I just received an II, but the earliest date is Feb 6. I'm very interested in the school, but don't want to spend the money flying out there if I will only be interviewing for a spot on the wait list (I'm from CA). Does anyone know if they interview for wait list spots? Will the class be mostly full by the time I interview? Any help/advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

As far as I'm aware, VCU doesn't interview for waitlist spots. If they interview you, you have a chance of being accepted. That's why they have the scheduled dates for acceptance announcements and I believe one of them is in March, or sometime around then.

Announcement for Interviewees:

Dr. Whitehurst-Cook asked me to let you know that interviews are on for tomorrow, Monday, Oct. 29 and the remainder of the week. Unless you hear otherwise from Dr. Whitehurst-Cook or her staff concerning future dates, all interviews are being held. She will have her staff contact you personally if you need to be rescheduled. However, she has said that if you feel uncomfortable about coming to Richmond due to the storm, she understands and asks that you let her know ASAP. She would then have you call back later in the week to reschedule but you should let her know before your interview time as later will not look professional. It is understandable if you are uncomfortable driving or flying here when a storm is close and it will not impact your candidacy if handled appropriately (i.e., you call ahead of time to reschedule).

I hope that is helpful! I happened to run into her today while studying, and we talked for awhile.... Good luck, everyone!

Interviewed last week, just got a status update and my heart dropped (thought it was a rejection). Turns out, it's the survey status

Rescheduled my interview tomorrow to an indeterminate date due to the storm.

i got the "The Admissions Committee has met to discuss your file. Your application is being placed on hold for action at a later date. We anticipate making offers October 16, December 15, February 1, and March 16. Only offers of admission will be made on the dates above." status update friday, more wait awaits

I'm going in for my interview tomorrow. Where is the best place to park? Preferably somewhere closer than the parking deck, especially if I'm going to have to walk through a hurricane to get to Sanger...

Closest: the meters by the Capitol bldg (catacorner to Sanger), but I believe they're two-hour parking, so you'll probably get ticketed if you leave your car there all day. I've also heard M2s suggest interviewees park in the patient parking areas -- but don't get caught or you'll look like a douche on your interview day!

Best: probably the street at the Bottom (i.e., east of Broad and 17th) or at your hotel and get a taxi

Also, I would suggest giving them a call to see what the status of interviews is for tomorrow, since the University closed today by order of the Governor. Who knows what tomorrow ill bring. (We are hoping for another closure and consequent delay of our practical....)

I got a call AND an e-mail this morning saying that they're on for tomorrow so I think they're pretty adamant about sticking to it. How is the rain down there? I'm about an hour out and there's just some light rain.

Just light rain. I think they're pretty adamant, but I also know that we closed today because the State said we had to. It wasn't a VCU/MCV Admin decision and the worst is supposed to come tonight.

As of now, though, it's just raining hard. I moved my car up the hill in case it floods and haven't gone outside but it doesn't seem that bad. Constant winds are supposedly about 25 mph. Gusts supposedly exceed 50 mph. Doesn't seem that bad to me, really.

I was complete early last week and was invited for an interview on 11/27 last night!!....never recieved any other status updates. IS

Wow thats fast! I have been complete since early Sep and status hasn't changed. It still says the file will be reviewed...(only God knows when 🙁)

I was complete late August and received a status update last week. It is a slow process.

I know this has been asked before but I don't know what page it is on, so what are the chances this cycle with receiving this status? Thanks!

The committee's file review indicates that they are interested in your candidacy. However, due to the increase in the applicant pool this year, it is clear we MAY be unable to interview all the candidates at your priority score. If we do find that we are unable to grant an interview, you will be notified by e-mail in March.

Less good than the very, likely better than the further.

Sorry if this has been asked before. 2-3 days back I got a status update saying that my file has been forwarded to the admissions committee. Today I got another email about a status update, but the status page just reads:

"Your M.D. file is now complete. The Admissions Committee will now do a comprehensive review of your application. Once the review is complete, your file will be prioritized, and interviews will be granted based on your priority score and the date your file was completed. Please do not call the Admissions Office requesting special dates."

