I sent an email inquiring about my status at 11:48 AM. Got that reply at 12:09 PM. Still...not exactly the sort of reply I was hoping for...it doesn't help me at all. Especially because it's just telling me something that I already know...and because my Online Applicant Center status is still as follows, and has been for quite a while now:

"We have received all materials you have indicated on your supplemental application and your file is under preliminary review. Please note that the preliminary review of your file may take 6-8 weeks. Please continue to check your status through the Online Applicant Center."


I just want to know if I even have a chance at getting an II. But yeah, sorry that you haven't heard back yet from them after e-mailing. What did you e-mail about?

Well I was small pooled, which I believe is necessary to get a II (sorry, pretty sure that has to occur). I e-mailed them an my 100th update letter, maybe it didn't go through. I've sent 2-3 before and usually got a response as quickly as you did.

Yeah, no need to be sorry. I had a feeling that since I hadn't been small pooled yet there wasn't much hope left. Good luck to you, too.
 
Hey all,

Got an interview invite today for March 7th. I was small pooled a while back. Very excited to see the school!
 
+1!! Received a II today...I was smalled pooled in like September and sent a few update letters since then!

I really wish they would give me more insight then just telling me to keep going back to the Online Applicant Center...checking it 5 times a day and seeing that I still haven't been small pooled isn't really helping my mental state at all

You absolutely still have a chance at an interview invitation. You're right that you do have to be 'small pooled', though sometimes the period of time in the 'pool' is so brief you may not even notice it. When I applied I went from the "6-8 weeks" message to receiving an II without ever noticing the small pool (and that wasn't for lack of checking my status).

Keep sending updates an/or letters of interest (not intent). UVM interviews through March and well into April so there is no reason to give up hope. Best of luck to you. :luck:

I don't really know what updates I would send them...I don't really have any...not sure what's notable. Went to a few conferences...would I just call the office and tell them about it? I just feel like I don't have anything important enough to call about. And I sent a letter a few weeks back...is it too soon to send another?
 
Same, I already sent 2 letters.. one update and one letter of interest explaining why I would like to attend UVM.

What else can send? Does it matter if I reiterate my interest?
 
Are there any out of state applicants who were accepted without having to sit on the waitlist for a long time? thanks

yeah because I'm pretty sure my file was reviewed at the first committee meeting after my interview so I never saw a waitlist status before acceptance.
 
I was accepted maybe a day or so after I saw my waitlist status from the first review I think

How long is a few weeks?

I know that it's hard to think of things to tell the admissions office because you want to wait until you have feel like you have something really 'significant', but in truth, going to a few conferences is just to use in an update. Essentially you just want to let the admissions folks know that you're really interested in the school and that if you're given the opportunity to interview that you'll show them you're a great fit for the program.

I've been small-pooled since the fall. I'm OOS and my stats/mcat are definitely on the lower end. I've had other MD interviews this cycle but so far, I've only received wait-lists and rejections. Realistically, I'm not that hopeful for UVM, but I would definitely attend the interview if I were to receive one.

Hi Remxed. I dont know the circumstances of your application so I'm not sure what stage you're at (i.e. preliminary review/small pool/post-interview/waitlist). If you can give some more info I'm happy to offer my opinion.

Like 2 weeks ago from when I posted that message above, about. So you would recommend preparing a quick letter update about the conferences I went to (they were about personalized genomics and genetic medicine), and maybe tie it in to the resources at UVM that I could use to fit my interest? Thanks so much for your input it is greatly appreciated.

Congrats on your other interviews. One of UVMs strong suits is looking beyond the numbers, so try not to beat yourself up if you feel you're on the lower end. Plenty of people in my class [and the classes above me] are doing very well in med school and didn't come into the process with 3.8GPAs or 35+ MCATs. My best advice is for you to stay in contact with the admissions office.

Yep, that is exactly what I would recommend. If I could offer one suggestion - instead of noting the resources at UVM that you could use to fit your interest, you may want to highlight how your experiences could help to bolster/add to projects/departments/initiatives already in place at the COM. Remember, you want to be telling the admission committee how you can help to make their school an even better place (not just what you stand gain from it). Hope that helps!


Sorry for the brief responses folks, I (and the rest of my class) have a big exam coming up in less than 12 hours, so we're all pretty stressed out. 🙂

Oh, also...last time I mailed a hard copy snail mail letter...is it equally effective to just send the letter as an e-mail attachment to admissions? Just wanted to double check...

I'm pretty sure UVM prefers emails. They'll confirm receipt of the letter by email.

Yep. The same address you've used for your other contacts with the admissions office. If memory serves, I'm pretty sure it's listed somewhere on the OAC. I typically attached it as a Word Document and a PDF...but I'm sure either is fine.

Yeah I think I'll probably just attach a word doc...unless you or anyone else has reason to believe that they prefer receiving PDFs or both/(two copies)

I would just get it sent in .. . I've copied and pasted directly into the box that pops up when you clicked contact admissions in the OAC and it worked just fine.
 
did anyone who interviewed in january receive an acceptance yet?

They haven't had an adcom meeting since mid-January, and no one who interviewed even at the beginning of December reported an acceptance out of that one, so hopefully next week will bring good news to many of us.
 
At my interview last week, they said the adcom is going to meet on March 11. Fingers crossed everyone!
 
I know the next admissions committee meeting is march 11. I was wondering how long after the previous committee meeting did it take for those accepted/waitlisted statuses to change following the interview? thanks

sorry to hear that-
make sure you carefully consider grad school and don't just go because you're not sure what else to do next. I did that once upon a time. Make sure you know what you hope to do in grad school and what kind of career you want to get out of it (academia has it's perks, but it also has major downsides, like not being able to get a job). Take your time, it's not something to rush.

I have a few months at the very least to consider it, and trust me, I've also thought about it a great deal already. My goals are in personalized genetic medicine, which can fortunately be approached in a variety of ways. My current inclination is PhD in genetics/clinical genetics/molecular therapeutics followed by a fellowship in clinical genetics of some sort. Get involved in higher level leadership in a molecular genetics laboratory. I'm open to changes in this track, of course...but at least I have some direction. Thanks for the support 🙂

👍 It's been a long two months since the last meeting. Hoping we get some good news this time around
 
I also got the same message on the online applicant center as SandsofTime. I wish they would have just emailed us when the status changed. I was definitely hoping for II from them. Oh well... best of luck to anyone who still has a chance!
 
I don't follow this thread as well as I should. I have been small pooled since August or September and have sent in multiple LOIs. Does anyone know where they are at in the scheduling of interviews? Are they already scheduling their last interviews for April? I'm really hoping to get one of the last interview spots.

Relax and be yourself. The day is low stress and everyone is extremely nice. They invited you because they think you are qualified. At this point they just want to make sure you're not a raging lunatic, socially inept, or a bad fit for their school 😀

One of the things I really liked about UVM was that all students must complete a public health project during the first half of their second year. These projects are designed to teach students about health issues that affect our communities by working with groups and organziations such as the American Red Cross, the Ronald McDonald House, the Greater Burlington YMCA, and the Vermont Department of Environmental Health.

Another really cool feature of UVM is COMET. This interactive program allows students to view lecture slides, course requirements and schedules. It also provides a slew of valuable information including virtual reality modules, interactive case studies, animations, and movies. You can view all of this on the new dell tablet that is given to incoming students.

Vermont has given everyone else that slight glimmer of hope of a late II
