2013-2014 Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
How is the financial aid at this school? Last year's thread said it was quite bleak, which surprised me...

Got the waitlist email Friday morning, interviewed ~5 weeks ago.

Hoping for a lot of WL movement next month since the school is so new.

Yup! Seems decisions always come out Fridays (they meet Thursdays)

Thanks! I interviewed on 2/21, loved my experience there. I felt like I really hit it off with one of my interviewers, but I was very uncertain about the other one. Guess it turned out ok.
i interviewed on 2/28 and had the same experience as you...really hit of off with my first interviewers, and not so much with the other...hope i hear back soon...

ANYONE WHO INTERVIEWED ON 2/28 HEAR BACK YET?

Nope, I'm expecting we'll hear back from them tomorrow. I don't think I really hit it off with either interviewer, but I felt that they both went well, so hopefully it works out in my favor.

Yeah i think 2/28ers will hear back tomorrow. I did okay with my first interview, and hit it off with my second one

2/24er still waiting to hear back. Hopefully tomorrow

I would think they discuss two interview days every meeting as they meet once a week to discuss interviews, but they interview twice a week. I imagine both 2/24 and 2/28 will hear back tomorrow... hopefully.

I interviewed in March and they told us we would hear back before April 15th (next Tuesday) so I think they may discuss more than one interview day.

The class must nearly be full by now as well.

Yeah, because interviews have ended, I'm sure they are quicker as well now (since they were quite behind)

I don't think they are full just yet. Remember, they just got the okay to icnrease class size by 100%, something they weren't factoring in before.

Wait, don't you mean by 50%? I thought the class size increased from 60 -> 90 students.

Accepted!!!!! This is my first MD acceptance as well! I got the email exactly at 10am! Hopefully some other 2/28 interviewees got good news too!
Congrats! Are you a umass alum by any chance? I saw you over at the umass med thread haha 🙂

Is there any chance waitlist people hear back tomorrow?

Still no news... interviewed 2/24

Hmm odd, I know they accepted someone that interviewed on 2/28. I assumed they finished 2/24 and get halfway through 2/28 (i interviewed this day)

I wonder what order they are going in

Accepted just now. Interviewed 2/24. First MD acceptance!!

Congrats!

Rejected over here :/ 3rd time reapp here we go. I was hoping for atleast a waitlist as a dean of medicine at a reputable medical school , after meeting with me, said she knew the admissions at quinnipiac and would call on my behalf after my post-intv decision. Its much more akward for her to vouch for me after being rejected :/

Accepted! I interviewed on the last day in march. 30 mcat 3.72 gpa, Ill probably be withdrawing for another acceptance though

Sorry about the rejection! When did you interview?

does anyone know when we should be receiving our award letters?

Got an email that my award letter is ready but it requires a 7-digit QU student ID to log in. I don't think I ever received one

I found the 7-digit QU student ID in an email from Sylvie Hangen. I received the email 8 hours after the award letter email.

Haven't gotten my award letter yet :/

Looks like their sending it one at a time as they get ready instead of all at once.

Yeah same. Haven't gotten anything yet either. Damn it, I wanna know where I'll be for the next 4 years haha!

Hi guys, I got my financial aid letter email last night, and my QU ID this morning from Sylvie. Financial aid didn't even cover COA so I will be withdrawing. Good luck to everyone else!

How does that even work?

The financial aid I got didn't cover much more than 1/2 of total COA. And apparently they expect my one working parent to contribute nearly all of her money to help cover the rest. Time to take out loans and defer I guess.

Are you trying to pay for med school without loans? Also, can't you file your FAFSA as a head of household instead of a dependent?

Not quite sure, I was given around 30k of federal loans and then my family contribution is supposed to cover the rest.

I don't know why Quinnipiac couldn't even give us loans to cover the full COA?

The Stafford loans have a limit on how much you can take out each year (42k-ish I think). You have to make up the difference with Grad Plus loans, which are also from the government, but are less of a good deal.

I'm trying to pay for medical school with loans, but just loans with smaller interest rates. Also, the need access application asks for your parent's income regardless of filing the FAFSA as a head of household.

Aha, well then I'm an idiot because that's exactly what I got. I guess the rest is assumed to be covered by you/your family.

I believe the rates for Direct are 5.41% and PLUS 6.41, unless you receive scholarships/need-based aid/scholarships, to the best of my understanding you will need both, and possibly even private loans depending on your COL.
