Interviewing here tomorrow... Anyone who has interviewed already have any last minute advice??

You might already know this, but on the spectrum between traditional interview and multiple mini interview (MMI), Wake Forest falls somewhere in the middle, although a little closer to the traditional side of things.

You will have three standard 15-20 minute interviews. If you've been to other med school interviews, you will find that at Wake Forest you spend substantially less time with each interviewer. I remember finishing the day feeling as though my interviewers didn't really get a chance to know me well (though I still got in). Thus, make sure you are ready to talk about your experiences in a fairly concise way.

As for general interview advice; it never hurts to brush up on some health policy and medical ethics. And be natural; let the conversations take their natural course, even if it means you don't get to mention every last bit of information you wanted to convey.

Finally, the admissions office is difficult to find! Make sure you leave plenty of time in the morning for getting lost. I left the parking deck about 25-30 minutes before my interview and I barely made it in time.

This is great advice. Once you walk inside from the parking deck, I would just ask the receptionist at the desk to direct you to the medical school admissions office. It is hard to find if you don't know where you're going. I asked and it only took me 10-15 minutes to walk through the hospital from the deck. Good luck!

I would say know your application well. It was clear that one of my interviewers had read my file very closely, probably minutes before interviewing. He/she essentially quoted parts of my application and asked me to defend them, support them, or draw lessons from them. Kind of took me aback since I had written my AMCAS almost 5 months earlier.

Most of all: be yourself because it's a fairly low stress interview overall! :luck:

Thank you all so much for your advice. Luckily, I flew in a day early so I have already scoped out the hospital and where I need to be tomorrow. I will definitely be brushing up on my application and I'll be ready to represent myself effectively albeit concisely...Thanks again!

so pachewisc I was looking at your mdapps, and it seems that me and you are the same person. I also interviewed at Case Western, Wake Forest, and Cincinnati around the same time you did, and I also got waitlisted at all three. Why must med schools do this to us 😡.

That's a good question. I felt I interviewed really well at all 3, so I'm not sure where I dropped the ball. Maybe we were interviewing for the waitlist the at all of them based on our applications? Doesn't seem to make sense, but oh well, this entire process can be an enigma at times.

if you look on the wfusom 2017 facebook page, it looks like 70 students have already joined the group. Adding the people that are still undecided and given that wake does not overaccept, it may be that people are interviewing for the waitlist

Don't worry! Wake accepts a ton of students off the waitlist. There are people on this thread who have been accepted after being initially waitlisted. So it seems that, at least for now, the "waitlist" means the committee hasn't decided to accept or reject your application yet. There is still time.

Does anybody know what the Step 1 averages have been at WFUSM? Also, what is board prep like?

*Nevermind. Found info from earlier posts.

I interviewed on 10/31 and was put on the Alternate list. They made it very clear that this is a favorable standing and to write a letter describing your interest in Wake Forest to continue to be considered. I wrote the letter and am yet to hear back from them.

I know no news is good news, but does anyone know if people on the alternate list have to wait until interviewing has finished to be pulled off the alternate list or if it COULD be soon.

Just curious...

I'm in the same boat, but I have seen people pulled from the alternate list to be accepted on this thread - though it was like in October or early November.

I know the next committee meeting is on the 16th, so I'm hoping for some good news then as I sent my letter just before Christmas IIRC, so this would be the next committee meeting for me. :xf:

Good Luck! I don't want to get my hopes up but it's hard not to...

I submitted my secondary late oct. and sent an update letter containing grades and some awards I have received since then. Still no invitation for an interview. Stats are 3.6 both cGPA and sGPA. 13P12B8V.
Should I lose hope at this point?

I'm pretty sure they're interviewing through March, so you still have time! They get a ton of applicants for a disproportionally small number of spots. Like most every school, they offer interviews for reasons beyond the numbers. Hopefully there's something on your application that makes you "pop"! Best of luck :luck:

Just declined my acceptance here yesterday. It was super tough to do but I hope one of you well deserving applicants make use of my spot. Good Luck! 🙂

They met yesterday, correct? Any acceptances today? When do they meet next?

