2014-2015 Jefferson Medical College Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The Admission FAQ's on their website states "If individual letters are sent, we prefer one biology, one chemistry and one physics and one humanities. You may direct exemption requests to the Committee on Admissions using the optional information section on the Secondary Application."

Did anyone include why you submitted different letters than the ones preferred in the optional section?

No, but I did email Dr. Callahan about it. I guess I should have included it in the optional section as well.

You know, preferring one letter from each area of the sciences doesn't seem to be any more useful to me. The fact that a recommendation writer is a bio or chem or physics professor isn't really going to help them talk more about the applicant. If adcoms are worried about performance in those areas, the transcript does the job well.

I wonder why they have this stipulation for individual letters.

What kind of response did you get? I didn't include anything about letters in the optional section because I thought it was a recommendation rather than a requirement (somehow missed the exemption request part of their FAQ though). I have two biology, one bioengineering, and a humanities. Does anyone have an idea of what would be deemed acceptable for exemption? Both my chemistry and physics professors were visiting for the semester, and one is long gone in a different country and the other is working in industry somewhere.

She basically said it's just a recommendation not a requirement.

Thanks, that puts my mind at ease. I guess I'll give them a call on Monday just to see if they need an email exemption from me, but it looks like I'll (hopefully) be fine.

Can you let us know if they say we need to email them? Thank you!

I only submitted rec letters from Bio & chem, but I still got an II on the first day. Don't worry about the LOR requirements too much!

anyone has a problem with difficulty with submitting the application?

I submitted it yesterday. The first time when I tried to submit, it didn't work and I had to do it again. The second time I'm pretty sure I submitted the application but the status page still says "secondary not received". However, I'm not able to access the activate form again because that form said I already submitted. Does it take a while for Jefferson to process the secondary and show it on the status page? Has anyone encountered this problem?

Hey @TheLionheart and @adimelon I have an answer to the LOR question. The admissions office sent me their official outline for LORs, but essentially they're fine with whatever you have. I have two bio, one engineering, and a humanities and that was fine with them. She wasn't clear on whether they need anything in writing from us (although the outline seems to imply that they don't mind clarification), but I got another attachment that basically said "we are pleased to accept your LORs in lieu of the required letters..." so I'm not going to bother them with anything else. Let me know if you guys have any other questions. Basically, we should all be fine!

Not sure if this was already asked, I didn't feel like reading through 8 pages. But those of you who did the optional essay on the secondary, did you have formatting issues? I typed it in by separating paragraphs but on the review page it bunches everything together into one large paragraph.

Same. I think that's just how it is for everyone.

I think we would be more interested in the actual date you submitted it 😛
Well personally I am more interested in a tad of anonymity. Let's just say I was prompt in my time to get my application materials in at every step possible. 😀

If people pm them to him he will post them. He isn't going to search each thread for the prompts.

The secondary prompts are the same as last year.

Website. Go to check secondary status, and everything before Interview should say "Yes"

does jefferson review your app for interview consideration before receiving your LORs?

This can be fixed using html coding. Specifically <br>.
