Georgetown University School of Medicine strives to ensure that its students become respectful physicians who embrace all dimensions of diversity. Please describe how any personal characteristics or life experiences will contribute to the diversity of, and bring educational benefits to, our student body. (c. 1,000 characters)

Why have you chosen to apply to Georgetown University School of Medicine, and how do you think your education at Georgetown will prepare you to become a physician for the future? * Please note: Essays should not exceed one single-spaced page at 12 point font (c. 5,000 characters).

Is there any further information that you would like the Committee on Admissions to be aware of when reviewing your file that you were not able to notate in another section of this or the AMCAS Application? (c. 1,000 characters)

Good luck to everyone applying! :luck:

Hey guys I already have my application processed but was thinking of adding this school, I was on the fence can someone give some insight on the school? How was the application process? Are they a complete numbers school, my GPA is lower but have 1000's of hours volunteering, shadowing, and leadership! Please any advice you can give would be great!

Is it unwise if I have not discussed Cura Personalis in my secondary essay? I will be honest, my personal collection of values that have led me to pursue a career in medicine very much align with Cura Personalis, but I did not know they had a name until I learned about Georgetown University School of Medicine. I have obviously described my personal values in the secondary essay, but I have not made explicit mention of Cura Personalis. Can someone a little more familiar with Georgetown University chime in here please?

Thanks!

Also, does anyone feel like chancing me?

sGPA 3.3, cGPA 3.3, gradGPA 3.85, 30S. 3 years research experience, 350 hours clinical volunteering, +200 hours shadowing, 3 student organization leadership experiences (including starting a clinical interest group,) and teaching assistant for two classes. Working class, but not URM.

Are there any current Georgetown students lurking around out there that can give any insight regarding trends they've noticed throughout their class? Georgetown gets over 10,000 apps--they have to have some kind of "type" they are looking for.

Did anyone get the secondary yet? If not, does anyone know when it'll get posted?

Haven't received one yet either.

+1. Checking last year's thread, it looks like normally they would've sent it out already...weird.

I wonder if they're switching to a new system or are changing prompts??

Does anyone know if they generally keep the secondaries the same year to year?

I'm wondering if I should email and inquire about this...though I've heard they don't have the nicest admissions staff :-/

If nobody has gotten a secondary, I can't imagine an email would do anything

Hey everyone!
Does anyone know if the MD/MA program at Georgetown is rolling admissions? The website says that the MD/PHD program is non-rolling, but it doesn't anything with respect to the MD/MA program.

Hey what do you think the policy is for "in the area" e-mails this early in the process? I have a Sept 5 interview in DC and it would be a nice break for my wallet to do both that weekend, but it seems SUPER presumptuous to send anything so early. I just hope they get the secondary out soon so that I can at least have submitted all my application materials before considering posing the question.

The 2010-2011 cycle: "Why us?"
The 2011-2012 cycle: "Why us?" and "Other comments?"
The 2012-2013 cycle: "Why us?" and "Other comments?" and "Diversity?"

Use your best judgement! But I'm not liking this pattern of x = y + 1 🙄

I was verified super early and haven't heard a thing. I say we wait.

I think the dual-masters programs are usually processed with the MD-only applicants. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Honestly, I would. I highly doubt they'll be receptive considering they haven't sent out a single secondary yet, but what's to lose?

GL, ALL!!

Where did you get your interview from, if you don't mind me asking? It's super early in the year, so I'm curious what schools are already giving out interviews.

Anyone having a problem typing their name on the application?

Quick question, based on their email, do you think I will get automatically screened out with an 8 on the biology section of the MCAT? I've received interviews from 3 MD schools with it (my overall breakdown is 11/11/8), but I am wondering if I'll be throwing away $130 based on that email lol.

I have a 7 in PS, but above 10 in both VR and BS. What does the email say? Do you think I'll be screened out?

"The Committee on Admissions carefully reviews all completed applications. At the same time, it must establish academic criteria to reduce the volume of seriously considered applications to a manageable number. The following information is provided to help you judge your competitiveness.

Those invited for interview generally present a mean science Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.6 and mean Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) scores of 10 for each subtest. Those considered competitive after interview have roughly the same academic credentials, stronger recommendations, and a more positive interview evaluation than those rejected after interview.

In 2011-2012, the School of Medicine received 12,250 AMCAS applications. Of the 7,793 completed applications, 1,119 individuals were interviewed to seat a class of 196 students. The Committee on Admissions strives for a diverse representation in the Class and reviews academic credentials, letters of recommendation, extracurricular activities, participation in health care experiences, and the interview evaluation when making its selections. More extensive statistical reports and information on application review criteria can be found in our Guide to Application."

I was just going through the Georgetown Guide to Applications and it states this:

"A non-competitive applicant has an 8 or less in either the biological or
physical sciences or a 7 or less in the verbal reasoning section."

I think everyone should apply regardless because other areas of your application may be strong enough to make up for the MCAT.

HERESY!
Increase the pool of competition?! Bah! I challenge you to a duel! Hehe

That is my hope, that other things will make up for it. I was just thinking thy since there are so many applicants that the easiest way to cut that list down is to actually screen according to what they say. But if that is not the case then I would definitely go for it.

Received secondary.
I have low stat though - 3.5c, 10,9,10. OOS
Their long email kinda scares me.. As if they are trying to say don't even apply if you are no where near those stats....

I'm applying with 12B:10P:8V, 3.3 c/sGPA, 3.85 gradGPA. Not sure if they give credence to grad work, but aside from that my numbers are low stat too.
(P.S. no such thing as OOS, D.C. isn't a state 😛 )

That's like 40% who didn't even complete the secondary. Is that a normal completion rate for all schools, or do people just see the secondary fee and run?

I always thought the MSAR data was "completed applications" but I guess not.

Secondary received - do they want us to attach an application photo or not? The guidelines very specifically say not to, but then it doesn't let you submit unless you fill out the post-submission section?

Nope. The huge secondary fee and long essays scare many applicants away (esp those w/o any specific interest in the school).

More like 60% but... Yeah not really normal. I'm sure the 130$ price tag has somthing to do with it. Most schools also don't get 10K+ applicants.

secondary finally!! hopefully having letter writers from their medical school works in my favor :luck:

for those who submitted, were you able to see your signature in the PDF review?

I have a 29 mcat, 4.0 gpa from UMich and a lot of extracurricular. Do I have a shot at an interview?

From their Website:
For the 2013 entering class, 12,250 applicants applied and 1,123 were interviewed. The applicants who enrolled had the following characteristics: mean science GPA, 3.68; mean MCAT, verbal 10.20, physical 11.01, biological 11.10.

GPA: A highly competitive applicant has at least a 3.6 BCPM GPA. A non-competitive applicant has less than a 3.0 BCPM GPA

Clinical experience: A highly competitive applicant has at least 200 – 400 clinical hours of experience.

MCAT: A highly competitive applicant has at least a 10 in each section. A non-competitive applicant has an 8 or less in either the biological or physical sciences or a 7 or less in the verbal reasoning section.

Their MCAT 10th-90th is 29 - 37, and their GPA 10th-90th is 3.38 - 3.96.

Beyond that, you've got to judge for yourself if you think you can convince them that you're interview-worthy. I could speculate, but I'm just another pre-med kid on the outside looking in 🙂

Did everyone submit their photos? B/c the instructions state not to... but I'm not able to submit the application without attaching my photo..

Just wondering.. did you have to upload your photo before you submitted? Thanks!