I got waitlisted on 11/28. I sent an update letter/letter of interest last week. Here's hoping it makes a difference and I can get in today 🙂.

also, decisions came back in the afternoon when I got waitlisted.

I sent my LOI a couple days after being placed on the waitlist. I hope that the early letter doesn't put me at a disadvantage because it's not as fresh in their minds... My fingers are crossed. I think Wake is my only chance at going to medical school.

looking at your MDapps, it's kind of ridiculous that you haven't gotten more interviews/whatever. If a 3.6/32 can't get invites to at least bottom tier schools, then there is a problem with the system imo.

Maybe your essays are weak. Idk man. But gl, and hopefully we both get in today.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. Based on the results of my cycle so far, I think all aspects of my application are weak aside from my mediocre grades and MCAT. Other people have reacted similarly to you, so I think my problem has to lie in the essays or ECs.

Needless to say, I'm pulling hard for Wake Forest to come through, haha. Good luck to you as well!

Do you guys think sending a letter of interest would may be land me an interview?

Where have you guys been sending your letters of interest (LOI)? To the admissions office email or to a specific person?

Mine was post-interview and I addressed mine to Dr. David Grier, the associate dean for admissions. He is the one who signed the alternate list letter, so I figured it was appropriate to address it to him.

I attached my letter as a PDF and emailed it to the medadmit email address and just asked Irene to confirm the receipt and to please forward it to Dr. Grier and the Admissions Committee.

so either no one on Student Doctor got in this week, or we won't be hearing this week lol.

Yeah, I'm guessing nothing has been sent out because alternate list notifications also go out and someone would have posted about that. Maybe something in the next 20 minutes or sometime next week…

yeh i got an email a couple hours ago.. alternate list. guess it's time to write a LOI

I was alternate listed in December, I just withdrew my application. I didn't get the "fit" vibe for me at Wake, but I know it is really a great school. Best of luck to you all

So if we didn't get any email we're still on the waitlist?

How often do you think is too often to continue sending in LOIs? I'm planning on sending one in every month after the meeting... is that too much?

Not sure what you're going to say in all those letters...

I was put on the alternate list in October, sent a letter in early December, will probably send one more before mid march to make sure it's there before they have their final meeting.

Waitlisted today. I'll be pulling my application, I also didn't feel like Wake was a good fit for me. Good luck to you all!

I don't know either, but Wake is pretty much my only shot. I'm going to go down swinging...

I kind of feel that every month is too often. Sure, it expresses great interest, but I feel 2 very strong LOIs are better than 5 repetitive ones. I'm not sure if it would be viewed negatively, but they will probably sense some desperation after the 4th or 5th letter. I think you've already sent your first one already (if I remember your earlier posts). I'd suggest waiting until, at the earliest, mid-February. Then send a second letter that is more elaborate and really pounding the point home that you're a good fit for Wake and Wake is a good fit for you. Just my 2 cents 🙂

I'd wait until April ish to lay on all the LOIs. Since that's when most schools will start looking at their wait lists.

Just got an interview invite today! Weeeeeeeee. 3rd II this cycle. There is hope! Unfortunately the earliest date to interview was in March. I hope there are some spots left at that point lol. Hang in there guys. Btw I was just about to send them a letter of interest. But I guess I'll save that for after the interview now.

30P, 3.37 GPA, 4.0 Postbac GPA

congrats!!! when were you complete?

Anyone interview with *name here*? Anyone accepted?

you have two posts, both calling out interviewers by name. i think that's very inappropriate, and there's no good reason to be asking these questions anyway.

Anyone interview with John May? Anyone accepted?

I interviewed with Dr. Perry Cox, an attending who recently had a baby and oversees the residency program. I also interviewed with Dr. John Dorian, a quirky young medical resident who insisted I call him "JD". My last interview, strangely enough, was a man who simply went by the name "Janitor". He was pretty chill.

Hope that helps!!! 👍
