2014-2015 Drexel University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i interviewed a month before you and my file also has not been sent to committee yet. i called and they had said it's no indication of whether you will be accepted or rejected, so i wouldn't come to any conclusions until you actually hear back!

edit: oops, meant to reply to @premedgirl24 's post!

Yea I interviewed 10/16 and hasn't been sent to committee yet.

Septa rail has a station a block away from Drexel. If you search for SEPTA regional rail you'll be able to get the time schedule from the site. I'd recommend you going a bit early in case of any delays if you decide to stay in center city.

tomz, I glanced through your post history and didn't see anything about housing (but I may have missed it)...if it hasn't been asked already, do most people live nearby or do they live far enough that they have to commute? Where would you recommend housing? When I went for my interview, I saw some apartments along Gypsy Lane (I think that's what it was called?) which is pretty close to campus...do a lot of people stay there? One last thing, would you say the cost of living in the area closer to DUCOM (like the area a little further out from the city) is about the same as living closer to the city?

Not sure where the study lounge is I feel like I should go revisit the school. Are you a current student are you IFM or PIL

Yea, I am a current year 2 IFM student. Just message me and I'll show you around if I'm on campus that day. 2 hour street parking is available near the campus if you don't want to pay the 5 dollar guest parking. There isn't any security watching your car though, so don't leave anything in the car.

Some people live across the street in those apartments, a bunch of people live in the Alden Park apartments or apartments in that general area. I live in Manayunk and drive to school. Some other classmates live in Center City/Art museum area and take the shuttle or drive.

I'm sure some current students will join the facebook group and provide more information about their living situations if you ask. I like my row house that I'm staying at - Manayunk is a pretty safe area, but the parking really sucks.

It really depends on what you like, there are pros and cons to each. (Living in the city gives you more access to stuff, but living nearby makes it easy to get to class, if you have a car, etc). I'm not sure about the cost of living in the area close to DUCOM versus living in Center city. I know Manayunk is a little more expensive, parking is bad (but free), but it is safe. I recommend using something like padmapper to check the prices of the apartments in the area to compare.

Is there a facebook group for those accepted already? I tried searching, but couldn't find anything.

Got it, I'm definitely going to look into the places you've mentioned. So I'm guessing a car would be useful but not entirely necessary? And thanks for answering all these questions, you've been super helpful in this thread!!

Yea no problem at all. You'll need a car for year 3 to get to some rotation sites. Though I'm not exactly sure about that yet - I'm planning to go back to Sacramento, but someone else can probably elaborate more on this.

Well, after interviewing October 23, my status changed to being reviewed by committee member pretty much right away. Then, few weeks later by the admissions committee, and now today, December 5, to decision has been made. It's a long process, and I'm going to look forward to the letter soon! Best of luck everyone. This process is really so long!

Has anyone accepted sent in the info the requested and gotten more information back? I haven't gotten anything yet and sent it 1.5 weeks ago

I got a letter in the mail thanking me for the deposit approximately 2 weeks after I sent it in.

I interviewed the first week of November, and my status still says "your interview has been scheduled." Is anyone else in the same boat?

So they do give you a confirmation when they received it?

Yes. Login to your portal and check admissions status, it will say deposit received. They'll also send you a letter with a reminder to do the child abuse forms.

Has anyone that has been accepted been able to access the Certiphi background check mentioned on the acceptance letter? Or will we be getting that later on in the cycle?

Chances of there being available interview dates for the remainder of December? I currently have an early Jan. interview date, but trying to gauge whether it would be worth it to try and schedule an earlier date.

It says we will get it a few weeks after the acceptance.

"The Admissions Committee has reached a decision on your application. A letter will be mailed to your preferred address."
😵

where do you see your status updates - is it when you login and hit "to view your decision click here" on that next screen that pops up? i interviewed 5 weeks ago and it still says "Your interview has been scheduled. If you've already appeared for the interview, your file will now progress through our Admissions Committee process. Please watch for updates and allow 8 weeks for a decision." ...not sure whats up

That is where you'll see any change. That just means your packet isn't up for review yet. It can take several weeks before its under review, you just gotta be patient.

Hey congrats everybody!
I, however, am worried-- I interviewed in early October and sometime in the last couple weeks my status changed from "under review" to "decision reached" ... not FINAL decision. In past years this seems to mean I'm on the wait list, but it seems that some people get final decision letters after just a "decision reached" update. Is that true? Should I not get my hopes up since it has been so long (just over 8 weeks)?

The past lingo is no longer valid. I got "decision" and got accepted! good luck! Also, it took about a little over a week almost to get my letter.

Thanks! How long did it take you to hear back after your interview? I interviewed in early October and I'm just now hearing... So nervous.

Does anyone happen to know how much the student interview is weighed vs the faculty interview?

I interviewed in late September and it took them six weeks to make a decision, and another week for me to get my acceptance letter. I'd imagine they're more backed up now, so it can take the 8-12 weeks that it says in the portal.

Interviewing here soon. Does anybody have any helpful tips on what to expect? I have officially entered nervous mode.

If definitely varies from person to person. I interviewed Oct. 17th and my acceptance letter was dated Nov. 3rd while my friend who interviewed the same day received his acceptance in early December. I'm guessing it depends on how fast your interviewers submit their evaluation and if they have to be at the admissions committee decision meeting (I don't know how the process works). But it seems the length of time is irrelevant to whether or not it means accepted/rejected/waitlisted.

tomorrow makes it 7 weeks since my interview.... still under review
