2013-2014 Rush Medical College Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I really hope they also infer this information from our secondaries - the only two things I could relate were hospital volunteering with a school club I am involved with; didn't even list 3 community service activities because they were not central to my essay. This was a very jarring prompt for the amount of space we were given :/

The one posted under the "contacts" tab on msar.

Still waiting on the secondaries...AMCAS submitted on 6/26

i have a letter packet too. is there a way to select specific authors in the packet?
Does your letter packet consist of more than 2 letters? And did you figure out if there was a way to select specific authors within the packet? Thanks!

i have 5 letters in my letter packet. I dont think there is a way to select in the packet.I sent an email. No response yet.

I did too, but you'll probably get a response earlier than me. Could you please keep me posted? Thanks!

Trying to decide whether to apply to this school or Loyola Stritch. What are the main differences (if any) that I should take into account? I think I'm fairly competitive at both, but as I'm already applying to 30+ schools I'd rather not add both?

I can't submit also because of LORs missing. This really sucks : (

Question: Do they tell you in secondary to select which letter writers you want them to read? So if you sent 8 letters in a letter packet, but they only ask for 4, you would pick the 4 that you think are best based now hat they are asking?

Hi - would anyone mind posting the secondary questions? I just applied today!

1. Describe personal attributes you possess or life experiences you have had that will enable you to better understand patients with a culture different from your own. Please include your self-reflection on how this experience has changed insights, beliefs, and/or values. (1000 characters)

If you check "yes" for having volunteer experience:
2b. Based on these experiences, please describe what you learned through your involvement, the attributes you would bring to Rush Medical College, and the impact you would have on the greater Rush Community (2000 characters).

Thanks! That doesn't seem too bad. Just two questions?

These are annoying I know, but can anyone shed some light on my chances here? CA resident, 3.38 gpa/ 34 MCAT, good ECs, Hispanic...

How's your science gpa? Your overall gpa is a bit low, but your MCAT is solid and with strong EC's, why not apply?

Apply. That MCAT score is looking pretty good.

My science is a 3.2 I believe... How heavy is the in state preference? I just worry that my MCAT can only do so much...

Wait; by missing, do you mean there wasn't a box to check off the letter writers name?

No option and they haven't arrived in amcas yet. It's a committee LOR.... It's just silly that I can't submit until they arrive.

Yea, a lot of us are having that check box problem. I also have a committee LOR.

So is the consensus here that AMCAS has to have received all of the letters in order for us to see the checkboxes? All of the letters we designated for Rush on AMCAS that is.

Weird question, but did this secondary keep cutting off your last character? It will NOT keep my final period, :/.

It kept telling me I had two characters left, but it would cut off the last period too. I just had to delete the space between paragraphs out and it seemed to be happy. I think the character count just wasn't accurate or something.

Okay, figured it out for me too! I was at 997 and 1997, respectively, and if I got one character less, it was satisfied. Haha, thanks.

If there is a current student at Rush, it would be great to have your input on this!

And for those applying - why Rush? How does the school distinguish itself in your view?

I got a response from them today: "Thank you for your interest in Rush Medical College. We will choose the LORs at this end."

Is ANYONE complete yet?

I think we should all relax here. A lot of places haven't starting completing applications yet, and it appears from their interview invite schedule last year that we've got some time.

When did you guys submit your primary? Mine went in June 14 and still hasn't been processed.

Does anyone know when AMCAS sends the letters to the schools? I just got a confirmation that my last letter (committee letter) was received by AMCAS so I log in to the Rush secondary all excited that I can finally submit, and it is not showing up still. I assume AMCAS has to forward this letter first, but does anyone know how that works?

Nope… I sent this secondary in early last week and they still have my committee letter listed 3 times in my document status tab. Emailed them last week and didn't receive a response. Looks like we're all in the same situation, though…

So in order to submit the secondary do we have to have all our letters in to AMCAS? This is something I haven't ran into on any of my other secondary applications.

Okay so I was having this same problem until today--today my committee letter appeared as a box to check, even though it says Rush hasn't received it yet.

However, AMCAS just processed my committee letter today (it was sent thru VirtualEvals yesterday), so maybe AMCAS sent info to all my schools that they have the letter and the schools can download the letter whenever? However, that does not explain why Rush has the letter listed as an option to check and yet it's noted as not received. 😕 😕

I can check the letter off (even with it not being received) and submit my secondary whenever now, though.

Regarding birth certificates: They emailed me back and apparently they do see my birth certificate on their end even though it's not showing up as complete on my end. I just asked them to mark my application as complete since I'm finished with it. Still waiting for a reply back.

Letters not received anyone? I was that kid who submitted the moment the app opened 😵

It wouldn't let me submit my application until letters came in, is this supposed to be the case?

My committee letter has been marked as "received." It's still listed twice on my letter status, though… so I'm still "incomplete." They responded to my email today saying that they're trying to fix it.

Anyone having a hard time loading pages once logged into the app system?

Ok guys so in following this thread and working through Rush's secondary application, I am getting very confused.

Like many others, in the LOR section of the secondary application, there are no boxes for me to select which letters of recommendation I would like the admissions committee to review.

Should I/Can I bypass this page and go ahead and submit (even though the bottom of the page indicates this section of my secondary application is incomplete)? My committee letter will be sent by my undergraduate university to AMCAS shortly, will I have to wait for this letter to be received by AMCAS and then by Rush in order to complete and submit this secondary?

Thanks.

Yep… slow for me too.

Maybe that means they're fixing it? 😉

Or maybe that means their adding "interview" tab to people's applications- I really hope haha, then again I'm a dreamer...

Awesome, looks like they just updated the letters and marked me complete. Probably why it was lagging earlier.

marked complete...but I noticed that next to some of my letters, it says missing reference. what is that supposed to mean?
