Does anyone know what the GPA / MCAT numerical cutoff values are for the pre-secondary screen?

I would like to know this as well.

I did read a sample of a book "10 steps to accepted" by Dr. Mike Frazier, a former UCLA adcom, and he states that by "checking off 'disadvantaged' you can bypass the screen and someone will look at it"... Does anyone know how true this is?? He did warn that if you check that option, to really make sure you are disadvantaged...

If you check off disadvantaged, and it turns out (by reading through your app) that you are not, you will epically, and irreversibly, piss someone off who will prevent you from getting a secondary or invite.

Yup, that's exactly what he said in his book

Hey everyone -- applying here as an OOS student. Haven't seen a separate PRIME thread for this year, but I applied for UCLA/PRIME!

Applying with a 4.0/ 37, but as an international student. Chances are very low, but hoping for the best.

This has already been discussed in page 1 of this thread but the bottom line is there is no technical cutoff for either the GPA or MCAT in order to get a secondary.

Good luck!

Good luck! There usually is a separate thread to those that are applying to the UCLA/Prime program. Hopefully it should be up soon.

It is too quite on here! I hope that those applying enjoy some of their 4th of July... Or alternatively you can write secondaries all day 🙂 good luck and enjoy!

Trying to finish all the secondaries so I don't have to work on them on the 4th... That's for sunburns and fireworks. Happy 4th of July to you too, Juan Solo! 😎

I like your style. Cheers!

I have to wonder... was your last hour of posting sober or not? I mean you're trolling a SDN on a Friday night. It doesn't get much better than that :naughty:

Remember that time UCLA accepted a dude with a 22 MCAT at the beginning of the app cycle? lol

Any secondaries yet?

Looking at the topic from last year, there were a lot of questions with 800 character counts each. Do you know if you had to answer all of them?

Good luck everyone!

For last years application secondary you had to answer all of the short essay questions. I would assume that this years will be the same.

Good luck!

I see UCLA is taking their sweet time doing things as usual. Good ol' Geffen.

Anyone else got a MSTP email but can't login to their status?

Still debating whether I should add UCLA to my list ...

I'm OOS. Just average stats and I might ultimately end up having to take a math class before matriculation (Only have two stats classes + AP Math :/). Any thoughts?

Got the MSTP secondary, and am NOW able to login but wasn't 30-50 minutes ago. From the wording in the email the MSTP secondary ISN'T competitive? But from the wording on the supplemental application it DOES sound competitive. Seems weird, not sure which it is, but glad to get a secondary either way.

Do you think we'd have more leeway time-wise in turning this secondary in? It doesn't seem like they will start reviewing apps until December anyway. I'd rather work on more urgent secondaries first if that is the case.

I'm all caught up actually (was super proactive) so this one will get the full force of my attention for about a week or so. It's also one of my top choices.

how does being a disadvantaged applicant contribute to their decision in inviting you to fill out a secondary or interview?

Who knows? I don't think anyone can answer that question but the admissions office itself.

If you are interested in David Geffen and fall somewhere in their stat ranges then I would absolutely advise you to apply! If at the end of the cycle you want to make David Geffen your choice then you can worry about the math requirement down the road. Just my opinion.

Good luck!

It depends and it assessed on a case by case review of the applicant. Basically it is an additional piece of information that is taken into consideration for interviews and acceptances for your respective program that you are applying for.

Good luck!

👍 I have decided to add. Doesn't hurt to apply I guess. :xf:

Nothing yet on my end at least. Last year they were sent out around this time so they should be coming any time now.

Hang in there, you should start hearing something soon.

Let's go UCLA!! It's my second cycle and therefore my last chance for Geffen. It's time to start this. 😎

My guess is that they would be coming out latest by the beginning of next week.

Just got an email acknowledging application receipt... No secondary yet though

Hey I just got an email today saying this

"We have been notified by the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) that you have designated the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA as one of your choice schools.

Our Admissions Committee will be conducting the preliminary review of all our applicants through the month of January. Any additional information such as supplemental information, transcripts, letters of recommendation, etc. will be requested after initial review. David Geffen School of Medicine will only accept letters of recommendation via AMCAS."

Does that mean theres no secondary?!?!??
