Interview for MD on 9/8.
**** that's early...kinda wanted to have some practice with schools lower on my list but looks like it's gonna be my first interview.

Have not submitted my secondary yet, but I think I'm gonna need to step it up and get it submitted ASAP

TMDSAS transmitted 7/17, submitted 6/30

We have the same interview date man, see you there.

If anyone is interested, my stats: 4.0 TMDSAS GPA, 37R

Just got an invite, regular MD program (36 MCAT, cGPA 3.69, uGPA = sGPA = 4.0). Can't even believe it. I am so happy.

Congrats on the II here man. Really happy for you. Hope it works out and you can stay in DFW like you have hoped.

Thanks for the nice words. Yes it is an unexpected unlikely incredible surprise. This is just great. Wish you the best of luck as well.

I look forward to meeting all of you on 8/9

Holy crap. II for 9/15! Stats are 4.0 and 37R, with below average ECs if anyone is interested. I submitted about 3 weeks ago on the 24th I think.

Looks like they are only inviting high gpa and >35 mcat now 🙁

Did you all hear back in the morning, or is UT Southwestern continuing to send out invites throughout the day?

My Theory: they are sending out early invites for people from high stat to low stat. As soon as these people pick their dates, they will send II to us. I have been told if you have at least 3.7 gpa and 32 mcat you are very likely to receive an II.

Has anyone OOS gotten an interview invite yet?

Looking on last years thread UTSW sent out a second round of invites exactly a week after the first and they were all invites for the same days as the first round of invites.

I also got an invite this afternoon. I changed the interview date for 9/15. I am so excited!! Congrats to everybody else!

Don't take my word for it, but I am under the impression that, at least at UTSW, OOS get interviewed a bit later in the cycle. But I am not sure.

Maybe a current student will see the thread and come to the rescue here.

If thats the case that would be awesome. I submitted a little late for TMDSAS standards.

Just curious, when was your app transmitted to the school and what are your stats?!

Congrats on the interview. UTSW is a long-shot for me but it's nice to dream!

Congrats on all the interview invites! I know y'all must be very excited. Special callout to zaq, a future fellow MSTP!

My stats: 32 3.86cGPA 3.92sGPA and I'm a Texas resident

Thanks! TMDSAS transmitted my app on 6/28. I submitted the secondary on 6/18.

My stats are 35 MCAT and 4.0 GPA

I don't have any research experience so I thought they were not going to be interested in me.

Lol II on a Sunday, what a pleasant surprise! 9/29

Got an interview invite this afternoon! So stoked, although unfortunately I will have to reschedule because I was already planning to interview at Lubbock on the 14th and I don't want to re-book flights.

I can't acually figure out how to use the MyGateway website to RSVP though... am I just missing something? I log in using the same credentials I used when I submitted my secondary but I don't see any links to RSVP or anything...

After your log in, on the first screen, under "My Application" button there should be another "My interview" button.

Mind sharing your stats? I'm anxiously waiting for an II! haha

I am a 3.9/34. I think it is my 2 years of research that got me noticed. My ECs is quite weak otherwise

Also got the 9/8 interview, seems like a lot of us will be there! So excited, but wish I could've practiced with a school lower on my list first :/ oh well. Anyone else doing the clinical days thing the day before?

Congrats to those of y'all with IIs. If you don't have an II, don't despair ... UTSW holds interviews into December.

I'm a current MS-1 here, so feel free to ask my any questions you may have about UTSW (or interviewing at other Texas schools, for that matter).

I'm in the doldrums, mate. I'm so far down that I almost sucka-punched a baby today. The subsequent arrest and time served might actually make for a good personal statement. Lessons learned and all that.

Reminds me of the scene that keeps popping up in the commercials for "The Campaign."

I feel like I should possibly know you...

So how about that anatomy today eh? 🙄

I'll never be a surgeon.

You know those nerves we were supposed to identify? Turns out that I cut all of them.

Question 1: Did you know someone named Johnathan Tran in bme?

Question 2: I heard from someone that the Texas school interviews were pretty easy-going and they just want to make sure you aren't an idiot. How true is this?

Question 3: How much info do interviewers have pre-interview?

1. Can't comment about a specific person.

2. Obviously, I can't comment officially because I've never sat in on an adcom meeting. From personal experience, yes. I had at least one mediocre interview at every Texas school that I interviewed at, and I came out unscathed (actually, I think I bombed both of my interviews at UTSW, but who knows what the interviewer actually thought). Whether or not you have an easy-going interview depends on your interviewer, so that's just a matter of luck.

3. I know at least one interviewer has your entire application. I can't remember if the other interviewer has your entire app, or basic info only.

I was wondering if you guys knew whether Texas schools were okay with "in the area" e-mails for OOS applicants? I'll be visiting my brother in October, and I don't know whether or not it's worth it to push for a response from them?

Not sure mate. I would probably not risk it. If you want the school bad enough you will go when asked. But this is just my opinion, worth what you paid for.

Sent via my crappy phone.

I don't know either. I think it might be good to call the receptionist in admissions, tell them your situation, and ask their opinion on whether it would be good or bad to send a formal "in the area" request. This way, you're speaking with someone low on the decision making totem pole, but who is still somewhat in the loop on such things, and you can probably get by without giving them your name just in case they think it's arrogant of you to make such a request.

Just my thoughts though.

Thanks for the advice guys!

Well thought-out reply. But generally speaking, in the area emails are quite common. I highly doubt anyone would ever consider it arrogant or otherwise uncouth. But if you're worried, this sounds like an awesome plan.

Does anyone know if OOS students get scholarships for in-state tuition like UTHSCSA?
