Accepted!!!!! IS, 4.0/28 mcat. Good extra curricular and non traditional student. 🙂 I'm so excited this was my dream school!

Congrats! Did you interview 11/17 as well?

I interviewed 12/1, and I'm wondering if any acceptances from my interview weekend are going out!

My interview for this school is scheduled to be in January, so I probably won't get a chance to pre-match with UT Southwestern. So, does anyone know how the matching process works? If you're matched with your top rank school, does that mean you automatically get dropped from all the other schools (including acceptances, wait-lists, etc.)? Same thing, what happens to all of the other schools when you match with something other than your top choice?

The way I understand it is say hypothetically you match to your 3rd choice and you interviewed at 5 schools. You would be withdrawn from 4 and 5 but still be waitlist consideration for 1 and 2 until April 15th (correct me if this specific date is wrong) when any student holding an acceptance can no longer be offered an additional acceptance.

Has anyone that interviewed 12/1 heard anything?

I have a cautionary tale to everyone sending in their acceptance letter in the future-

I faxed my letter into UTSW last week (nov 29th). I have a fax confirmation with a picture of the acceptance letter (so I know it sent). I received no word from UTSW in the next week. With that said, I was not worried because someone in this forum called, and admissions said they were still working through them. I waited until today (the due date the letter was to be sent in by) and still received no word from UTSW. I emailed the education coordinator today and she said they did not receive my letter. I re-faxed in the letter this evening. Lets hope they will receive it now 🙂

I tell this story to warn you guys, if you don't hear back from UTSW, it might be a good idea to follow up and make sure they received it. Happy holidays everyone!

Very true, but I imagine the admissions office is understanding. They are very nice!

That's scary!... They are very nice people though. UTSW is just an all-around personable place!

I also interviewed 12/1 and haven't heard anything yet. I think we're supposed to wait until up until the end of December to find out if we prematched.

Has anybody with GPA 4.0 but not so good MCAT (28) received a prematch from UTSW? I interviewed September, but haven't heard back from UTSW, so I'm a little nervous since it's my dream school. Got prematch at A&M and Tech though.

I thought they mentioned something about dec. 15th?

Since 11/17 interviewees are barely getting their prematch offers, maybe 12/1 prematch offers go out next week.

Pre-match ends Dec 31, so you will have to wait until Feb. 1

From the TMDSAS website:

Applicants may hold offers from one of the TMDSAS medical schools as well as other non-TMDSAS schools such as Baylor College of Medicine. By May 15 of the matriculation year (April 15 for schools whose first day of class is on or before July 30), each applicant who has received an offer of acceptance from more than one school must choose the specific school at which the applicant prefers to enroll and withdraw his or her application from all other schools from which acceptance offers have been received.

After June 1, no medical school in Texas may offer a position to an applicant already accepted by another medical school in Texas. This is the result of an agreement between the four UT System Medical schools, Baylor College of Medicine, Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine, and University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Accepted 12/6 🙂 Interviewed 11/17 ~ IS 3.85, 32

UTSW sends out its last round of acceptances around Dec. 16th (that's last years date). Then they pick it up again in early February. They take a break for Christmas break. That's what I was told at interview. Last year's thread is consistent with this too.

+1 I was told this at the interview as well.

Oh man, I hope I interviewed in time to make it into consideration, on the off chance they loved me as much as I loved them. 😀

I didn't hear mention of Dec 16. I wonder why they end a little early, especially when they still have another interview date on the 15th?

The 16th was last year's date, so this year could have a later one. I just know they cut off before Christmas break. However, I also know that there is A LOT of action between February and May, so you still have lots and lots of time!

I interviewed on 12/8 and they said they will review the applicants again this Thursday. I assume the next round of acceptances will come out at the earliest this Friday, but more likely next week.

Thanks for this info!

In his presentation during the interview this past weekend, Dr. Wagner mentioned that there might be "a couple" of pre-matches given to our group. Don't know whether he was being explicit 🙁

I'm sure it's not impossible but... has anyone actually heard of anyone interviewing in January and matching to Southwestern?

Is an interview in January a waitlist interview?

Thanks!

