I appreciate your link to LizzyM. I just wanted a fresh response to it, I guess I could have looked harder.

I do think the post belongs here though.

good luck and thnx!

There should be a more recent post, as I remember reading it closer to the past weekend from LizzyM, I just don't have the time to find it atm, then again I may have just dreamt it up. Good luck finding a response then!

The school wouldn't think any less of a DO letter. We see and treat them as complete equals..

I would submit whichever letters you believe will be the strongest support of your application.

It has been quiet for a few days on this forum. I wonder when they will send out another round of invites?

I was just recently complete due to a late MCAT, but I sure hope I get one of those suckers soon...every email I get on my phone makes my heart sink...

Samesies, but then it turns out to be Sephora coupons or Expedia, which is subsequently making me hate hygiene and travel. I'm becoming the local bum!

Is anyone interviewing tomorrow and/or going to the social tonight??? some of us MS-1's have a practice anatomy practical until 7:30 so i dont think ill be able to make the social but we're so excited to see you guys tomorrow!!

Reading messages like that make me want to interview. You guys seem like a nice bunch. Too bad I am not interviewing.

Sent via my crappy phone.

I'm interviewing tomorrow and a bit nervous 😳

I agree. The UT-Houston students seem a righteous brood.

The nerves are normal. The interviews are designed to give the school a better idea of who you are as a person, not to grill you.

UTH hosts one of the best interview days in Texas. Good luck! :luck:

Don't be nervous at all! The interview day here is a lot of fun and very laid back. We'll be sure you all are taken care of with everything. Go to the social tonight if you can also. Like vlk2008 said, a lot of us MS1s just finished our practice practical so we'll be there to hang out and tell you anything you want to know about UTH.

It's just practice... go out tonight 😉

Hopefully I can poke my head in on the interview lunch or tours.

Good luck tomorrow, everyone. Welcome to Houston, please feel free to ask any students for help or about any questions you have. We're a good group of people, we'd love to talk with you.

Yea. Idk what's going on! I really want a Houston I interview. I've been checking here for any sign of interview rounds but no luck 🙁

I check my email first thing in the morning and every 15 minutes on my phone. One of these days...

I got an email on my phone the other day. I checked the subject line and it said UTMB School of Medicine, my heart started racing and I got all pumped up!

"We have received your application, thank you"

Heart = broken

Today would be a good day to send out interview invites if they stick to the 3 week rule so stay on the lookout and don't give up hope!

When did you submit? I haven't received a confirmation yet, and I was transmitted in mid-May.

Primary transmitted 6/20, MCAT received by TMDSAS 8/29, and health professions packet received 9/4.

I'm sure it will come soon dude.

By the way did you get a confirmation email from UTHSCSA, A&M or Texas Tech-Lubbock? Havent got those yet...

Just interviewed here today. Fantastic experience! I highly recommend going to the social the night before. When I went, apparently all the MS1s had just finished their first practice anatomy practical of the year and they showed up in full force to let off some steam (there were about 4 students for each interviewee, we were showered with attention). Throughout the whole interview experience, there was a ton of positive energy and excitement from the MS1s, it was really welcoming. If you are still waiting to hear, this was their first interview date so there is still plenty of time. Houston just gets started later than others. Best of luck to everyone.

From UTHSCSA about a month and a half after transmission in somewhat early July. A&M the only confirmation I have is that my application is under review. No e-mail from either Tech.

I would have to agree 100% with you. The faculty along with the student body were very nice and helpful. Both interviews were very laid back and conversational. The facilities were and resources available were top notch. Overall a great experience. BTW those tacos were good!

True but they were a little messy! I didn't spill, obviously, but I'm glad I had my interviews in the morning because I would have been nervous if I had to interview after eating.

Glad you guys enjoyed your visit here! We were excited to start seeing some interviewees finally. The MS1 class here is pretty awesome; I think you'd have a difficult time finding one of us who isn't loving it here. The students and Houston/TMC and related opportunities were the reasons I chose UTH and I can't imagine enjoying med school more anywhere else. If y'all have any other questions let us know.

I have a question, is there any tension or competition with the med school down the street?
during pre clinical and/or clinical years? for attendings, LORs, attention, ect..?

I know TMC is massive, but I'm just wondering how that dynamic works.
Thank you.

My knowledge is anecdotal (friends or fellow volunteers at both), but I have not heard of this. I do hear from both sides that each school has a distinct feel, so students seem to feel as though they were a better "fit" for one or the other...not presented in a tense manner.

We don't interact with BCM much, but when we do it's friendly. There's always competition amongst med students, even within your own school. I wouldn't say there's any tension or anything though.

II this morning. They scheduled me for the same date I'm interviewing at UTMB (confirmed about a month ago). I called UTH about rescheduling. The woman told me just to respond to the e-mail and explain why I needed a change of date, then they'd let me know if it was possible. Just FYI for anyone with scheduling conflicts. Maybe that's been brought up earlier in the thread, I don't know, haven't read it all. There's a warning in the e-mail that rescheduling may not be possible. Hopefully I can work something out so I can attend both!

Dex- congrats! What was the date they gave you originally?

What are your stats if you don't mind? I transmitted a month ago and still have not heard anything! 🙁

So my application here was under review as of August 6 (my letters of rec were not received by TMDSAS until Aug 20 though) and I have not received an interview invite. At what time of year should I assume that all the interview spots are filled up, by the end of September?

It would be pretty cool if there was an end-of-the-year paintball battle between BCM and UTH to determine who was king of the TMC.

I rescheduled without issue. Wouldn't worry about it this early.

If you don't have an interview invite two weeks before the last invite date, then you're probably not getting one. And I think they'll interview here until mid December or early January.

So I'm having a typical applicant freak out session. I submitted my application in May and I received the "under review" email from Houston on July 13th, but still no II! I have already interviewed or have an interview lined up at all the other schools I applied to in Texas, but all is quiet on the Houston front. Their "under review" email seemed rather strict as to not contacting them, but I don't want to find out too late that maybe an email slipped through the cracks or something.
My Stats: 35R, 3.9 overall, 4.0 science, in state

Any votes for contacting their admissions office? Or should I just wait it out?

I would wait. Phone call or email would slow down their process. The interview season has not over yet. It is a waiting game!!!

Are you really in Spain? If so, it's perfectly reasonable to email them to say you'll be in country on whatever dates your other interviews are and ask if they can accommodate. It's a big deal to fly internationally and they'd more than likely understand.

I know it seems late but it's still early in the interview/invitation cycle. I wouldn't freak out too much about it just yet.

For those of you that have already interviewed in Houston, I was wondering, how late does the interview day last? I was curious because I have family coming into DFW from overseas on that Friday and I wanted to make sure I could drive back to Dallas before 10ish 😀

My interview day ended about 3:30pm. You can stay after and talk to the staff/medical students if you want.

I am new to this forum
Just wanted to see if anyone who submitted close to the date I did received any interviews.
I transmitted 7/25 and received confirmation from UT Houston 8/6

MCAT: 32M
GPA: 3.82
strong extracurricular activities including extensive shadowing and research.

However, I'm 18 years old and I've heard that's a big negative. What do you think my chances are of getting an interview.
Any input is appreciated.

I don't think your age will affect whether or not you get an interview. Are you in-state or OOS? I think you have a wonderful chance at an interview. If you can convey you're mature enough to matriculate, I think you'll have a great chance at an acceptance, too. I'm still waiting on an invite or rejection as well and was complete around the same time, but just had my new MCAT post on 9/5.

Congrats on getting to this point at such a young age and with great stats like that. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
