2013-2014 George Washington University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I can't say if it is bad or good, but GW's Facebook page did post this the other day...

"If you are a current applicant and in checking your status through the online application web portal, you notice that the status of your application is on hold for re-review, please do not be alarmed or think that something is out of place with your application. Being put on hold for re-review is a normal part of the review process. Remember that we engage in a rolling admissions policy and there is no set schedule for re-review of files and we will be interviewing through March. When any decision is made you will be contacted directly and interview invitations are sent via email. If you have any updates to your file, make sure to submit them using the web portal at https://jboss.gwumc.edu/AdmissionsOfficeWeb/."

This is encouraging. I thought I remember reading (at the very start of the thread) some people saying that nearly everyone gets put on hold at GWU at one point or another.

II! Complete 8/19. Low uGPA, high postbacc, good MCAT. I don't know if I was ever put on hold, do they email you if you are put on hold? If so, I wasn't

Yesterday at this time, I was sitting on zero II, now here and UCSF. Wtf this process is nuts

My secondary was submitted the first day possible way back in July. I never had a status change.. It went from "complete" to my interview status. So I was never put on hold

I have low stats. Im probably in the bottom 5 percentile for MCAT. I will say that my EC are very strong and I am a good fit for the school. PM me if you want to know my numbers. I think the take away lesson is dont underestimate the importance of fitting the school's mission.

II!! I was complete 8/19. Check MD Apps for stats. I totally thought they skipped over me since folks who were complete around the same time got II earlier this week. Very happy.

II 9/27
secondary complete 8/1
OOS.
32N MCAT
3.75GPA

I was put on HOLD for rereview approximately a month and a half ago.

II, whoa! I was on hold for about two months, submitted in July, so there is hope 😀

People who were also on hold forever getting IIs? Must...not...get hopes up...

Ah, too late. They're up.

its saying you've exceeded the storage and need to clear some space..lol

Haha, now I'm back to checking 😀

I was neurotically checking at the beginning of the cycle but then realized Ill just get an email so i should try to keep myself sane. I no longer check more than, at most, once a week. Easier said than done haha

Pre-interview hold as well. I turned my secondary sometime in July...got it a good month or so before I was verified. But I'm guessing the general consensus here is that being put on hold is in fact a good thing?

Being put on hold is neither good nor bad. Most people who are getting interviews are a mix of not having a status change or were taken off hold. I think being on hold is exactly what it sounds like at this school.

just got an interview here. completely shocked. I interviewed here last year and ended up on the WL. did not expect them to call me back at all considering how many applicants they get. I feel blessed. FYI I was complete early July then put on hold mid-July. Did not send any updates or LOIs. Good luck everyone else.

Congrats! Was this an email invite?

yes. i believe that all interviews are sent via e-mail. My interview last year was sent via e-mail too.

Wow congrats. I thought after being on hold for so long it was pretty much a rejection. You've given the rest of us on hold hope lol.

Thanks. I recall having this same problem with the site last year.

II yesterday afternoon for late November. Non-traditional applicant, PM for stats.

Hey

congrats on the gwu invite. I was wondering if you would be willing to share your numbers...I only have a 29 MCAT with a terrible verbal score and sub par gpa, but currently doing fairly well in a highly rated SMP. I have pretty decent ECs as well...college athlete, leadership, etc

Thanks!

3.5 and sub 29 mcat with a balanced score 🙂

Nope and just graduated

I am working on George Washington University secondary and I almost done. Did anyone mention the Summer Pre-matriculation program for "What is your specific interest in the MD Program at GW? What opportunities would you take advantage of as a student here? Why? (2000 characters)".

I graduated in 2007 (URM, lower MCAT score, highish GPA) and although I took a couple graduate courses while I was working. I would like to have the opportunity to prepare me for medical school so I can be successful. Do you think that this is a good idea to mention? Or should I just stick to the other GWU programs, etc?

Are there any current GWU medical students in this thread who can talk about the summer pre-matriculation program?

Thanks!

Anybody interviewing here next week and somewhat worried about the status of the school? I'm also bummed D.C. is "shut down" right now! I'm OOS and was planning on sightseeing 🙁

what do you mean "status of the school"?

The status of the school should not have been influenced, so you are fine.

PS. I'm now positive that my app has been passed over... Complete mid July, sent the letter of interest several weeks ago, and still nothing..
