Got a II Monday, been complete since early August. If you have been waiting there is hope.

Is the Wingate hotel the one on campus?

Got an II just now! I've been complete since mid August as well...Keep hope alive everyone! ;-)

II this afternoon! Complete as of last week/a few days ago! Very excited!

congrats to all of the recent interview invitees!!

anyone know when the next adcom meeting is? I am hoping to come off the alternate list.

They are also meeting today! Thats what they said at my interview a few weeks ago! I am up for review today lol!

Anyone have any idea how long they take to notify of your status after they review you post-interview?

+1 Im waiting to come off the list too. Even sent a nice love letter in 😍 Wonder if the list has started to move at all.

December 12, I believe

They are also meeting today!

hmm... both are wednesdays. 14 days apart from each other and the last meeting (that I know of). i guess both of you are right.

I was put on the alternate list the day after they met last time. although they told me i would have to wait 7 days. so anywhere from 1-7 days i guess.

Big news out of Winston Salem today!!! Our lectures are now simulcast online as well as being archived to watch later. I think this is great because it lets you use class time as effectively as you would if you were at school....but you can be in bed, in ur PJ's!! Best of luck to those under review today
Go Deacs!

So people on the alternate list are re-reviewed everytime the ADCOM meets instead of just at the end of the cycle like other schools?

Sweet!

I was put on the waitlist on the 10/15, sent a LOI, and then got accepted on 11/8! So they do look at the waitlist at each committee meeting 🙂

See first quote. Looks like "waitlist" is more like a hold pile that is reviewed at each meeting. That's good news!

So the interview day outline shows 1pm-3pm as the time for interviews. Is it two one-on-one interviews? Or is it a two-on-one interview? Also, SDN feedback says most interviews are only 15 minutes...?

Yea that is awesome news! Thank you 🙂

Neither, it's three 20 minute one-on-one's, mostly closed file.

Thanks! All faculty/physicians? Or are there student interviews too?
Everyone at the interview day is interviewed by the same 3 people. It sort of goes in rotations. On my day we had all faculty/physicians. I'm not sure i fthey do student interviews.

Oh I've heard about interview days like that. Thanks for the info 🙂

I had 3 faculty, no student! I'm not sure if thats the standard or just what we happened to get on our day! Its was very friendly and I really actually liked the 3 short interviews thing

Congrats. Just got the status update? Or did you get an email too?

Thanks! Just status update. No email yet..I thought that was strange.

Must be an awesome feeling 🙂 Did you get in off the wait-list? If not, when did you interview? I'm curious how quickly they are getting decisions out.

Accepted!! Will withdraw so good luck to those on the waitlist. I interviewed 11/9.

Hasn't quite hit me yet (but I am at work). I interviewed about 2-3 weeks ago so I was accepted on my first review. I'm in state so I'm sure that helps too. Wake is a great school and I'm fortunate to be accepted here. Good luck to everyone who hasn't heard back yet!

Alternate list... not too broken up! I have an acceptance that I am very very happy with.

anyone get in off the alternate list today? I did not. Will they send me an update saying "we reviewed your file and you're still on the alternate list" or is it just silence from now until a final decision?

Congrats to everyone accepted, still waiting to hear back if I will get an interview or not!

Congratulations to those accepted! It looks like they update statuses the day after the adcom meets, so I'm hoping for good news on Dec 13!

I'm OOS and interviewing soon. I was wondering if any other OOS-ers who attend WF can comment on transportation to/from your home state for holidays, family visits, etc. It seems like it's very expensive (and kind of inconvenient) to fly into PTI, and then the school is another 40(?) minute drive from the airport. Transportation to/from home (I live in the Midwest) is the one reservation I have about this school, so how are current OOS students dealing with this?

Can a current student who is OOS comment on this? Believe it or not, the car rental fiasco wasn't the most frustrating part of traveling to my interview.

Is it easier/cheaper to fly to into Charlotte?

Charlotte is one of the largest airports in the US and is <1.5 hrs hours from Winston-Salem. I believe about half of the student body at Wake is in-state, so I'm sure there will be people with whom you can hitch rides. Same goes for Raleigh-Durham airport, which recently added a non-stop flight to San Francisco. Also, PTI isn't always that expensive if you have a little flexibility in your schedule. In fact, I usually find flights that are comparable to flights out of Raleigh-Durham or Charlotte.

I know it's not as easy as transportation might be in other parts of the country, but I think cost of living in Winston-Salem will easily make up for the money you will spend flying out of here.

