Rejected OOS. Didn't really expect this one to work out. Complete 8/1

OOS Secondary complete: 8/31
Interview invite: 9/20
Interview date: 9/28

I was a nervous wreck before the interview since it was my first one. Going to the social made the whole thing less intimidating. The student interviewer told me that they really discourage "difficult" questions, and they boast about being the most chill interviewers (i.e. the only question they are required to ask is "do you have any questions?"). I felt like the day was more for us to get to know them. They did a good job making me want to go there.

Good luck!

Rejected moments ago. OOS. Complete 8/21.

does anyone know what days of the week they interview? Is it only on Fridays? Also, does anyone know if they are receptive to "in the area" letters?

They're not limited to Fridays only. You can reschedule if needed, but I get the sense that there are fewer than 25 interview dates each cycle.

I just got an II for Friday (10/05) but I think it may be a mistake because even though I have good stats (OOS, 35S, 3.8, good ECs) they only gave me 48 hours notice... is this normal? If I call tomorrow to check and they meant to send me the email, would it be unreasonable to ask them to move it to a later date?

wow thats crazy! from this thread it seems like they have been having a really quick invite --> interview date but that's insane, unless you're living in Madison (and even then) they can't expect you to get everything together that quickly. i'd def call tomorrow

Called today... turns out there was someone else applying with my last name and they accidentally emailed me instead. Real awkward. I kept hoping she'd end by saying "Well, I feel so bad that you can go ahead and come in for an interview anyway..." No such luck.

That stinks. Sorry 🙁

First Rejection, OOS 3.9/34 complete 8/22

woo finally got an interview here! was starting to get a little worried. NOvember 2

Do any of my fellow interviewees remember when they said decisions would come out?

I'm aware that Oct 15th is the first "legal" day...but for some reason I keep picturing the dean say that they wouldn't start sending out decisions until Nov?

I don't have my folder handy and perhaps I'm crazy or mistaking them for another school.

Any insight?

according to their twitter page it says they "wish they could give out acceptances but have to wait until Oct 15th", if you were one of the first days I'd expect to receive it soon. good luck!

Good find... I didn't know the admissions dept had their own separate twitter from the SOM.

Thanks. 👍

Anyone interviewing this friday? This is my first interview and I'm so nervous! :scared:

Rejected today. OOS, 3.6, 33, Complete 8/9

I just got a confusing interview invite. In my secondary I specifically stated an interest in the TRIUMPH (Training in Urban Medicine & Public Health) program, and my interview invite is for the WARM (Wisconsin Academy of Rural Medicine) track. I don't plan to go into rural medicine and I am wondering if this is a mistake. This school sounds great, but I don't want to put the emphasis of my medical education in a skillset that I am not planning to use, you know?

Anyway, I'll email them. If my potential for being accepted is contingent on a rural medicine focus, one of you may or may not get my interview.

I got the same thing, I was confused too. Let me know what they say.

I got the invite today, complete around 8/22.
MCAT >30, <35
GPA >3.8

that is very strange. also (i could be wrong) but I thought WARM was only for WI residents? that has to be a mistake. hope the interview invite in general was right tho!

yup just looked at the website and it says it's limited to WI res. seems like they've been having a lot of technical glitches w interview invites this year (someone above got an invite and then found out it was a mistake) sorry guys, I hope you'll still get an interview for the regular program!

Yeah, I'm OOS by 2000 miles. I hope it's really an interview invite regardless! But it's in TWO WEEKS. Scheduling that flight now is going to be a bare minimum of $500. Ack.

Ok, it was a mistake. But I DO have an interview for the regular MD program!! Woot woot!

I'll take that spot! I work 10 minutes from campus and it's my top pick! That's allowed right?

edit: boo

Same here. I decided to take a train because I've always wanted a train ride through the Midwest. It's half as much as a plane, in my case anyway.

Interviewed today. Loved the facilities and the students! They seem honestly happy. I was really impressed 🙂

I really really really hope for an acceptance 🙂 7 weeks is so long away...

So, scheduling a flight this close is really ridiculous and I am trying to figure out how to not pay $700. The email says the interview day wraps up at 3-ish. Any thoughts on whether I would have sufficient time to catch a 4:38 flight?

Edit: Nevermind. Managed to get it under $400 without needing to make a mad dash for the airport.

Yeah unfortunately dane county airport is tiny. Glad you worked it out!

Our interview day got done at 2:30 btw. And they let you go at 2:00 if you want. They said that they understand that we have exams to study for and/or flights to catch so they don't judge.

Whoops, already scheduled & I head out Saturday morn. I guess I'll just have to hit the town on friday night! I am pretty sure I can find a friend of a friend to stay with so it's not a big deal.

That'll be an epic night haha. Too bad I'm on call that wknd and can't come back 🙁

Could anyone who has already interviewed comment on their experience a little? I read through the Interview Feedback page but I am still super nervous. I wasn't expecting an invite two weeks prior to the actual interview and I am feeling overwhelmed trying to prepare for this! Did you go to the evening social? Where is the school in relation to downtown Madison? I am flying in at around 2 PM and my friend won't be meeting up with me until later. Could I easily get to downtown Madison from the airport? I have read that the interview doesn't bear much weight on your acceptance decision. Can anyone confirm/deny this?

Someone asked above, but have any WARM applicants heard anything? I interviewed for it last year, and needless to say, it didn't work out. I sent in the app the second day it was available for IS applicants.

meh it's been kinda lame the last couple years. Mifflin on the other hand?

JUST DON'T GO

Lol

I went the year before and it was awesome... Apparently last year was lame tho, I had to work 🙁

You interview with one faculty member, and with a group of applicants and two students. The interviews are pretty chill; they matter less than at some schools but more than before. The interview social isn't necessary but can be nice. The school is ~2 miles from downtown Madison and ~8 mi from the airport. You can easily take a cab to downtown from the airport, and it's possible, but time consuming to take a bus there.

I submitted a bit after you (complete 9/28) but have not heard anything yet either. Does anyone who has already interviewed know if any of your fellow interviewees were WARM applicants?

Yeah, there were a few that I knew of, but there were probably more.

I'm applying for the WARM program and I am interviewing this friday. I got my II on 9/20

I met three WARM applicants at my 9/28 interview, for what that's worth.

UWSMPH admissions twitter reports that the first letters have gone out. I'm starting to get jumpy now :scared:

Do you remember, does everyone get letters (i.e. whether accept, waitlist, reject)? Or is the waitlist silent?

At least last year, everyone got a letter. Also I called and got my decision over the phone and didn't get the letter for almost a week after that! So might as well try a phone call if you're dying to know 😉
