Do you need to send any in state forms like you do for uva?

1 semester of undergrad Anatomy and A LOT more easily crushed in about 1 and half week of medical school (that's how it was in my pre-matriculation program which is the same exact pace as our regular school and taught by the same professor). You will hear this analogy a lot from medical students, medical school is like drinking water from a fire hydrant which is true but not too hard 😉
The thing is though that you get used to it and start picking up on it quickly. All you have to do is put in the effort and hard work.

Anatomy and Physiology was my favorite science subject in undergrad College. All the basic science subjects in medical school are subjects I loved in undergrad too. I know the pace, hardwork, depth, and difficulty is NOTHING compared to undergrad. However, I will be doing schoolwork in subjects I love and am happy with.

So Gross Anatomy essentially 1 year of undergraduate Anatomy in depth covered in MUCH less time (3 months roughly?)

Hey guys,

I got my complete status here on 8/1 and received another email today saying my status has changed in the past 24hrs. I log on excitedly to find........ that my status is complete...again....

I know that sometimes the wrong statuses get given to us by accident, wonder if that's what happened here? Maybe I've now been reviewed and this update was supposed to be something else? Has this happened to anyone else? Just curious if anyone might have some insight.

I just found this status right now and the admissions office is definitely closed for the evening. Guess I'll call them in the morning to check.

In all honesty you can't compare undergrad Anatomy to medical school Anatomy at all. Medical school Anatomy is way too in depth, something that undergrad courses will not be able to accomplish no matter how much time given. The closest thing to medical school Anatomy is taking Anatomy in a SMP program.

Same thing happened to me today. I got all nervous logging in and then.......nothing. It was all just one big tease. I suppose it is better than a rejection though.

Wow that's funny, same thing happened to me (Complete Aug. 1st; update again today)! I thought it was just their way of teasing me...

I wonder what that could mean?

My status was updated from complete to on hold pending my new MCAT score. I didn't indicate a retake on AMCAS or anywhere else. I got a 33 and I don't plan on retaking...

Why is it too unrealistic for even top undergraduate schools to cover gross anatomy?

Wow... Good to know whoever is updating statuses on the admissions end is on top of it! Lol.

But seriously.

How long does it take for VCU/MCV to screen/how long does it take to receive a secondary after indicating that you're applying to VCU/MCV via an already verified AMCAS application? Thanks!!

They don't cover it in that much detail in undergrad. Of course taking Anatomy in undergrad will help you to some degree and every school covers it just not at that level. You can't compare the two just like you can't compare Biology in high school with an upper division Biology class in undergrad no matter how prestigious the high school.

Exactly. For example, although I learned basic mendel genetics in high school biology, the genetics class in undergraduate school covered mendelian genetics plus non mendelian genetics, linkage, epigenetics, genetic mapping, and Hardy Weinberg principle.

I did not know anything about Hardy Weinburg in 9th grade.

Did you guys apply last year? Yesterday, VCU closed down their wait-list, so who ever was on it, their status changed to inform them of that.

I applied to schools two years ago, but never got to wait-list stage here unfortunately.

Just got off the phone with admissions, and found that the complete email I received was in fact an error. The lady I spoke with said that my status was that "My application has been sent to subcommittee"

Is this a good thing? I know it means they couldn't make a decision about an interview right away, but if they send it to subcommittee does that mean they are seriously considering an interview still? Or is it some sort of hold pool where application go to die?

Well this is the first I'm hearing of that additional form, guess I'll get my mentor to submit it asap lol.

I literally just saw it a week ago. It's on the instructions page. I'm not even anywhere near my school right now, so it won't be in for another week or so haha.

I received the first email from them on July 9 and then was screened in on July 11. I also was verified before primaries were sent to schools, so I'm not sure if the quick turnaround was due to how many applications they had, my place in line, etc. I would suspect its probably around a week give or take a couple of days.

From past years it seems like that status means you will most likely be rejected, though it is still possible to get an interview.

Hoping for a status change soon. "Complete" is getting boring.

Did she imply that everyone who had recieved the complete e-mail in error had the "subcommittee" status?

Gotcha.Thanks. I think I'll wait a bit and then call if my status hasn't changed.

I submitted on 7/14 and I'm still incomplete. If you do end up calling, let me know what they say.

"The committee's file review indicates that they would like to consider your file further."

Starting to get excited.

Congrats! That was my first update all season, and I was ecstatic about it! Hopefully we'll get interviews soon, but it sounds like they're focusing on in states at the moment. Has any oos applicant gotten an II yet?

Rejected today. OOS URM 3.14/3.00/33Q

Your complete application has been considered carefully by the Admissions Committee, and we regret that we are unable to offer you a position in the class beginning in August 2013. The Committee understands the disappointing nature of their decision and does NOT offer reasons for this action but does suggest that you consult with your pre-med advisor to discuss the possibility for improvement of your application.

We wish you the very best of success with your alternate plans.

Rejected by phone today. They asked if I would be willing to retake my MCAT. When I ask why they said the only way to convince the adcom to wait for my grades was if I could get an stronger MCAT. I told them I was not going to retake and was told I would be rejected. Email came in two hours later. This school is very competitive this round. I am a bit disappointed they didnt wait for my smp grades

I just got a 3rd status update telling me my application is complete...

What the hell does that mean?!

They must've really like you though...I never heard of adcoms calling applicants unless it's an acceptance call..

That was what I was thinking too. Even though VCU has some of the nicest admissions staff I've spoken to, it is still odd that they went that far.

Any red flag is usually an automatic rejection, they rarely give you the chance to address something on your application.

Even though I will probably be rejected by them in the next few weeks, I have to give credit to the VCU admissions staff for being one of the best in the country

Will do.

I just got my 3rd as well. Second day in a row to be marked complete. VCU is starting to be the school that cried status change.....

I got the strangest message today from VCU:

The committee's file review indicates that they are interested in your candidacy. However, due to the increase in the applicant pool this year, it is clear we MAY be unable to interview all the candidates at your priority score. If we do find that we are unable to grant an interview, you will be notified by e-mail in March.

Did anyone else get this message/ knows what it means?!?!?

I'm too lazy to post the status explanations right now, but it's a good thing. Arguably the 2nd best status to have behind "very interested." From others year threads, plenty of people with the MAY status get interviewed and accepted. Congrats.

Read through the rest of the thread. It's a good sign. (Someone asked the exact same thing, and I gave the exact same answer on the last page).

What are your stats?

+1, but with a higher GPA and slightly lower MCAT.

Nothing like that first early rejection to send one into a tailspin of self-doubt, right? Or is that just me? Le sigh.

I have 3 DO interviews so far so hopefully at least one of those works out. VCU was one of my MD safety schools though, so perhaps I should be more worried.. I'm ready to get rejected from the vast majority of schools though.

Hi all, I recently received the "Very interested" status update from VCU. VCU is certainly one of my top choices, and I am trying to get a better idea of what exactly this status means. I understand that the update implies a strong likelihood of receiving an interview, but does my priority score at this point weigh at all into my ultimate odds for acceptance? Best of luck to everyone!

I would think it does, in the sense that if they like you that much at the pre-interview stage, it's basically "your game to lose." You are obviously a high priority to them, so I doubt it could change much, unless you bomb the interview. Congrats on the status, btw.

Why would they make you retake a 32? sounds strange.

Been complete since 7/16 and no status change. Beginning to expect the worst.
