2014-2015 Loyola University Chicago (Stritch) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Never went on hold that i know of. I can't remember the last time i checked but it was some time in late september or early october that i stopped as it was never changing from under review. I kept seeing posts of II's from those who were complete after me so i just counted myself out and stopped checking. I didn't ask...it didn't seem like the thing to do since i got the impression she wasn't happy about it. Just checked the portal and it says congrats you have been selected to interview. I have no way of telling how long it's been that way.

I've been under review since sometime in late July or maybe early August. Got a call today from admissions, the lady was polite but clearly agitated. Apparently they sent me an interview invite a while back and have been emailing me since i hadn't responded to it. She wanted to know why i haven't responded to any of their emails. I've checked everywhere and can't find anything from them. Not even a complete email. If you've been under review for a while shoot them an email or maybe give them a call. Something is going on... apparently i'm not the only one this has happened to either.

Edit: exercise some serious restraint here... I'm thinking only those who have been under review since JULY should potentially be concerned.
F**k...I've been under review since July. I sent them my first update yesterday, tho. I guess I'll check again...

Oh no!! I was just about to send an update too.... not sure what to do now. I never got a complete e-mail or anything either

Well in all fairness this probably could have been avoided if i would have checked the portal daily. And today it does say II, though i have no idea how long it's said that. If yours still says under review that update may prompt them to contact you so maybe hold off on a phone call.

Send in the update. They'll know you're still interested if you send an update and if there is something fishy going on they will contact you!

I wonder how much love I'll get from Loyola. I submitted my primaries pretty late in the game - I believe on like 10/9. Received secondary invite on 10/23, submitted 10/24. File reviewed by committee 3 days ago and now I think I'm on that hold status.

Got a missed call from the admissions coordinator (I think) for an II. Was complete on 8/2 and never received an email - unfortunately haven't been able to call back yet due to working an essentially 24 hour shift :/

If you don't mind, what does your portal say specifically?

Well i finally got that email to interview today. I called this morning to decline the invitation. This is a great school, but given the fact that I already have an acceptance at 2 great schools i can't justify taking an interview slot from an applicant that does not. I wish you all the best and hope one of you will soon be contacted to take that slot on Nov 19th, 20th, or 21st.

Thanks! When were you complete?

you are a good person

  • Your file has been reviewed by the Committee on Admissions. The review process is continuous from now until the conclusion of our interview season in April. If you are granted an interview, you will be contacted by phone and/or e-mail.
Is what my status changed to a few days ago. Looks like it took about 2 weeks total.

This is rough. No love from anyone 🙁

Just out of curiosity, has anyone complete mid August and later received an II? It seems like their screening process just reached early Aug submissions. If that's the case, Stritch isn't joking when they say they look at apps until the very end of the interview season. This is going to be a long ride!

When I interviewed, one of the deans told me they are reading apps all the way through February! This is bad news (in regards to patience and waiting time), but good news in the sense that their application cycle is FAR from over for those who have yet to receive an II!

Has anyone received a post-interview letter in the mail from Loyola (either accept, reject, or WL)? Not including anyone that received an acceptance phone call.

alternate list here

Did anyone send a post-interview Thank you email to your interviewers or the admissions staff (Judy & Matt) ?

Placed on alternate list today. A little bummed, but keeping the faith. Sure beats a rejection!

Does anyone know if the grading system is staying H/HP/P/F for the class of 2019?

Did anyone who was accepted get notifcation that your letter of intent was received?

So what exactly is the interview day like schedule-wise? Just the info session at the beginning of the day, two interviews, tour, and lunch? No other sessions, and you can leave whenever your last interview/tour is over?

You arrive and have breakfast. Then there's a brief information session where you also participate in an icebreaker with the admissions reps. Your interviews are back to back in the morning. Then you have lunch with the student that is going to give you the tour, as well as the students that tour with you. Around 1 or 2 o clock, depending on when your last interview was, the student takes you on a pretty thorough tour of the campus and hospital. When you're finished, you are told to go the computer lab by admissions and complete two surveys. The tour takes about an hour, so most students are done by 3 or 3:30. At that point you check out and are free to go.