I am from Winston-Salem but attended school in California; so, I've had some experience with NC's airports.

PTI has become one of the more consistently expensive airport options in NC; however, it is clearly the most convenient from Winston-Salem. It is crazy quiet, so you can get in/out very quickly. However, flight destinations and times are quite limited, particularly if you're looking for direct options.

CLT can also be quite pricey, as it has transitioned to US Airways' primary hub. It also can be a busy airport to navigate. Not a fan. But, it provides a ton of direct flight options.

RDU is, in my opinion, the best airport in NC, especially if you're not loyal to US Airways. Direct flights to LAX, SFO, SLC, Texas, Chicago, Florida, NYC, etc. It's super efficient and fast, as well. A ton of direct options.

CLT and RDU are both roughly 1.5 hours from Winston-Salem, so there is no major difference in travel convenience. In terms of getting to the airport, checking bags, and making in through security, RDU >>>> CLT in my opinion, even during peak travel days/times.

I didn't know about the non-stop to SF. Thank you! You are right, the living expenses do make up for the extra airfare.

Thank you both, that was very helpful!

Also, FWIW, The new "Terminal 2" building at Raleigh-Durham is apparently considered one of the "most beautiful" airport terminals in the world. 🙂 Unfortunately I can't find proof haha, but I've heard this from multiple people. It is definitely nice though.

any current Wake student want to answer the following:

1. How competitive is the class given the grading system?

2. How do Wake graduates do on Step 1 / Where do they end up matching? (a match list would be awesome!)

3. What's the social life like? What do y'all do for fun?

4. What are your thoughts on Wake's prestige?

Thanks!!!

Aw man it's not P/F?

Got accepted elsewhere yesterday and am considering not going to my WF interview. Can anyone who has already interviewed or a current student convince me to go? I'm really not interested in a non-P/F system, and I'm just incredibly tired of traveling.. I've been on 9 interviews since Aug 28.

Edit: Nice match list.

1. It seems to change from class to class. My class was relatively competitive. I'm not sure it had to do with the grading system though. I will note that although some schools are P/F for years 1 and 2, as far as I know, most if not all have some sort of graded evaluation scheme for years 3 and 4 (i.e. the years when grades matter more). But if you want strict P/F for 2 years, I do not blame you at all for that.

2. Wake students do OK on step 1. The average for our class was about 230 (nat average around 225 I think, so not a huge difference) and only 1 out of 118 failed (that's pretty good btw). Match list varies from year to year. Looking at one match list isn't super informative, but just for example, c/o 2012 did pretty well in my estimation. Note that these numbers could have a vastly different distribution in any other given year.
Rough count:
9 anesthesia
8 ortho
5 ophtho
4 derm
4 neurosurg
4 rads
3 ENT
1 Urology
And of course a collection of family/internal med/gen surgery/emergency med/neuro/pediatrics/psych/PMR/etc.

3. Social life is... somewhat limited. There are restaurants/bars, etc, and it's actually not a bad setting overall for medical school. But I'd be lying if I said Winston has a ton to do. And if you're looking to date someone not in the med school... it could be an uphill climb. But not impossible by any means!

4. Wake's prestige..? I don't know. It's fine I guess? Not sure how to evaluate that. People don't have a spontaneous prestige-induced orgasm when I tell them where I go to school. And it will depend on where you are. Wake is prestigious in Winston-Salem and NC generally. Less so elsewhere.

Hope this helps.

That helps tremendously, thanks! It looks like Wake is making a concerted effort to focus more on the boards without actually teaching for it (which is important). If I recall correctly, I remember being told Wake's step 1 avg was around 216, 4 years ago.

Granted, I won't be picking schools based on their average Step 1 score, but its nice to know Wake has that in mind to some extent!

Hi all,
Quick question. Forgive me for my ignorance but I noticed people talking about "status updates" that are not actual emails. Do you get access to a page with these updates after you've interviewed? Right now, when I log in to the secondary it just has a page with what I submitted and no external links. I haven't interviewed (or received an II for that matter), so just wondering. Thanks!

EDIT: Nevermind, found a link to it on the previous page of this thread. For those who might have the same question: https://www.hrfin.wfubmc.edu:8022/ps...tab=PAPP_GUEST

You are correct. It has become an area of emphasis.

Great to know...do you mind elaborating on how its become more of an emphasis? Do you think Wake's performance during the match this year is a direct result of that? (i.e what else could the variable be?)
