2013-2014 Temple University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
:/ None for me. Oh well. Congrats to everyone else!

Congrats to those accepted. Anyone else in the same boat as me who interview a while ago (10/10) and still haven't heard back. I've called admissions but they have not been very helpful and told me to wait because the next committee meeting isn't until December 6th.

Congrats to everyone who was accepted yesterday! I, too, received an acceptance, but to my second choice campus. I'm obviously thrilled to be accepted to any campus, but what do you think the key is to getting into Philly? Thanks and congrats again! If you haven't heard back yet, just be patient. Silence isn't necessarily bad news.

You mean the Main campus is already completely booked?

Where did you find out/where can you see which campus you received an acceptance for?

Temple is pleased to inform me that I have been placed on the "continuing candidates" list. :/ Two waitlists back to back. Ugh. I LOVED Temple too.

It was mentioned in the official letter that I received in the mail. I was surprised because the email didn't indicate which campus so I just assumed Philly.

Not necessarily. I just think that they are being more selective with the philly campus since more people want to go there. They need to save some spots for future interviewers. They said they would consider me for philly if/when spots become available. So being accepted to a different campus is like being on the wait list for the philly campus but still having a back up.

Well, that's a bummer... By Philly you mean the main campus, right? Which campus did they accept you to then?

Has anyone on here been accepted to the 2/2 program in Philadelphia/Pittsburgh?

Thank you! When do you think I should send in a letter of intent?

Letter of intent? Big guns. If you are super serious, my guess would be sooner than later. I would defer to an opinion on this matter from someone with more experience/knowledge of the cycle, but it seems to be if your mind is made up there is no reason not to let Temple know how you feel. Any other thoughts?

What do people typically include in the letter of intent? And to whom is it addressed, the admissions committee? I definitely would attend Temple if given the opportunity, and the campus doesn't matter much to me (either way I will be a doctor), although I would prefer Philly.

This is probably a dumb question, but when it says "This acceptance is for the Temple and affiliates clinical campus" does that mean the main campus or the other campuses? I guess I'm not sure if I'm reading the letter right anymore.

Sounds like you were accepted to their affiliates campus

That's temple main. The affiliates for those of us at temple main include st Christopher's (for peds) and Episcopal (for psych). If you're at main you might wind up with a rotation at a site about a half hour away, but you'll mostly be in Philly.

That seems like a forum-search question. Last year I wrote mine to the adcom and said I would attend if accepted and included why I thought I would benefit the incoming class. Check the rest of SDN, though. I'm sure there's volumesof info out there on the topic.

That also includes Abington for IM, Surgery, Neuro, Rads, Family Med and/or Ob/Gyn; Jeanes for Neuro and a few other options, and Fox Chase Cancer Center for Surgery. That's all for third year and there are also elective options at those sites for 4th year, too. Keep in mind, when you're picking your third year schedule in the lottery, even if you're Temple main and affiliates, you might still get sent to West Penn, Geisinger or St. Luke's for one or more rotations, depending on the schedule you choose from what's available when your number is up. Family medicine rotation sites can be all over the state with at least one in NJ as well.

For our class, Crozer is actually part of Temple main and affiliates but I understand it's now its own clinical campus. I imagine it will be a possibility for your in third year just like West Penn, St. Luke's and Geisinger is for my class.

No II yet, still uder review since September. I guess no news is bad news!!!

Don't give up! I was under review since the beginning of September and I received an II last week. It's still possible to receive an interview! Good luck!

Thanks for your encouragement! If you don't mind, can you tell me your score and grade.

Sure. ~3.9/30. My gpa is above average but my MCAT score is nothing special. Just goes to show that the MCAT isn't the most important factor but it is important to have a decent score. Hope this helps!

Congrats! That's definitely helpful to hear as I've been complete for waht seems like forever as well 🙁

Would you mind sharing when the interview dates that were available were?

For those who have already been accepted, are any of you heavily considering or set on Temple?

Thank you!

They are currently scheduling up until December 12, with quite a few open spots on each interview day (as far as I saw on Tuesday when I scheduled my faculty interview). They conduct interviews on Tuesday-Thursday (December 3-5 and 10-12). Since they are scheduling up until the 13th, I think that might be because of the holidays with more interview dates being available after the holidays.

Wow! Sounds like they actually have quite a few spots left. Thank you! Congratulations again and good luck at your interview!

Thank you! I was surprised they were still scheduling interviews in December where other schools seem to be scheduling well after the new year (at least based off of other school specific threads). I hope you hear some good news soon!

Thanks. Congrats! I don't have high GPA and my MCAT is only 29. Hopefully, miracle does happen!!

My next sentence also says "You have the opportunity to experience your year 4 electives at Temple or at any of our clinical campus or affiliate sites." I thought yea

Pretty hard set, just gotta look into housing.

I'm told there's going to be a listserve for finding housemates/apartments. I'm just hoping there are more cat-friendly people than there were in my post-bac program. :cat:

Oh that'd be nice!

The list-serve, or living with my cat? he is a rather dapper-dan...

That cat is pretty awesome, but I'm allergic 🙁 My two dogs both LOVE kitties (in a friendly way), though, they'd sure want to live with him! My hubby and I are hoping to find a decent place to rent with a bit of yard for them.

Getting a little worried since it's been nearly 6 weeks since my interview at Temple. I left with great vibes for TUSM, so I hope no news is good news!!!

I'm at 7 weeks. Still says "interview complete" and no waitlist/acceptance/rejection.
Have they done (or do they do) post-interview rejections?

I haven't seen any post-interview rejections posted here yet, but I guess that doesn't mean much. Hopefully our applications aren't sitting in that pile!

That actually won't be too hard to arrange; there are a lot of nice-ish homes in South Philly with small yards. Transitional neighborhoods to be sure, but still, a completely tenable goal.