And then the usual stuff about citizenship, EDP and when acceptances will be issued. Maybe I'm wrong...but wasn't this the same status we received when we first submitted the app? Is this bad news for me? 🙁

^can't remember exactly but i think this status comes once the secondary app and all the reference letters etc. are in.

lol sorry got confused by the "complete last week" part...😳 but congratulations for the interview invite!

Rejected pre-interview, submitted mid-Sept., complete 2 days ago, OOS <3.4 >35. Is it just super competitive this year, or would it be due to a lack of clinical experience/being OOS?

I received an II 1 week after receiving this status. :luck:

I emailed them about rescheduling my interview due to the storm but wasn't given a new date yet. Did anyone who also postponed their interview hear back from them?

I interviewed on 10/17 but haven't gotten the admissions committee status yet, should I be worried?

Depends on what you mean by "lack of clinical experience". If you mean like one summer of volunteering at a hospital and that's it, then yes this likely contributed to your pre-interview rejection. VCU, along with many medical schools find clinical experience very important because it shows them that you have at least seen what it's like to practice medicine (as best any pre-med can) and have that experience to properly base your decision to go into medicine. This I know is important to VCU. Also, mid-september is quite late to submit an application seeing as it opened in June. Usually submitting so late really affects you, unless you're an outstanding candidate. I don't know your whole background but a <3.4 GPA with a >35 MCAT is a little disparate as well, unless you had some sort of extenuating circumstance during undergrad or you had a academically intense major.

Mediocre GPA offset by moderately high MCAT, so assume you would have been a fairly average OOS matriculant stats wise within my class (I know several classmates with 34s and 35s and a few 36+s). You submitted pretty late so that would have hurt and if you lack clinical experience, that's your kiss of death here. Sorry buddy.

Rejectedddddd. Low stats but I thought I wrote a pretty convincing secondary essay. Oh well....

Wow! congrats! 👍 I just received that status as well but no call 🙁 I really hope I hear from them soon!

Yes, considering I've applied to many of my state schools ( and my state has MANY) and have yet to hear from them.

I got subcommittee'd. No institutional actions and no offenses or misdemeanors.
In state at VCU. 30Q. 3.74 cgpa, 3.70 sgpa. Verified 10/4

Any other reasons for getting subcommittee'd?

Plenty. All depends on your app. No reason to get all worried now, though. Just go with the flow.... It'll all work out.

Went to the VCU interview with my decreased MCAT score and gave everything I had. Crossing my fingers this time. :xf:

Got the further status just now. I was hoping for #1 or #2, but I'm glad it's not a rejection.

It's one of my favorite schools. Definitely the #1 school on my list that people with my stats (3.52/31R/OOS) have a decent chance at. I'm really hoping for the II.

Just bought my flights and hotel for the interview. Anyone else interviewing on November 19th?

Contacted by phone for an II just now for fmSTAT! So excited! I would really LOVE to go to this school and the program sounds amazing.

Got the "further" status yesterday.

Don't despair! I got the further status late last night and first thing this morning I got a wonderful phone call saying I got an interview for VCU MD and fmSTAT!!! She also said I could interview basically any Thursday I want (I chose Dec 6 - the soonest Thursday I have no lab and unfortunately since I'm Canadian we don't do US thanksgiving - It's before the Dec 15 acceptance date which is all that matters, really.)

Needless to say, I am deliriously happy as VCU is a school I would be ecstatic to go (definitely one of my top choices if not THE top if I get into fmSTAT) to and it's my first interview after a bunch of rejections.

Wow this is awesome. I guess I'll hold on to that sliver of hope!

Congrats btw.

Thanks! It's the first sliver of hope I've received this admissions cycle. It meant so much to me to finally found out that my app is not hopeless! And it definitely dampened my rejection from BU that I received shortly after.

Congrats! Glad you got a date before the 15th, so you can hear back soon!

so theres 4 acceptance dates and what happens if dec 15th is a saturday? does that mean we wont hear till the 17th?

December cant come any sooner

On a similar note Is it safe to say if you interview on the 12/3 you will get the 15th or have to wait until the February date?

Withdrew my app today. I hope it speeds up the process for someone else! 🙂 Good luck guys!!
