There is a "PittMed class of 2017" Facebook group as well.
For any current students out there: can anyone recommend getting a tablet (ipad or galaxy tab or whatever) versus getting a laptop? I already have a desktop for most of my computer needs, but obviously I can't really take it with me. Would one be better suited than the other for Pitt's curriculum?
Has anyone gotten off the waitlist this week? Is this it?
I just withdrew from the class. Good luck to those waiting - I know how brutal waitlists are... Silver lining- they joy you get once accepted is infinitely more and last waaaaay longer.
I hope you do too! Good luck!!!Hope I get your spot! 🙂
FYI - The class is currently overenrolled.

Did this happen last year?
Not that I'm aware of, but maybe. I know of several of my classmates who were accepted off the waitlist in June/July but technically that can still happen. People are still getting accepted elsewhere and will drop Pitt over the summer. Hopefully they're not too far over enrolled and maybe there can be more waitlist movement yet.
I figured it was over enrolled because we received an e-mail saying that they would gladly consider deferral requests for (any) worthwhile purposes. If the class remains over enrolled at the start of school, will that have any consequences for classes or the longitudinal patient thingy?
I'm guessing that they will do what UofM does and start to offer scholarship packages for students who agree to defer an additional year and matriculate 2014, because I'm pretty sure med school class sizes are strictly capped.
Interesting! I was actually thinking about this while I was in the shower - unless the scholarship is exceptionally generous, it wouldn't be worth it to save money today and lose one year's worth of a physician's salary before retirement. But it's human nature I suppose!

Don't hold your breath for this. My impression was that steps were being taken to accommodate a larger class size.

Penn State Hershey overenrolled last year. They offered a free year of tuition to those who deferred.I'm guessing that they will do what UofM does and start to offer scholarship packages for students who agree to defer an additional year and matriculate 2014, because I'm pretty sure med school class sizes are strictly capped.
Medical students and patients alike may be asked to open their wallets wider as Pitts medical school seeks ways to shore up its budget.
I thought the class size was capped at 148 by the # of people allowed in the anatomy lab based on fire safety? I don't know who I heard that from or if it's even true though.
LR4 will be fun with an even larger class size![]()
If I had an android tablet, would I be able to watch the video lectures through that or am I restricted to iOS devices? I'm debating between an ipad (normal or mini) and a nexus 7 right now (I would consider the Kindle fire hd, but I doubt that is supported). The nexus 7 is cheaper, but if the lectures are better suited to the ipad then I can justify the extra expense.
What are the fitness center hours during the school year? Is there a swimming pool we can use, and what are those hours?
Thanks!
What's the general dress code? Please tell me I won't have to iron anything.
Quick question on financial aid:
In the award letter it says "University of Pittsburgh SOM Need-Based Scholarship (4 year award)."
My question is is that amount listed a lump sum of all the financial aid I will receive all 4 years or the annual award ($XXX for MS1, same amount MS2, etc.).
Thanks for your help, trying to iron out final details.
