2013-2014 University of Iowa (Carver) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Last year they came out ~14th 15th.

The last adcom meeting is scheduled next week weds.

Talked to a medstudent there and they heard something about decisions going out next week too.

I heard the same thing from a friend who is a 3rd year at Carver right now. For now good luck to everyone and if you are in school atm good luck on your midterms!

Hey all!

I know those of you who are still on this forum are probably waiting for the pool results to come back in. I know that's a rough road - hang in there!
I'm Justin, CCOM M3, treasurer in the Iowa City chapter of Phi Rho Sigma Medical Society. We're a 23 member co-ed house built for medical students, run by medical students. We're located about a four minute walk from MERF - easily the closest place you can live - and the house has a workout room, pool table, in-house laundry, wireless internet, microscopes, a lot of really cool housemates ranging from M1-M4 who can give you tons of useful advice, and most importantly, a cook who prepares 13 meals per week. Basic rooms are $545 a month with small additional fees for air conditioning and parking, but otherwise all other utilities, including food, are covered in the cost! It's an offer that's really too good to turn down: we have lots of current medical students at Carver who ask if they can live here after realizing what they missed out on. If you're interested in living here this summer or for the 2014-2015 year, email us at [email protected], and be sure to visit us on Second Look Day in April!

If accepted id love to

Weds afternoon at the earliest. Last year those who were accepted got an email saying so a couple days before people received snail mail alternate/rejections.

Looks like they might be doing things a little different this year & wait list/rejects may come electronically too.

With all of the AMCAS delays this year though.... Who knows, may not be till Friday deadline.

Alright so I did some digging on the forums last year. From what I could find the IS list moved at least 19 spots (I would imagine it moved quiet a bit more than that, but thats all I could find on the SDN forum) and the OOS list moved at least 30 spots. I've always heard that the IS list moves more than the OOS list, but that may just be speculation. Intuitively it makes sense, but no promises. Just thought I would put this hear just in case anyone gets wait listed on here this week. I'm crossing fingers for all of us, but if it happens know that hope is definitely not lost! Lots of movement on that wait list!

did you mean the opposite? That OOS moves more than IS? Because this is what I've heard

Can any current OOS students comment on what financial aid is like at Carver? You can PM me if you want to keep details private. I love the school, but the 75K/year pricetag is a little scary at the moment.

Were u accepted? I thought they send u financial award?

Any one notice they took down the 'Admissions Decision' tab on the secondary page? :wideyed::nailbiting:

That means the final decisions are probably coming soon!!

U just made my stomach drop..... Glad I'm not the only one checking that page all the time 🙁

Do u think it will be today?!?

Do you guys have a rural program tab now on there too?? Definitely changing something on the site

Yes it does.

Are you IS? Pretty sure this program is only for Iowa residents.

Any IS that interviewed and DONT have the rural tab?

Could be a bug. I had a secondary page from a school ask for "matriculation information". Turned out to be a bug

Looks like u have good news

I'll be cautiously optimistic. Really don't wanna get my hopes up, only to be rejected.

I keep checking the page to see if it'll go away, but it's still there

OOS and don't have anything, Admissions Tab is definitely gone though

I assume the rural tab is for the program CRISP - which you can apply to/start the summer before M1

Ugh why did they make your different hopefully they tell us tomorrow I'm in now complete worry mode ;(

wait i'm IS and have the rural tab. what could that mean?? i don't want to get my hopes up either ughhh why are they doing this to us so close to releasing admission decisions

guys don't lose hope yet! for all we know the tab could just be a glitch in the system.

Does anyone who has already been accepted have that tab?

Just to add another datapoint, I was accepted a few months back (IS) and have that tab. But don't lose hope guys! It's not over 'til they actually send you something!

Then if ur accepted and have it pretty sure that isn't good for us lacking it ;( ugh going to go crawl in corner! Does anyone oos have it? Or is it just is?

If you look at the rural scholar page it says that it is only open to Iowa residents... Might still be in luck for OOS

Who knows, could be a huge mistake and the ppl that do have it are the ones rejected. I am thinking we'll hear news tomorrow though

Good luck all

The applicants next cycle are going to be furiously refreshing their page looking for the sacred Rural Tab if this turns out to be an indication of acceptance

If we're out of state, we aren't eligible for CRISP and there's no way we would have the rural program tab...

Right?

That is the impression I'm getting. For sure CRISP is just for Iowa students, but I don't know if they have that tab for OOS students that have been accepted too as just an informational type of thing. Any accepted OOS wanna comment?

So I can't look at this board anymore will someone pm me when it finally post thanks

Good luck to all!!
