2013-2014 University of Miami (Miller) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
They replied after I sent my first update after my interview. Then when I sent in my LoI i had to follow up a week or so after and they replied. For my most recent update they still haven't replied but I will assume it has been added to my file
How did you follow up? Did you send another email or did you call?

This is regarding Dean Weisman...

I have a friend that was accepted on Tuesday off the alternate list! Good luck to everyone!! Can't wait to meet my future classmates 🙂

Same here OOS 3.6/37. I was also accepted recently from the alternate list. Who do I contact for the facebook group?

I think the wait-list movement slows down quite a bit after May 15th....

Do you think that means that they have made most of their decisions by may 15th? Or that they just stretch out the calls?
Given that Miller already has way more candidates than its final class size, I'd assume it slows down because the rate of accepted applicants dropping their acceptances declines precipitously after May 15. The AdCom will only look at the remainder of the wait-list once another spot opens up.

I see. I can't handle waiting any longer, but I have no choice 🙁

Right there on that boat with you. It's literally the most nerve-wracking and frustrating period of my life. Been hanging on this wait list since December!

Contacted admissions and the class is full, which is to be expected. All movement, if any, from here on out is dependent upon wait list movement at other schools.

Time to start the reapplication process for me 🙁 including an MCAT retake

Does this mean they have 200 seats filled? Or the ~370 acceptances they give out? Did they accept over 150 candidates since May 15?!

I think they have filled 200 ( really 198 I think) seats and will make calls as people withdraw their acceptances

well this has been the case since the start, I guess the question is how many of the ~130 they usually accept from the wait list have already been accepted. I.e. what proportion withdraw due to May 15 and what proportion withdraw due to waitlist acceptance elsewhere. I suppose the amount to come off the wait list at this point is pretty small though

I JUST GOT IN TO THE MD PROGRAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd assume the same. MiaME got in just now though so that is promising!

3.93 cum, 33 MCAT, OOS, interviewed back on January 13, was wait listed on 2/5.

Now that the Memorial Day weekend is here, all of us waiting 9-5 pm for a phone call can finally take some time off for the next three days and breathe a little.

so from the sounds of it, probably not more than 10 acceptances left to give out from now until matriculation?

Got accepted off the waitlist Friday May 23 @ 9:30 PM Miami time. Phone call from Dean, then emails. Keep your hopes up people!

Congrats!!! That's awesome! Personal call from Dean Weisman at 9:30 pm?! Bet you weren't expecting that haha.

Long time lurker. Decided to post because I know posters (especially notaticket lol) have been on this message board for months posting, waiting, and hoping, and I'm really rooting for you guys. I was in your position not too long ago and was accepted off the waitlist shortly before May 15th. In my case, I have very good reason to believe that a heartfelt letter to the dean expressing my interest in the school was a big part of the reason I was accepted. The waitlist may be ranked, but I think acceptances are also at the dean's discretion. Keep updating Miami and also don't be afraid to make a direct case in writing for why you in particular would benefit from medical education at UM. Dr. Weisman is definitely reading these letters.

Most of the acceptances have already probably happened, but if past years are any indication, there will be a few more. I wish you all the best of luck!

Thanks a lot for this! I called the admissions office earlier today and feel really sapped out because they haven't had any movements in their list for the past couple of days, and they don't expect much more movement from this point on. Reading your post though kind of upped my optimism. Maybe that's foolish, but it's all I've got now...

(Appreciate the call-out, too, by the way 😛)

It's all I've got as well 🙁

Every night before bed I sing Frozen's "Let it Go" to myself as a reminder that I should stop expecting good news.

But I wake up and start singing "I got a feelin' that tonight's gonna be a good night!"

Such a vicious cycle.

Just curious- Do you have another acceptance in place?
