2014-2015 Loyola University Chicago (Stritch) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
anyone know if/when Loyola is finished with sending II? would it be worth it to still send an update at this point?
Not to be a jerk, but I've literally posted this answer twice in the past week. I know there are a lot of lines in this thread, but unless you're asking a very specific question, the question you have has probably been answered already.

Edit: Adcom told me they're sending IIs through the end of the month.

I think next week is the last week they're interviewing (someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)...but if you haven't been rejected, I don't see any harm in sending an update. For whatever it's worth, I got an ii about a week and a half after sending a pretty lengthy update

This is kind of silly, but does anyone know if Loyola calls your EC contacts (or does anyone have a contact that was called)? I'm definitely being over paranoid, but I found out my manager that I listed no longer works for the company I put down, so I'd hate for them to call and find out that person is no where to be found and can't vouch for me lol

I doubt it- I accidentally put an email down as "[email protected]" and didn't catch it but it didn't seem to matter as I was accepted 😉

LOLL...you always seem to have the right answer haha. Thank you!!

I'm glad I can help! When I realized that I put that I almost had a heart attack. And then debating saying something but I didn't want to draw attention to it if it would never come up. And it didn't!

ah yeah I thought I remembered it being answered but then I tried to search it and wasn't able to find it so I just wanted to ask again for the most updated answer. Thanks though! just sent in my last update.

Do students have to pay for a gym membership? Thats what my student guide said but I've heard conflicting reports. I assumed it would be included in tuition

Some more questions! So, for any M3/M4 students that peruse this thread (or M2/M1 students that hear about it), how do students go about choosing their rotation sites? Do they actually get to choose, or is it assigned?

How do students feel about having to do off-site rotations at other hospitals; do students generally like the other hospitals, or do a few have "bad" reps? I'm not sure how I'd feel about West Suburban or Saint Joseph. I also heard the Gottlieb closed down, but I think that's incorrect, since their site is still up. Thanks!

Not to sound uninformed, but I didn't realize students went outside Loyola and the VA. Where else do they go?

Well, as far as I know, they also have rotations (some optional, some required), at places including Hinsdale ortho, Lutheral General, Resurrection, Gottlieb, West Suburban, Cook County (Stroger), Central DuPage, Alexian Brothers, Saint Joseph, and John Madden Mental Health Center.

I'm just not sure about how assignments work (you get to choose, or are assigned and have to drive away).

1. Gym membership is included in tuition. It's all a part of the body-mind-soul balance. There's additional fees for specific classes, permanent locker rental, etc. Students' partners can also join the gym for a reduced membership fee.

2. I'm only an M1 so my understanding is that rotations have tracts that determine the order you do rotations (ie surgery first vs internal med first) then you can pick sites by a lottery system.

3. The sites appeal to different people. Like predominantly spanish-speaking populations for those certified in medical Spanish. And sometimes it's luck of the draw...

Hey All,

Sorry if this was already addressed above, but what is the typical turn around time between interviews and decisions? Seemed like it was about 2 weeks for the last batch. Congrats to those in and best of luck to everyone 🙂.

Any recent IIs? I reckon this is the last day anyone might be receiving one.

Maybe they just haven't reviewed our applications yet?

Just got the alternate list letter in the mail. Better than a rejection! Now I just have to wait until May to find out if I'm going to medical school Ahh. Interviewed 1/28.

good positive outlook.

Have any of you guys received word back from Loyola after sending in your financial aid information?
I'm going on 4 weeks since my packet was delivered

Did you get a packet from Loyola about financial aid? I only filled out and submitted the FAFSA but haven't heard from them since my acceptance letter

I interviewed in January and it was in my packet of info they gave us that day. It's due March 31st for incoming students, too.

Yea they'll send you a packet with instructions and tasks to complete (sending in tax forms and such).
Unlike NachoPlatter, I received mine in the mail but it's most likely the same thing.
I sent an email to financial aid today and I'll report back once I get a reply!

Yikes, so filling out FAFSA wasn't enough? I emailed the admissions office about any follow-up after turning in my letter of intent and they told me to just hold tight

FAFSA is a large part of it but the office wants your tax forms (or a waiver if you're not filing) and your parents' tax forms (waiver if they're not filing) as well.
If you didn't get a packet of info I would call or email the office

In a related note, the financial aid office told me that my financial aid file will be processed sometime in April and at that time I'll receive my LOCUS account information and my award letter.
Just to provide a general timeline, I submitted my FAFSA in January and sent in Financial Aid Packet in February.
Hope this helps some curious people out

Thanks so much for sharing! I thought I was late to the party. My fafsa was just processed and I still need to submit the Loyola packet, so it seems like I still have some time left.

Did anyone accepted on 2/23 receive their packets yet? I have been out of town and was just wondering if someone could give me directions on what to do to accept my spot. Thanks!

Yes, I received the acceptance letter + declaration of intent in the mail 2 days ago. To accept your spot, you fill out the declaration of intent and mail it back to them (business reply email supplied).

Did it have a deadline to be postmarked by? I cannot do that until Monday.

It says two weeks within the acceptance date, which is indicated as 2/24 on your acceptance letter. Given the ~1 week it takes for the mail to arrive, I would think there is some leeway to this deadline. If admissions is strict about this time frame, you could check to see if emailing a scanned copy of the signed form will suffice.

Perfect! Thanks so much!

I just received an invitation to interview at CMS. I was already accepted at Loyola SSOM in November, and was absolutely in love with the school. In the 10 minute comparison I did between the schools it appears that Loyola is slightly cheaper, closer to downtown Chicago, and has higher overall statistics/better rankings. The facilities (photo comparisons) appear to be much newer and Loyola's rec center inside the medical school building wowed me, which really shouldn't be something I make my decision on but it was impressive.

I would like opinions on whether or not it worth is for me to interview at CMS? I am OOS and it is expensive for me to arrange to travel/stay there in order to interview when I would probably end up going to Loyola anyways. What do you think, what would you do if you were in my situation or accepted to both??

Well what are the most important things for you in a medical school?

I'm excited to see you all there! Anybody staying at nearby hotels the night before?

Hah, and I say that in a strictly social, non-promiscuous way. I was only thinking we could form a group meet-up and hangout the night before.

Did you get more information other than the date, and that it's about 9-4:30? It says optional programming after/ the weekend but where are the details on that?

To be honest, I'm not really sure!
