Will do, wacks. But when you're praying, make sure you ask that that girl from SDN gets in. 🙂
I do...why?Just wondering, do you guys still have access to your interview portal?
I have class at 8 am... can't decide if I am going.
Is our rank list supposed to disappear? Mine disappeared today after the deadline..
Background info on me: I live in Houston and would love to go to school here because I could live at home with my family. I have no definite feelings about what I would like to specialize in but want to keep all my options on the table.
If the incredible scenario arose where I would have to decide between UTH and BCM, I was wondering if one would be better than the other if I am interested in a competitive specialty?
Can anyone speak to how necessary it is to have AOA membership for competitive residencies?
Since I would imagine it is harder to get AOA at BCM vs UTH, I'm wondering if its better to have a killer step 1 with AOA from UTH or a killer step 1 with BCM's prestige without AOA for myself?
If you look at the residency director selection factors you'll see that the LORs are rated higher than AOA, class rank or med school reputation in all the competitive specialties. This means that connections and great mentors who will write you LORs will probably go farther than being at the top of the class (assuming the same other factors). Also, getting AOA at any school will be tough and UTH is no slouch.
But if you look at match lists for any school by their medicine and general surgery matches you will see they consistently match at more prestigious institutions in accordance with their own reputation and their is usually a home team advantage for each school. Many believe where you match is entirely individual effort and cite these match lists as a product of the students at these top schools while others cite the reputation of the schools themselves. It is probably somewhere in the middle slanted more towards the individual. As with almost anything academic, as you move up the so-called hierarchy pedigree begins to matter more.
No one got officially accepted to a&m yesterday. Some people had some status changes to accepted but they aren't official and they were changed back.
It's not official at all; just a status update that lasted for a few hours. Personally though I wouldthink come Monday those who showed accepted will in deed match. The schools know by now whos matching so perhaps they were uploading info so it could be released in a timely manner on monday? Who knows.
How are UT Houston students graded during the clinical years?
Definitely people have interviewed at 3+ schools and not mached. If i recall correctly, someone from an old thread had 5 interviews with no match. Im sure its happened to an URM too.Hey quick question before the big day... Has anyone applied and interviewed at multiple schools (at least 3) and never matched anywhere, albeit, being a URM and IS
Accept any offer you receive. I believe If you get taken off the wait list to another school, you have a 2 week period to accept that new offer.Congrats guys! I was wondering if you get accepted to a school that's not your first choice and you want to see if waitlist will work, do you still accept at the school you matched or just wait?

You continue with the acceptance process to the school you did match to, then if you get accepted off the wait-list then you withdraw from the school you matched to.Congrats guys! I was wondering if you get accepted to a school that's not your first choice and you want to see if waitlist will work, do you still accept at the school you matched or just wait?

I know last year UTMB told us that they did not rank their wait list. I don't believe that, haha, but they won't tell you if your high or low on their list. I'm not sure about UTH. I believe everyone who didn't match at UTH will be placed on the wait list, but i'm not sure if they rank their wait list or not. I'd ask later this week or next week if they don't send you an email saying you have been wait waitlisted.Congrats to those that matched! To follow up on Wacks' point, do we have to actually do anything about the wait list or call UTH and see how far down the list we are? Or do we just keep waiting and will be notified if we get off of it? This can go till May, latest?
Congrats to everyone who matched! I'm very excited that we'll be welcoming a new group to the UTH family!
For anyone who did not match, please do not lose all hope. I, myself, did not match last year and today I'm well into my second semester at UTH (my top choice) and loving every minute of it.
For UTH you do not have to call to be placed on the wait list, you are automatically placed there (it may work this way for all TX schools in the match). I believe last year they tweeted
something to this effect. (Follow them if you're not already doing so.) I can't remember if UTH admits to ranking the wait list or not, but I do remember they will NOT tell you where you are ranked if they do rank the list.
Feel free to PM me if you find yourself needing a little encouragement or if you have any questions.
Just got it as well! Thanks for the info! I just got the waitlist email and they said that it is a ranked list and, no, they won't tell us our rank.
I also just got the email even though I matched to a higher ranked school. Wonder if I should email them sometime this week and tell them or if it's just an email sent to all interviewees who didn't match.
I think it's sent to everyone. The email has a disclaimer that says "unless you matched at a higher ranked school...."

Interesting. I mean it cant be that hard to direct the email to only those who matched to a lower ranked school.I think it's sent to everyone. The email has a disclaimer that says "unless you matched at a higher ranked school...."

Thanks!
Hi guys! I just thought I'd let you all know that I called UTH today because I felt really uneducated about the wait list process, and the only information that I got was that the class size is 240, the wait list period goes all the way up to june 1st, and an executive board decides who gets off the wait list and who doesn't. I asked about how long it takes for wait list movement to start, and they said it depends. for example, if someone declined their match offer after february 3rd (immediately), that doesn't necessarily mean that a wait list spot will be taken up immediately as well. the whole board sits down and meets about it and it may take them up to a week to decide who gets off the list. i'm not too sure how this plays into the ranking but i was given the impression that regardless of ranking, a whole committee must meet to accept any additional students. this takes them a while usually, and most movement happens in April or May. also, a lot of movement happens around the time Baylor starts to give out acceptances. when UTH-matched kids get Baylor acceptances, they drop their UTH acceptance and go to Baylor (depending) and then the spot opens up but may not be filled until weeks later. idk if any of this is new or not but i thought i'd relay the info i got just in case! fingers crossed…
I didn't know some of this. Thank you!
Yeah, I got waitlisted as well... was too upset to write on here on match day.
Technically, you shouldn't have to do anything. However, since you received that email, I would first contact UTH to confirm your acceptance (me being neurotic), then contact the other school and let them know you match to a higher school.I was under the impression that if we matched to a higher school (this school for me) that our pre-match offers would automatically be withdrawn, but I received an automated email from merlin at another school with some email communication regarding further action. Are we supposed to send a letter to officially withdraw a pre-match offer? I'm concerned that its been more than 2 weeks and I may have been holding more than one acceptance inadvertently. I'm IS. Not sure if that changes the response to this process.
