2014-2015 Loyola University Chicago (Stritch) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
does "on hold" mean they already assigned a priority number for you? im guessing that's why it changed and everyone's application may automatically go on hold unless theyre autogranted interviews.

quoting again because this is a good theory. hold means you're given a priority number and you're taken off hold and given an interview once (or if that priority number is reached). think that's right?

I don't think there is any evidence to suggest what you are saying. You really think they are going to rank all 9000 applicants and give them a priority number? If you look at threads from previous app cycles and what @M.MD has posted about the status updates, you can get pretty clear idea of what is going on.

Finally submitted! This was my longest turnaround yet. 🙁

29. So I am at the 10th percentile there also.
My GPA is in the 90th percentile, and I feel I have a pretty good story/EC's

I'm applying here with a 33 (PS 9, VR 12, BS 12). I know that my unbalanced score may mean I'm wasting my time and my money, but I'm okay with it. I personally don't think it's unreasonable to apply with your numbers; however, it would be unreasonable to feel entitled to an interview. As long as you understand your chances (which I think you do if you're quoting MSAR statistics) and have enough resources to apply to a large number of schools, send an app. Loyola's a great school. Anybody else want to chime in here?

I am in a similar situation as you but I disagree with the "wasting your time and money" part. We still have great scores and even our lowest subscore is good for many schools

I say you throw out an application. What can it hurt? It costs you like 80 bucks for a chance at a career you have dreamed about for years.

Oh, I don't disagree with you there. My 33 and your 34 put a lot of schools in our reach. That being said, I understand that some schools may refuse to interview someone with an uneven score in favor of an applicant with an even one. Especially a school like Loyola that receives thousands of applications from qualified applicants. The whole point being the "wasting your time and money" statement was me communicating that I understand the potential for my application to be thrown out on account of the 9. It wasn't meant to discourage anyone.

Yeah I mean if it were me, I'd probably choose an 11/11/12 over mine if I had somebody identical in all other aspects. Just crossing my fingers they don't care!

Lolz. It changed between the 10 minutes before you posted when I checked the first time, and now, when I neurotically checked again.

Also "under review".

Does anyone know when they are likely to start sending out II's?
Hahaha, f'ing SDN...

I don't think they start sending out interview invites until August :/

this is a really minor point, but in the secondary instructions, it says use double-space to designate paragraphs. I have no idea what that means ;;; can someone please explain this to me? Thanks!!

Instead of doing
this to differentiate paragraphs.

You should do

This instead.

Or at least that's how I interpreted it...

okay i see...as in, just have two spaces in between different paragraphs, right?
Thanks so much!! 🙂

How long were people "under review" before it got changed to "has been reviewed"?

I don't think it works that way, at least not this point.

I think the order is:
Under preliminary review and then EITHER "under review" or "has been reviewed" with the latter meaning a hold status. I think later on you can switch between "under review" and "has been reviewed" as they look at applications again that were held for later review.

I was just trying to figure out if it goes to "under review" first before being put on hold. I just got that status today, so wasn't sure if it was a good thing at this point, or if I could just expect to go on hold in a few days like my other schools hahah

This is incorrect. I had the initial "preliminary review" then "under review" on July 11th and went to "has been reviewed" on the 15th.

I submitted on the 11th and have been "under review" ever since

I haven't gotten an email or anything from Loyola... my app was verified/submitted like June 20th. Do they wait for MCAT scores before saying anything? Mine came out July 15th, so 6 days still nothing. Is this strange?

I got my MCAT score on July 1st, and got my secondary from Loyola on the 7th, so yours should be coming within the next few days 🙂

Applying here! Working on the secondary. Starting to wonder about being late!

Late? It's still July =O

I know! But i've been reading all these other posts about having already been reviewed and I haven't even turned in my secondary!

when did you add this school? I just added this weekend, no secondary yet :[

It was on my list when I submitted June 19th. I was verified July 9th and received the secondary July 14th. I've just been so swamped with secondaries i'm just now getting to this one. I complete them in the order i receive them. The fact that i'm nearing the 2 week rule and that others have been reviewed already is making me nervous.

calm down..they give you 4 weeks to finish it. Thats a recommended deadline..they understand their secondary is long. Just make sure the quality of your essays are good and clear...2 week rule is a good guideline but it doesn't substitute good quality essays

I see I see good luck! I was verified ~6/20 so I'm over the main hump of secondaries, which is why I started adding more schools haha.

  • Your file is under review with the Committee on Admissions. Please note: files can be in review until the end of the interview season in April.
Thank you all for your feedback on what the status might imply. Been about three days, hoping that this status does not change.

I just changed from preliminary review to currently under review. Submitted 7/18. How long are we typically under review until they place us on hold or ii?

They haven't started sending out ii's yet. Not til August probably.

Last years thread suggest early august as the first ii. Will we be put on hold before then or will some people just hang out in "under review" limbo until they get an ii

Quick question, I apologize if this has been asked before: is it all right if my MCAT score comes out after I submit my secondaries, and more importantly, AFTER the due date for my secondaries? Or does the file being 'complete and ready for review' entail that everything should be in by that date, letters, essays, scores, etc.?

I believe most schools start reviewing the apps after they receive everything. I would email the admission office to check with specific schools.

Ah okay. Thanks, I just did, figured i'd try SDN while I waited for their response lol

i submitted my secondary july 12th and my status still says under preliminary review. is that bad? sounds like people that submitted around that time already has under review or has been reviewed statuses

I am a second year applicant. Am I still considered a re-applicant to Loyola if I didn't send the secondary to this school last year (I sent the primary though)?

Anybody else get everything in and then have the status page still read: incomplete (missing letters)?

My letters were the last thing to arrive so this kind of makes sense, but they were marked as received by Loyola 11 days ago?

Call them. My secondary showed my letters received but was still incomplete, I called and they said it was some kind of system error and they fixed it and I became complete.

Thanks so much, nailed it juliuspepperwood, it's all complete and they said it would go to review in a couple of days.

Random question kind of related to this, but does anyone else not have a date in the Primary Received box? Mine is blank, but the others have dates.

I have a date for all the boxes. Not sure what it means to not have one, but you are under review correct? That means they received it I would think! Sorry if this is not very helpful haha