I submitted thank you emails to every school I interviewed at within a day or two of the actual interview. Not sure how much of a difference it makes, but it's the professional thing to do in my opinion.

It will depend on who your interviews are with and when they are available. All interviews will include your two interviews (anywhere from 30 minutes to excess of an hour if there's time and you guys have stuff to talk about), some down time with other interviewees, a lunch/guided tour paid for by Loyola and with a current M1/M2 student, and an informal close survey and exit with part of admissions. Again, how that plays out will be largely dependent on who your interviews are with, however, and what times they can meet.

I actually called about this - they will not contact you regarding receipt of letter of intent, however, they said you should feel free to call admissions and check if you so choose.

II today morning around 8:30 AM.
Out of state applicant
Lizzy score ~72
Complete in mid August.
My file has been under review for about three months, and I have been very very very anxious.
So, keep your hope alive! It's coming!
Now, time to prepare for the interview! Still need to browse all the threads about the interview, but does anyone have advise/tips/etc. how to prepare for the interview?

Thank you!

Congrats! This was my best interview experience by far, and I am sure you will love it. The interviews themselves consist of 2 traditional 1-on-1 interviews with people affiliated with the school in some way (research/admissions/physicians/clergy etc...). They are open-file except they do NOT know your grades. However, my interviewer asked me about mine so I ended up telling him/her anyways. The interview group only consists of a few people (mine had 4 people total) so you will get a lot of personalized attention. They really make you feel like you aren't just "another applicant." You will also have a nice tour (they have a really nice gym nearby) and free lunch!

Personally, I read through some of the older school-specific threads for Loyola-- some of the med students leave really useful comments. I also read through SDN interview feedback and their website. They have a big emphasis on holistic care and treating the underserved. Be prepared to answer "Why Loyola." Good luck OP! Matt and Judy are both great. I personally did not meet the dean because of my interview times, but from what I heard she is awesome as well. Oh also, stay with a student host if you can, that really helped ease my nerves on interview day as well.

Thank you so much for the info! Do they have student host program that I can arrange after I set the interview schedule?

Of course! Yep, it should be in the info packet that they sent you. I had to email Matt and tell him I was interested, and he will get back to you if he can find you a host or not.

Congratulations on the II! Of the remaining schools I applied to, Stritch is definitely number one on my list. I think my mind would just implode if I was fortunate enough to be considered for an interview. Good luck with the prep!

We are here for you friends! Hang in there!

For what it's worth here's how I prepped for all my interviews (I wrote about all of this in my blog):

1. Reread your application (I printed the whole thing out). Know what you talked about and identify any red flags and be ready to talk about em.

2. Reread your secondary! You filled out dozens and you may not recall Loyola's specifically. Keep in mind, the interviewers have those essays in front of them.

3. Check out the website. What is the school about!? What is the MISSION STATEMENT and do you jive with that?

Good luck!

PS-- we created a CO 2019 fb group for you all... You don't have to be accepted to join.

So this is gonna be a super neurotic question and I usually don't do this so I apologize in advance....

I interviewed here at the end of October and completely forgot to send thank you notes/emails to my interviewers. I had 3 interviews in 7 days so it just slipped my mind during all the travel/stress. The adcom said they are meeting on Nov. 24th to decide our fates-- should I even bother shooting thank you emails at this point? I'm not sure what bearing they have at this school but I kinda just feel bad... I doubt it will even matter. </ramble>

Some people say never to bother with thank you notes.

Personally, I always send thank you notes.
Thus, if you are an individual that sends thank you notes: yes, send yours. Even if they have already submitted their evaluation, I'd still do it.

Still hoping to hear back from this school! Haven't heard anything since submitting the secondary. Hope my history as an undergrad will help me
