ACCEPTED!! Can't believe it! Yes, apparently the delayed status was a good thing. Good luck to those on the waitlist--fingers crossed for plenty of movement this year.

Application Status

Congratulations on your acceptance to the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Official correspondence should arrive at your preferred mailing address listed on your AMCAS application within two weeks.

ANOTHER SCHOOL ANOTHER DOLLAH

Holy ****! Accepted!

My first acceptance... I'm going to be a doctor... omg omg omg

Love you Pitt!

Congratulations (potential) future classmates! You've got a friend in me.

Pitt was so nurturing when I visited and I know I would be so happy. The only downside could be Pittsburgh weather for this Hawaii boy, but we'll have to make pros and cons lists later.

Now to FIESTA!!!!!

On another note, does this mean my new favorite team is the Steelers??!!

Having gone to Pitt, the Steelers do grow on you.

Congrats!

Accepted just now by status update!!! Soo excited 🙂

First, congratulations to all of those who have been accepted! Woohoo! Second, hang in there everyone waiting on waitlist!

I am looking forward to meeting some of you at second look for U Pitt!

Do they pull off of the first-tier waitlist randomly or is there a ranking within the tiers?

First acceptance after several waitlists. Read my app status five times to make sure it is true....Thank you PITT!!

second tier waitlist 🙁 but had the worst interview this season with the faculty interviewer at Pitt, so kind of expected

First tier waitlist. Not going to play the game, withdrew. Good luck everyone else with Pitt! :luck:

I agree with this guy. Everyone on the first-tier waitlist should withdraw. I'll stay on it just to make sure they get the message.

If anyone could chime in on how many people were accepted/1st tiered/2nd tiered/rejected that'd be fantastic. Thanks

Before your post, I counted and we have..

11 Acceptances
15 1st Tier Waitlists
7 2nd Tier Waitlists
2 Rejections

Not very informative, unfortunately. And SDN isn't always the best representative of the general pool 😛

2nd tiered. Very disappointed. Would love to know what it exactly means to be "further considered by the committee in spring".

From the numbers, as a guestimate (1/20 post on SDN), it looks like 2nd tier is a death sentence if they go linearly through first tier to second tier. Did they do this tier system in the past? And how rigid are rankings?

I actually thought my interviews went well here. Guess I'll expect nothing and move on 🙁

But congrats, everyone!

Yes, to echo what Blais said, after almost 4 years in Pittsburgh I despise the Steelers even more. 😀

They said in my status update that first-tier waitlist people will have higher priority, but not necessarily be the only ones looked at to pull from - you never know! I'm curious as to whether this tier system existed before as well.

Personally, I'll be drafting and sending an interest letter in the next week-ish once this initial furor dies down. It looks like they accepted a good chunk of people now, but hopefully they still pull generously from the waitlist. I would really love to go here.

Didn't have a tier system last year. At least I don't remember. I too got pulled from the wait list.

I got accepted!!

This was my best experience during the interview season, really, really excited about this one. Waiting on a couple of other schools, and finances are definitely going to come into play.

Any current students know about scholarships, etc., at Pitt? I don't really remember them saying much about that on interview day.

^typical sdn pessimism  Sdn is far from a representative sample. I was second tiered as well, but this is a tough school and I i didn't send loi or even an update so that was expected. My guess is that it is the same as every other school every other year.....the waitlist has a ton of variability, and it completely depends on what kind of year it ends up being, with people on the first tier having a better chance than the second, and the only "death sentence" being a rejection.

I don't think I'm the best in an interview, but for what its worth there seem to be a lot of wait-listing going on from my end.... 36. 3.7. 1 acceptance. 4 waitlists 1 rejection

If I get waitlisted at UCSF in the coming weeks, I don't know how I'm going to react...

First of all, congratulations to those accepted!! :highfive:

It seems as if the admissions committee has remained as conservative as they've been in the past, despite the change to non-rolling. I know it's very disappointed to be put on the waitlist, but it's by no means a death sentence! They did not have a tiered WL last year (if they did, we didn't know about it) so it's hard to predict how this will play out. Sorry, but I don't have any inside info from admissions. My guess is that those on the first tier WL stand an excellent chance to be pulled off in the coming months. Being placed on the second tier WL is also by no means a death sentence. You weren't rejected for a reason.

** It's only been the first day of acceptances, don't lose hope so quickly!! **

There are going to be people who don't want to play the waitlist game and withdraw, and of course those who will withdraw their acceptance for high priority schools, freeing up spots for those willing to wait it out. If you want to attend, be proactive about it. Make sure to send updates and/or a letter of intent. As for scholarships, I don't believe they offered merit scholarships last year, only need-based. I would expect the same for this year, but I can't say with any confidence.

This is the first year with the new system, so I do not know exactly how it will work out. It seems as though there are more initial acceptances, which likely means that there will be less (but still substantial) waitlist movement. I do not know if the rankings are fluid or set in stone. I presume that the first tier waitlist will be used before the second tier, but if you are seriously interested in Pitt and on the second tier, it cannot hurt to send update letters. The waitlist movement will likely start when the number of people holding acceptances dips below the number of available seats (roughly 140, given the 2 OMFS and 5-6 guaranteed admit students in each class of 148). Last year there were spurts of acceptances throughout the spring, especially in mid-May.

If anyone has questions, feel free to post here or PM me or one of my awesome classmates. 🙂

Congrats to those who were accepted! I hope to see you at Second Look as well as in the incoming class! We have some really fun and exciting ideas on the horizon for you.

Congrats to those accepted!

Was 1st tier waitlisted.

Food for thought-
Last year's Pitt thread shows people getting accepted off the waitlist as early as 2/9 (from a quick scan), and it went for a quite a while. Of course, that was under their rolling admissions policy, but still, a lot of waitlist movement will probably occur. I'm guessing people will hold onto their acceptances for at least a couple weeks, so probably around March, they'll see significant movement with the class as people have more final plans with options/financial aid. Good luck! :luck: :luck:

To contribute to the stats, I was rejected as well. This definitely stings because Pitt was my dream school and I felt my interviews went well. It makes me appreciate the waitlist decisions I have at other schools. I dont know what to make of the rejection since this is the 4th bad decision in a row this cycle. I wish I can get some specific advice on why I was rejected, get some closure, and build off of that.

Sorry to dull the mood. Congrats to those accepted and good luck to those on either waitlist! If you play your cards right, you can still possibly get in. Pitt made it a point to differentiate people who don't have a chance at acceptance to those who they still want to keep in consideration. Don't think of the second tier as a death sentence.

When is revisit weekend? I too was 1st tiered - but just for reference it would be cool to know!

2nd tiered, I was actually expecting a rejection since my interview went quite poorly, but this kinda seems like just a delayed one. At least it's something though! Congrats to all those accepted- that's awesome!

Second tiered here, by status update. Still no email though, even in spam.

This week has me feeling down. Waitlisted at NYMC, finally told I was rejected pre-interview from U Penn, and was earlier put on Penn State's hold list. Still have at least 3 more interviews though, so here's hoping.

I totally understand how you feel. Last week I was rejected pre-interview from 2 schools, post-interview from 1, and waitlisted at 1, and now I was waitlisted here. Keep your hopes up. These bumps in the road will only make our acceptances that much more exciting!

Has anyone been notified via e-mail that their application status has been updated, gone to check, and had no such alteration of status?...