I would doubt it. It's obviously too late to pre-match, but I would imagine you could match with it. I thought they said they hold a few acceptances for match (not sure though). Either way, some people currently holding acceptances will likely drop the school in Jan when they rank, opening up more spots.

(No expert here, but that's what makes sense to me, based on the system.)

Well, they told us straight up that they don't give out a lot of spot if any at all during the match so... I guess you are right, jan interview is for a spot on the waitlist. I interviewed on 9/28 and will be on the waitlist too if that makes you feels any better 🙂

From what I've read they don't really match more than 1 or 2 people a year. While Jan interviews might go straight to wait list, keep in mind that this is a VERY active wait list. Check out last year's thread.... Lot's of movement Feb through May... Especially in April and May!

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Where's the love for us December 1 interviewees?

The wait is pretty agonizing, but we've interviewed just recently. I really empathize with those who've interviewed much earlier and are still hanging on, kudos. Pre-matches should be done by this weekend or early next week, methinks.

They said that the ad com would go over the apps this Thursday, and they would give out 40 spots for the Dec interviewees. I am keeping my fingers crossed for all of us.

I thought that they said they'd give out 40 more spots from November 15 to mid-December... Meaning a good number of those have probably already gone to the November 17 interviewers, no? =/

Ee, usually there are some acceptances out for the December 1 interviewers by now since they were supposed to have gone over our apps last Thursday-- 🙁

I kind of got this impression too....

Either way, best of luck to all of us! :xf:

I thought someone here heard that Mr. Norred said they will review all the applicants (not just the ones interviewed after Nov 15) as they continue to send pre-matches through mid-December?

Yes, he did. My guess is that they rank everyone as they interview, and they will continue to accept a certain number at the top of the ranking until they run out of spots..

This may be a dumb question, but is it possible that you're not matched to any school on Feb. 1st?

This may be a dumb question, but is it possible that you're not matched to any school on Feb. 1st?

Yes but depending on how many schools you interviewed at it might be unlikely.

So no one from dec. 1st interview has gotten prematch?

This may be a dumb question, but is it possible that you're not matched to any school on Feb. 1st?

I mean it is theoretically possible, especially if you only interviewed at one or two schools, but if you've interviewed at a good amount of schools in TX (3+), then I feel like it's pretty unlikely you'll match nowhere in Feb.

That being said if you interview poorly...well, thats a different story altogether.

Remember there is also the waitlist, which for TX schools, can be very active. So even if you dont match in Feb, there's a solid chance you make it off a waitlist somewhere.

They may not have gotten to the Dec. 1st date yet (on their acceptances). I interviewed 11/17 and got my acceptance 19 days later. So it could be another week (just from my personal experience).

I really hope so. This school totally stole my heart lol

Hey def1
hang in there man. They offer roughly 400 acceptances altogether. The ones that were offered already were offered to the ones more likely to not accept them, because they usually have a choice.
So if you interviewed and if this school is your top choice, your chances are good. BTW, for what it is worth, I did put this question the the admission director and this is the question as I exactly put it (via email):
me: "I was fortunate to interview on the first week-end. Does this reflect the competitiveness of the students. I mean, does this give better odds of acceptance?"
And this is her exact answer (copy/paste)
" No. An early interview is no guarantee of either an early acceptance, or any acceptance."

So it seems in the end, interviewing early is not a guarantee at all, so interviewing late should not be seen as that bad.

Hang in there man and all of you who are still waiting. Your chances are still quite good. It is much harder to have an interview than to get accepted.

Thanks. That is reassuring.

This cycle is definitely helping to force me to be a more patient person lol.

i need to quit hitting refresh on the applicant gateway! it's a tough habit to quit.

i have an educated guess that the dec1, dec8 prematches come out at midnight "tonight"

I guess I was wrong. Until tomorrow night then!

*very clearly anxious*

I check that every once in a while. I get a little bit sadder every time

I got my acceptance via email a week ago and my status on the page still hasn't updated. It still says "INTERVIEWED" or something like that... And I think the emails go out whenever Ms. McLane gets around to sending them. Mine was at 10:07 pm on a Thursday night!

Relax, future docs. UTSW will look at the Dec 8 peeps next week according to an extremly reliable source.
