First Tier Waitlist as well!

oh well, I won't be holding my breath!

Don't get too bummed about a waitlist, especially if you're on the first tier. I suspect that Pitt will still have a lot of waitlist movement this year. If you really want to come here, convey that to the admissions committee.

I'm sorry to those that got rejected. 🙁 Best of luck at other schools!

I don't have my MSAR near me, can anyone tell me what the class size is at Pitt?

Thanks!

Second tier waitlist--a bit bummed, but still hoping for good news in the spring...

Hey guys, if your status didn't change yet, you might have been accepted. No one has said they were accepted, yet (I think? I just woke up). Fingers crossed for you!

Is second tier waitlist a death sentence? 🙁

Anyone know how the first tier / second tier wait list works?

I'm on the second tier, does that mean I won't get selected off the list until they pick all of the first tier students first?

Anyone have any statistic on what the chances are for getting off the wait list in previous years?

After May 15, can you be enrolled at a school and still be selected off the wait list?

First-Tier Waitlist. Just checked my status, no e-mail. 🙁 I supposed there is still hope.

Ha, I don't know. I just got wait listed, too. I was just hazarding a guess.

I am really disappointed because I apparently I have a ticket for the wait list train. But on the other hand, I had a double ear and sinus infection during my interview, got four hours of sleep, and was flying on cold medicine, so I'm just happy they didn't reject my seemingly crazy ass.

You can definitely be enrolled at a school and choose another school upon getting off the wait list. You can even send a declaration of intent to the school that waitlisted you and that's completely kosher.

Who would I send a letter of intent to? Would it just be the general [email protected]? Sorry, just a combination of me being super duper neurotic and really wanting to get in...

I'm assuming that they gave out few acceptances (not out yet), first tier waitlists are for people to be hopeful, second tier is for the typical "we don't want you but don't want to reject you" and the reject is the very few they were like, "nope."?

I wish when they did this stuff they'd inform applicants of the numbers from each group. Hopefully admissions will inform us via FB/Twitter. 90+ people in this thread....

Personally, I would send it to your faculty interviewer. They should continue to be your advocate for admission, if you made them like you. If you don't think that's a good idea, then send it to the general e-mail, though I think the former option may be more effective.

I'm assuming you have inside information... Does the faculty interviewer still have admissions committee influence? I thought they submitted their evaluation and then they were done. In that case, wouldn't it make more sense to send it to the admissions office to get it put on your general application for when the re-review?

Hey everyone!
Sorry about all the waitlist decisions 🙁

I have numbers to share with all of you!
First year class size (MSAR): 146
# accepted 2012 (US News): 356 (957 interviews that year)
# Interviewed 2013 (UPSOM Facebook): 846

If they only accept 146 in this go-around, expect over 200 waitlist offers... Is there a third tier waitlist? Assuming not, with 700 spaces above the class size, probably 1/3 first tier, 1/3 second tier, 1/3 rejected, so 233 in each. (or maybe heavily waitlist and few reject)

Maybe that gives people an idea of where they stand?

Not sure why I'm on top of all these forums for other schools, but just trying to help!

As far as I know, there is no third tier waitlist (from the responses thus far). Looks like 1st, 2nd, and rejected.

But that's what I'm assuming as well, though without numbers, so thanks 😛 I would assume that less than 1/3 were rejected though, for some reason schools are scared of outright rejecting students. I would expect more people were put in the 1st and 2nd tier waitlist rather than the rejected.

Unfortunately that means if you didn't make the cut for the first tier wait list, it's likely that your chances of admission would still be abysmal. 🙁 But this is all just speculation

Hopefully we'll get some clarification from UPSOM when the e-mail comes out, or through FB/Twitter.

Totally your call. I've been in contact with my interviewer via e-mail several times after my interview to talk about hometowns and her children, and she would be the first person I'd go to if I was wait-listed. (My status is not available yet.) I always prefer to address an e-mail to an actual person rather than the "Office of Admissions" or the "Admissions Committee." But I'll hold off giving you more advice until I figure out if you and I are competing for the same spot.😉😀 Welcome to the WAITLIST HUNGER GAMES!! Jajajaja...

IIRC , there are instructions in the FAQ in the applicant center for sending letters/updates.

My status hasn't changed either.

Considering the only thing that isn't out yet is an acceptance (both wait list and rejection have been), I'd be cautiously optimistic!

I want to believe this so much. Hopefully you're right!

Yup.

When is it an appropriate time for me to follow-up with the UPSOM?
Our Admissions Committee welcomes letters of intent/interest and updates to your application. The most appropriate time to follow-up with us is following your interview or after the receipt of your official admissions decision. Communications can be sent via postal mail or to our admissions mailbox at [email protected]. Any communication received from the applicant will be included in their admissions file.

For those curious

I'm supposed to go take a test right now, and all I can think about is how many got acceptances and what the odds are for getting pulled off this WL. 🙁

Considering we're now over 100 users in this thread, I can't be alone 😆

Edit: Also, thanks Pitt thread for making us crack the 2k mark 🙂

maybe these decisions are all trolling and they haven't dispatched the real ones by email yet. it could be a huge practical joke by the admissions office to mess with everybody on SDN.

or i'm just crazy 😛

Rejections are acceptances, second tier waitlist is first tier, and first tier is rejection 😀

Wangers, didn't you withdraw here? Just enjoying the delirium of this 100+ user thread?

I did withdraw haha, but I remember them mentioning Jan 31 at the interview day and wanted to see the craziness of a nonrolling decision on SDN, since this would have been my first one. The true beauty of nonrolling admissions is that all of us premeds come together for a full day of commiserating, and that in itself is why SDN is such a wonderful forum 😍

Hey all! Just wanted to say not to let a waitlist decision disappoint you too much. I know how it feels all too well to wait for a date and then get waitlisted, but just keep in mind that the majority of the school got in off the waitlist. You never know when that surprise email could come!

I think our class started out at 148.

For update letters/LOIs, follow the directions on the website. Anything you send to your interviewer will just be forwarded to the admissions office to be added to your file anyway. I don't think Pitt has the faculty interviewer sit in on admissions decisions, but I could be wrong.

Edit: Also, I'm just speculating here, but around this time last year (first week of Feb) was when they started pulling people off the waitlist. Maybe they'll do the same this year

I'm surprised there's not more panic, but without any acceptances out maybe they're just waitlisting everyone again. 🙄

Think of the combined intelligence of this thread right now. Who wants to cure cancer?

This is what I believe as well. I wasn't told otherwise, at least. My faculty interviewer told me that they just submitted a report and were done. To me, that'd seem like they have no influence on the decision post-interview evaluation submission. This sounds like the most common theme too.

And the number keeps getting bigger, I wonder what the high is?

Haha I would totally send a letter of intent today, but I'm afraid that the last thing [email protected] needs on a day like today is one of those :meanie:

Yeah, I'd hold off a bit. I can only imagine the mess that is the admissions office today, especially when far more applicants are waitlisted or rejected than accepted...

Didn't Stanford actually do this once? I thought they sent our rejection emails to all their acceptances on accident.

I know Cornell accidentally accepted everybody once, but I don't remember hearing about Stanford's mishap 😱

Can you come here and just say that over and over in a soothing voice? 🙂

Just checked my page and saw the acceptance. Great feeling. Good luck to everyone here!
