2013-2014 New York University (NYU) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone know what second look weekend is like? I actually have another second-look April 4-5 and I want to experience as much of both as possible. Are there a lot of activities planned for April 4 at NYU?

You should have gotten an email that links you to this e-card website. If you read the contents of the card it'll describe what's happening on each of the days.

Question for anyone who's done the 3 year MD application process: my understanding is you basically apply for the residency spot in parallel to your NYU application, which involves interviewing with the program director for whatever residency you want. Is that right? It seems like it would be pretty tough to do that at a pre-med level of experience. If anyone's done it, would be curious to hear about your experience with it.

does anyone know if wait listed candidates are invited to second look weekend? I have another one that weekend and am trying to make travel plans.

does anyone know about waitlisted students being able to apply to the 3 yr program?

did you not get the email they sent about the webinar? in that it says that waitlisted students can apply and the due date is the same.

So you guys just paid the deposit right? Nothing else? When are we supposed to send in our transcripts and to where (I've already graduated)?

can any who has sent in extra letters of recommendation as updates comment on how they submitted them? did you have them sent to AMCAS or did have the writer send them to the NYU admissions email address? thanks so much

Anyone have any idea on when the earliest movement off the waitlist is?

I had a similar question.

To answer my own question: I just went through last year's forum. Seem's like the earliest movement off the waitlist occurred around the 1st week of May....roughly 12 more weeks of waiting around. Students getting off the waitlist still were able to get full-ride scholarships and tons of financial aid. It seems as though NYU has more movement on its WL than any other school I've been reading about.

Waitlist decisions were also sent out later, though. The waitlist started moving around 1 month after final decisions went out. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

I called and checked. They take letters of interest and such but not additional letters of recommendation.

Has anyone heard anything about merit scholarships?

For most schools, most waitlist movement occurs around May since that is the deadline for applicants to only hold one acceptance. I'm not sure the ~1 month after decisions made will apply to is now since probably most people will be holding on to their acceptances until then.

Has anyone received a merit award from NYU? I remember Dean of Admissions saying these letters would likely go out sometime in February through March.

"Students getting off the waitlist sitill were able to get full-ride scholarships..." WHAT?!!? That absolutely blows my mind!

+1, anyone hear about merit aid yet? Or have any idea when awards will go out?

I got an email about financial aid today? I haven't read all the attachments yet though so I don't know if it includes anything about merit awards.

Was this a financial aid offer...or just information?

When did you submit your FAFSA? That's all that NYU requires right?

Just a 15 page PDF of additional information and a cost of attendance sheet.

I haven't submitted my FAFSA yet since my parents haven't filed yet, but from the PDF it looks like yeah that's all they require. You have to add in your parent information on the FAFSA as well if you want to be considered for merit aid though.

EDIT: It says offers go out March 31st.

can somebody please post the link to the nyu facebook class of 2018!!! i have questions and need to join!!! lol thank you so much! :-D

Yes, I sent a substantial update letter around two weeks before I was waitlisted.

Just to add another perspective to this, I also sent a substantial update letter (though it was right after being waitlisted), and have not heard back yet.

Thought I would add that I also got into NYU off the waitlist yesterday. Two weeks ago I sent in an update as well as a letter of continued interest. I also let them know that they were my top choice, something I do not say lightly. Good luck to everyone waiting!

Stats: 35 MCAT & 3.8ish overall/3.6ish science GPA

Congrats on the acceptances! Also a friendly reminder that the tertiary is due today at 11:59 PM EST.

Congrats, Amba! Just curious, did you use letter of intent / "NYU is my top choice" language in your update letter?

Thanks! And nope, no letter of intent language, just re-expressed my interest. But like I said, it was fairly substantial content-wise (something like ~6 abstracts and 2 publications).

Wow! Rock star over here! Congrats again!

Nah, just a full time researcher in a productive lab ha. Thanks though, and good luck to everyone on the waitlist!
Thanks Amba, I know at least I'm going to need it 🙂

Anyone hear about merit scholarships yet? it's suppoesd to be this week.

Where did you guys hear that it was this week? I thought they were announced in February?

for those of you who sent update letters, did you just upload them to the portal under additional documents or did you e-mail them to admissions?

Uploaded it. You won't get any type of acknowledgement that it was received (just fyi).
