverage in the matter. 😛

Anyone have a clue as to when they're having their committee meeting for the acceptance round on the 31st? Are updates/LOIs suggested before/after this happens, or wait until you hear back first?

I'd send in any LOI's or updates now, but that's just my personal recommendation as I have no idea what the committee is doing. I highly doubt there is going to be one meeting about acceptances, probably several meetings over the next couple weeks as there were 700+ interviews.

I was under the impression (and I could be totally wrong) that they've been making decisions and ranking applicants throughout the season. It's unlikely that they would be able to review and decide on 800+ applicants within a couple weeks of receiving the last interview reviews. Personally, I would hold off on sending an update letter until after you find out your decision, because it's unlikely to make a big difference now. As you can see, though, there's no one hard-set rule to the system! If Ismet's right and they haven't finalized many decisions yet, then a big update/LOI now could help you out.

Good luck all.

Yeah, they have been reviewing throughout the season, I didn't mean they would completely review everyone in these two weeks. They said that last year they were constantly re-reviewing the people on the waitlist to consider them for acceptance, so I was just assuming these next two weeks will be brief re-reviews, even if just for the people they're "on the fence" about. (Disclaimer: all speculation!)

My mentality is that it really can't hurt to send in an update now. They'll stick it in your file. Worst case scenario is that your fate has already been set and you just wasted some paper/postage/internet space sending your update. Best case scenario is that they open your file to re-review and it makes a difference. Just my 2 cents.

I'm just... hesitant... to send an update letter. The last two times I've sent one right before a decision I was waitlisted. Yet for another (and 'higher up') school, I never sent thank yous, LOIs, or updates and was accepted outright 🙄 I'll probably send one anyways, but if I got waitlisted I wouldn't have any significant updates to follow and I feel like I'd get redundant in another LOI... that would be sad.

The types of research that Pitt has going on, the massive network of hospitals that literally takes over the city, the vibe I got there... it really has me intrigued with Pitt, and I don't want to blow my luck! :meanie: I know there are positives and negatives that I'd eventually have to weigh like everyone else, but I'm hoping for good news at the end of Jan!

Did anyone figure out the significance of the holiday cards?? I'm not sure if everyone who applied or interviewed got them. There was one around Thanksgiving and another around Christmas with the 'intentionality' promise inside. I interviewed in early November. Thanks!

Best of luck to everyone!

I think the one for Christmas was only sent to minority students.

I never got a Christmas card, I did really enjoy the Thanksgiving card though, am I missing something?
