2013-2014 Georgetown University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
yeah i wish they gave us a little more insight as to when we may hear that way the wait wouldnt seem so endless

I've heard the most movement happens from now to Mid-June, so good luck to everyone!

Does anyone know if CAP'd students can submit supplemental financial aid documents? I would love to be accepted, but my next concern is when we would receive financial aid information?

They didn't communicate this well but I called in early April and their financial aid office said the April 15 deadline was for everyone, regardless of whether or not you had been accepted at that point.

Does that mean I'm now excluded from the financial aid process? I'm on the CAP and had no idea about this.

I only decided to check because I was filling it out financial forms for other schools which had an April 15th deadline, even if you hadn't heard back by then so I decided to check with Georgetown too.

In retrospect I should have posted that info in here for everyone (omg am I subconsciously a gunner?!?) but it didn't cross my mind, so I apologize to everyone for that.

I have no idea how hard that deadline is but I'd call to ask. I highly doubt though they would deny financial aid though to someone they've accepted since once they pull you off the CAP list, they want you to come so they don't have to keep pulling from the list.

If I submitted my fafsa and added Georgetown to my list of schools, does that mean I am good? I am currently on wait-list too and didn't know they had this deadline but I submitted my fafsa early

They have their own application that you need to fill out that's separate from FAFSA and I believe it requires parental information. You also need to submit a copy of your credit report.

Okay thank you for your help!

I doubt this makes you a "secret gunner" lol
Was it just the NeedAccess.com application or they have an internal app? I will call them also but if it's something I can get started on this weekend I'd like to not fall further behind 😱

Thanks for your help!

Haha thanks. It's their own application, not need access. I've copied the link to the financial page and checklist from their app of what's required

http://som.georgetown.edu/prospectivestudents/financialaid/apply

"□ Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) using the school code E00518 (GUSOM); parent information must be provided.
□ Obtain a recent copy of your personal credit history (no more than 3 months old) – a credit score is NOT required.
□ Complete the entire Georgetown Application for Financial Aid.
□ Obtain a complete copy of your parent’s 2013 federal tax returns including all schedules and W-2 forms.
□ Mail the Georgetown Application for Financial Aid, credit report and parent’s taxes to the address printed at the top of the Georgetown Application for Financial Aid."

I was accepted off of CAP yesterday and submitted my enrollment form today. Interviewed February 18, invited for interview sometime mid December. Does anyone know if there's a Facebook page?

Congrats! The fb page is called: Georgetown SOM Class of 2018!

I withdrew from CAP a few days ago, good luck to everyone waiting!

I heard one SMPer got accepted yesterday around 6 pm. Anybody else got any news?

I'm confused... I know SMP-ers take some of the classes with MD students, but does SMP acceptances affect MD acceptances? I thought both programs are separate.

At the end of each year, those that finish the SMP program are offered spots into the incoming M1 year. So when we mean acceptances, we mean those students that were in the SMP program that are now accepted into med school. Does that help?

yes thanks!

Thanks for the good wishes!

I called admissions a couple days ago and they said when the letter writer pool is reviewed is pretty much arbitrary, but Dr. O'Donnell would probably be looking at it this week.

It didn't sound like they had too many spots to fill though :/

Thanks for the update! (Although I don't like to news too much)

For georgetown in their faq it says "MCAT
a. Committee on Admissions reviews the most recent MCAT taken by the
applicant.
b. A highly competitive applicant has at least a 10 in each section. c. A non-competitive applicant has an 8 or less in either the biological or
physical sciences or a 7 or less in the verbal reasoning section
."

I got a 7 in the verbal reasoning on my retake (others sections were 10 or above) and on my first mcat i took i got a 11 on VR. Does this rule mean I'm going to be auto-rejected? Seems a bit silly to only consider the most recent mcat. Any ideas?

You should call the admissions office and ask them. Or email Mrs. Sullivan. They are very nice and can answer questions like this for you. If this is the case for several universities to which you are applying, you may consider retaking it again and getting a better score. UVA admissions has stated at their open house that they do not review anyone below 8 on any section. I would imagine that it works exactly as you are saying. Sorry about your drop in score. 🙁

I just withdrew, I couldn't justify going here without any institutional aid when my other option would cost me almost $100,000 less overall. Good luck to those still waiting, I hope my spot goes to one of you!

A few GEMS were accepted recently. I think it was sometime last week...

My friend who's an SMP just got in today... waitlist still moving. Anybody hear anything?

how long does it take for fafsa to get back to you with financial aid? if i was accepted in the first week of june and committed that week, is it likely that i'll hear soon?

First year med at GUSOM - this is a great school. love it. anyone got q's I can provide answers
Hey! Although you posted this quite a long time ago, I have a question since I am currently on the WL class 2019. What are the specific things Gtown prides itself for? As a current student I know you have a much better grasp of this than I could by just gathering online information about Gtown. I would love to hear your response as I am getting ready to write a kickass LOI and who better to ask than a current student? Thanks!!!
